i recently bought the evga x58. very happy with it so far. on my mobo right now is an i7 920 and intel's stock cpu cooler. i'm interested in overclocking (but not in water cooling) so the first thing i want to do is upgrade the cpu fan. i was told good things about ZALMAN CNPS9900ALED, but there's reviews on newegg that if you have the evga x58, you have to modify the clamps or you risk damaging the board (don't like the sound of that). another problem: i have 3 x 2G corsair dominators right now, and will probably add 3 more sticks. as i'm sure you guys know it has a heat sink on it. i would like a cpu cooler that won't prevent the installation of my other dominators in slots 1/3/5. so i'd like a recommendation on a cpu cooler. i'm willing to spend whatever on it (they're pretty cheap anyways) if it'll give me the best performance and compatibility. thanks in advance

Although not the best cooler out there, the V8 does not have any issues with covering any of the mem slots, I have a 4.0 OC with one,and I am using all memory slots 12G, the NH-U12P-SE, the True and the megahelm cool better, but they are larger, I have a 4.3 OC with a NH-12P-SE, but only 6G of ram in that mechine.

No difference except the colour of them. If you have the 3 way or 4 way Classified the limited edition would fit with the colouring scheme. Why would I recommend the Titan Fenrir? Its cheaper and cools better compared to the V8 and other coolers in this price range. You will also have plenty of clearance for any memory kit. Take a look at online reviews and decide. I recommend it as I have put this beast in many of my clients computers and have ran many bench marks compared to the V8, OCZ Vendetta 2 and a few others. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10058/cpu-ttn-04/Titan_Limited_Edition_Fenrir_Universal_CPU_Cooler_Socket_LGA_775_LGA1156_LGA1366_and_K8_AM2_AM2_AM3_-_TTC-NK85TZCS_RB.html?tl=g40c14s757 now that thing looks promising. i will research this one further. an extra point for the most epic name ever for a cpu cooler

ok i bought the titan fenrir and installed it. good news and bad news: good news: i haven't overclocked anything yet. before with the intel stock cooler my mobo was showing cpu temp between 34-36. now my mobo is telling me that my cpu is at 26. this is the first computer i've built from scratch and definitely the first after market cpu cooler i've ever used so i don't have much experience...but 10 degrees seems like a lot. either the intel stock was REALLY crappy or the fenrir is as good as the reviews i've read bad news: because of the stack of metal fins on the mobo to the left of the cpu (not sure what it's called) i couldn't install this with the label reading left to right. it is now installed tall-ways, and in such a way the fan is to the right side of the fenrir. this makes it impossible for me to install any additional ram sticks, much less the dominators. i think i'm still going to keep this cooler though ^.^ thanks your input fellas (especially smoothie) p.s.: for future reference, can someone recommend me a cooler that actually fits evga x58 that will clear the head space for corsair dominator in dimm slot 1?

I'll just throw this one out there for you to consider: Corsair H50: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...&Tpk=corsair%20h50 Corsair product page (watch the videos): http://www.corsair.com/products/h50/default.aspx I personally own one (installed on one of my four rigs) and I am very surprised at how well it performs. Not trying to start a war on air vs. corsair, but it holds its own with many top air coolers and takes up a lot less space. Good luck with your search and please show some pictures when you get her all done.

i know it might be hard to tell from this angle, but the plastic frame around the fan goes partially over dimm slot 1.

i recommend the cogage true spirit for the x58. you will be able to install to face the rear exhaust and it will clear the first ram spot with enough room to put a 25m fan for sure (my setup) with what looks like enough room for a 38m fan if you want between the cooler and ram. it will barely clear the northbridge cooler but it will clear it with a few mm to spare. this cooler dropped my idle temps 36c to 22c (14c difference) compared to the stock. load temps went from 79c to 54c (25c difference). those are core 1 temps which always seem to be the highest out of the 4. ambeit room temp of 68-70F. check out benchmarkreviews.com for a slew of cooler reviews. just click cooling on the left nav panel. the most popular cooler is prob the prolmitech mega (prob didn't spell that right) however the true beats them all in benchmarkreviews tests (yet barely against the mega) and the true will allow you to add a push pull fan setup with room to spare so you don't have to worry about those ram slots. some of my info: evga x58 760 i7 920 (stock settings atm) cogage true spirit heatsink + 120x120x25 fan between the cooler and ram pushing through hs to rear (just ordered cooljaj everflow 120 pwm fans x 2 for a push pull setup but haven't gotten them yet which i'm waiting for to begin overclocking) my case is the raven v2 which rotates the mobo 90 degrees so all the exhaust exits the top (3x180m intake 1x120m exhaust).

I have the Pro Mega and I know for sure you won't be able to fit 12gb with the Corsair Dominator, that is why I went with the Mushkin Enhanced. I initially had the CM Hyper 212 Plus and you can actually adjust the height of the fans to where you can have enough room to place a stick in DIMM Slot 2. But doing so, you will need to make sure you have enough room in your case. If I was going to stick with the Dominator, I would of gotten the H50.
