LUL people bought 3080's for nearly $1,000 more than we bought our 3090's for.... smh... that's on them for being desperate tbh.
Scalping wouldn't be a thing if idiots didn't pay 2x the amount just because they don't want to wait.

i just saw someone post a picture on offerup with like 20 msi gaming trio 3080's. Sometimes on amazon they forget to put a quantity limit and these people hit big. This seller seems like they got connections though.

I refuse to pay a scalper a price, Id rather go without but unfortunately there is always someone else out there willing to pay the premiums. I would laugh if supply suddenly caught up and they were stuck with a bunch of cards they couldn't move.

Totally agree... I understand prices rising when demand is high and supply is low. But not giving in to individuals just trying to profit of someone else

There should definitely be legislation be put in place against scalpers and people who hoard and scalp items. It's similar to people who were hoarding and scalping masks and gloves during the beginning of the pandemic. Obviously GPUs and medical items are not the same but still, it's outrageous how capitalism creates this system.

That's really insane. I think that Amazon, Best Buy, and others should do something to stop scalpers. I have been for months trying to buy a GPU for my new computers, and it has become an impossible task.

It's all supply and demand. When anyone (including companies) can charge a premium for stuff, they will. Only until the shortage of semiconductors is resolved will things go back to somewhat normal.

Found this little gem on EBAY today. A store that is scalping EVGA cards . Just recently shows (75x) 3060's & (15) 3080's .

- $ 888.88 for a 3060

Despicable . How has this 'small' store gotten over 100 cards recently to scalp ??   
I think you can also claim to be a business. It'd be fairly easy to get a business / license tag in most cities assuming you do the right paperwork (hell in some states / cities, a tag can cost less than $150), and from there you can contact EVGA as a "legitimate company" wanting to buy some "inventory". I doubt EVGA would double check if they're legit or not, and even then, they can easily claim that they are since they got the tag.

I find these kinds of situations are both saddening and educational.
Saddening because they exacerbate the shortage by pulling cards away from retailers.
At the same time, it shows the level of sophistication that is often behind scalping rings. While you and I cannot get a hold of a single card, others will intercept distribution networks, make deals with certified distributors, and of course utilize botting services to acquire vast quantities. This result is evident in the opening post.
What is funny is they morally justify this behavior as a “service” which enables people to purchase cards that would otherwise be too hard to find. Of course the ridiculous markup is their “service fee.” I understand the economics behind it, but I still consider it morally facetious.
