I'm glad I joined the list late. I still have time to think.
When I build a computer I try to future proof it as much as I can afford. I don't swap out motherboards and processors every year or two.

That back I/O panel has no future proofing at all. I was shocked to see a PS2 port. Ethernet 1Gb instead of 2.5Gb. No Thunderbolt ports. And only a handful of USB.

I was trying not to rain on anybody's parade here but now I see I'm not alone.

I am really looking forward to this boards release. I got a 10850K since it’s about equal in performance out of the box as a 10900K and a lot cheaper and easier to find. Overclocking they are virtually identical and sure in some synthetic tests you would notice the 100mhz but really isn’t even single frame in most games.

This is the EVGA forum, so I think we all have a lean towards using them, but it's also just PART of the decision for most of us.  The PS2 port on it's own doesn't bother me as I've seen that here and there, for me it really is the lack of rear panel IO.  Honestly this is the way I have felt about most EVGA boards in the last several years, they usually are a bit behind the other offerings in their price class on rear panel IO.

For me the clock to decide on whether to use the Z590 FTW is ticking.  My love for EVGA Customer Support makes it hard to pass up, but the first time I couldn't plug something in because I was out of USB ports would make me pretty angry.

The IO isn't that bad.. how many USB ports do you need? The PS2 port had me raise an eyebrow, but otherwise it's not too bad:
2 x USB 3.2 Gen1
4 x USB 3.2 Gen2
1 x USB 3.2 Gen2x2
..and of course you have more internally to run to your case front ports.
The Z590 Dark will have much more with apparently over a dozen USB options and 2 x 2.5Gbps NICs.

This is my current IO on my Formula and I'm not sure why I should give up the 10G port, the 2.5G port (over the 1g) and the USB ports.
Additionally, this is a Z490 board with a much lower DMI bandwith then is allowed on Z590 IO.  Compound that with the lack of the extra internal USB 2.0 header (for users running an AIO and an RGB hub) that the Formula offers (along with many other boards) and it starts to feel like the board doesn't check all the boxes of the price category it is sitting in.

Is it a good board?  Yes.  EVGA doesn't make bad stuff.
Is it a viable option?  Yes.
Is is enough to compete and beat the balance of the $400-$450 boards on features and IO?  IMO, not really.

For those that opt for this board, I think you'll be very happy with the choice, for those that don't, I think you'll be just as happy.

It doesn't say over a dozen on the back. So if you include the on-board headers, that could be 10 on the back...unless you include the USB to SPI BIOS flash header...then it would be 9 options on the back.

Looking at the release pictures vs. the rendering, the only disappointment I had (which was the littlest of nit-picks lol) was that they swapped out the hex-screws for phillips. The hex-screws looked way nicer, and I have a sweet set of Wiha ball-end hex wrenches exactly for this sort of thing. I know more people have a little phillips screwdriver around, but I thought they looked nicer before...especially the two on the silver EVGA badge.

It is sometimes interesting to me to find out what other people look for in their computer parts. I am not judging anybody at all, you have every right to want what you do out of it if you're considering purchasing it, I just actually enjoy hearing other perspectives (I guess I could say that about most of life lol). I work at a company that does a lot of system integration and we have hubs everywhere. I can tell you so much about hubs that I wish I didn't know, regarding hops, topologies, cable lengths, and which brands I've had luck with just off the top of my head that if I needed a new hub at home I could have one ordered and on the way in a minute or two. That is in no way, shape, or form a brag, it is just an outcome of my job and apparently shapes my perspective as I saw 7 ports and went "plenty!" and moved on to other specs lol. Sorry for the over-share, I guess I just felt like giving a different perspective.

What keeps me here thinking about and analyzing this board is that I know it will be quality.
EVGA makes good quality stuff and treats it's customers well.
Last time I built a computer EVGA's version wasn't close to being ready and I vowed to try again next time. I loved the EVGA graphics card I got and was extremely happy with that.

EDIT: Just did a quick survey of the Asus Maximus forum. Looks like those boards could be buggy. I guess I'm waiting patiently for my turn at the Z590 FTW.
The bugs that stood out were related to the ethernet and some usb ports. Just the things I mentioned above.

I've been keeping track of those who posted their queue notify time in the forum pages. You can find the latest update here: https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3286026

I could be wrong, but it looks like these are exclusive to Evga.com. That means the only way to get one is to notify for the queue by clicking the "notify me" button on the product page. Every time they get stock, they send emails to the next people on the list. It works the same way as the 30-series card notification queues. They don't have enough to have them show up "in stock" somewhere.

This, exactly.

I would be surprised to see these at 'retail' anytime soon. They've a fair number of people in the queue at present for the FTW board, and from all appearances will have a banner day for signups for the Dark board when the notify page goes live for that one.

You're in for a bit of a wait.. AMD and Intel aren't expected to launch DDR5 supporting ranges until some time in 2022, even though ddr5 is expected Q3 2021.

Hopefully compatible mono's start releasing. It might not be worth the attempt of future proofing.

It is possible the Alder Lake chipsets support DDR5, and some might be out at the end of this year. The CPUs supposedly support both DDR4 and DDR5 so it will be up to the motherboard manufacturers. Not sure when EVGA will have AL motherboards though, let alone whether they go for DDR4 or DDR5. Likely they'd go bleeding edge and later than everyone else.
