hi , i am the very NOOB guy that needs help :)
as the ^topic say , can i have the 2080 Ti K|NGP|N + EVGA NU Audio + 2 M.2 at full speed?

i read somewhere in this forum that if you have 2 m.2 you will not be able to use PCIE 3
then i went to EVGA NU Audio page and it say Interface PCIe x1 Gen2

i really dont understand these pcie 16x8 x4

so in short can i have those gang together at full speed ?

thank you very much

Same question as the OP, 9900K, 2080 Ti KPE, Samsung M.2, Corsair 1600i PSU.

Thank you!

The manual for the Z390 Dark https://www.evga.com/support/manuals/files/131-CS-E399.pdf gives a break down on M.2 / U.2 slots on Page 27.
Because all of the CPUs utilized on the Z390 platform are limited to 16 lanes, you will not be able to run the RTX 2080 Ti KP at a full 16X speed while using either one or both M.2 drives in each 110mm slot and the PCIe slot #3 will be disabled if you use the bottom M.2 slot.

I will say though that if you do decide to go with both M.2 SSDs and the Kingpin card, although reduced to 8 lanes, benchmarks will hardly show a drop in performance versus using the full 16 lanes for the graphics card. Since the card alone uses 16 lanes, using any other PCIe device in the system will cause the card to operate at 8X

1st its you thank you
2nd what i understand from your replay is i got 2 options TO RUN THE KINGPIN AT 16X:
1* is to have the kingpin with 2 m.2
2* or to have the kingpin with 1 m.2 and the nu audio

did i get it right? or there is no way on earth to run the kingpin at 16x with more than 2 pcie slots in use  including the gpu
in short to have gpu at 16x , then you have 1 more pcie slot to put whatever which is (no god please no)

Abe_T82,

If you want to run the graphics card at its full 16X speed you cannot have any other PCIe device installed not even a 1X card like the Nu Audio because that is taking 1 lane out of the CPU.

You have 3 options:

1. use the RTX 2080 Ti KP on its own to get the full 16X speed

2. RTX 2080 ti KP (8X) + dual M.2 SSD (4x + 4X = 8 lanes) = both combined would use all 16 lanes

3. RTX 2080 Ti KP (8x) + Nu Audio card (1X) and would basically leave 7 lanes available.

hope this helps.

It's not a huge different from 16x to 8x.  It would matter say if you were running 4K (x3) in surround for gaming but other than that, no biggie.

Do you also have this? Nu Audio card
12.81 GB/s Cool  https://www.3dmark.com/compare/pcie/17950/pcie/15196/pcie/15048
This really only shows the difference between GEN 1 2 3 and soon 4.
What is shown in the NVIDIA Control Panel under System Information? X16 or X8?
I am this Close to Getting that Dark, this Close.... I have the Intel Core i9-9900KF Processor and Memory on the way now.
The 9900KF has no Graphics so I wonder if this helps.
Also it is comparing the Bandwidth between the CPU and PCIe Slot not the GPU is a since but what GPU is that?
The MB is Out of Stock ATM

just like the i9 9900k

Using the following with Z390 Dark & 9900KF:
x16 from CPU - 2080ti KP
x4 from Z390 PCH - 970 Pro 1GB (TOP)
x4 from Z390 PCH - 970 Evo Plus 1GB (BOTTOM)

Cannot use any slot or U.2
(per page 26-27 from manual)

We'll see what happens with Zen 2 or Intel's HEDT follow-up.  9900x or 9920x doesn't look that good anymore.

Yes, NVMe.  Hope Intel responds to AMD with HEDT competition.

Using the following with Z390 Dark & 9900KF:
x16 from CPU - 2080ti KP
x4 from Z390 PCH - 970 Pro 1GB (TOP)
x4 from Z390 PCH - 970 Evo Plus 1GB (BOTTOM)

Cannot use any slot or U.2
(per page 26-27 from manual)

We'll see what happens with Zen 2 or Intel's HEDT follow-up.  9900x or 9920x doesn't look that good anymore.

i really need to understand this !!
i really don't understand that . intel says its only Lanes 16 yes?
so this means these m.2 are not pcie ? so they r not at their max speed?
so what is the point in having m.2 this way ? only for cable management ?

i really don't understand that . intel says its only Lanes 16 yes? Correct as far as the PCIe Lanes on the PCIe Slots all but PE3 that is.
so this means these m.2 are not pcie ? so they r not at their max speed? NO They are Max Speed X4 from the PCH Chipset.

You also have PCIe Lanes from the Intel ® Z390 and PCH Chipset.
The EVGA Z390 DARK Motherboard with the Intel ® Z390 and PCH Chipset.
Support Manual for EVGA Z390 Dark (131-CS-E399) Page 27

USB 2.0 Ports:
4x from Intel
® Z390 PCH – 4x internal via 2 FP headers
Supports transfer speeds up to 480 Mbps with full backwards compatibility

USB 3.1 Gen1 Ports:
4x from Intel
® Z390 PCH – 2x external, 2x internal via 1 FP headers
Supports transfer speeds up to 5Gbps with full backwards compatibility

SATA Ports:
Intel
® Z390 PCH Controller
6x SATA 3/6 Gbit/s (600 MB/s) data transfer rate
- Support for RAID0, RAID1, RAID5, AND RAID10
- Supports hot plug

PCI Express Expansion Slots:
1x PCIe x4 slot (via PCH)
*LANES PER SLOT CAN VARY BASED ON DEVICES INSTALLED. PLEASE SEE PAGE 27 FOR LANE BREAKDOWN.

2. Intel ® Z390 PCH (Southbridge)
The Platform Controller Hub (PCH) handles the role that was previously held by the South Bridge. The PCH allocates bandwidth to smaller PCIe slots, M.2, USB, audio, etc. In simplified terms, the PCH works as a hub for peripherals that are less bandwidth-intensive.

9. Intel ® SATA 6Gbit/s Ports
The Intel ® Z390 PCH has a 6-port SATA 3/6 Gbit/s controller (See Page 48 for specifics on the connectors). This controller is backwards compatible with SATA and SATA II devices, and supports SSDs, HDDs and various types of optical devices (CDROM, DVDROM, BD-ROM, etc). The controller also supports NCQ, TRIM, hot swap capability (provided the proper HDD/SSD bays/racks are installed), and RAID levels 0/1/5/10.

16. PCIe Slot x4*
PCIe x4 slot PE3 uses up to 4 Gen 3 lanes from the PCH. This slot is typically used for sound cards, WiFi, USB, LAN or other peripheral cards.
Using this slot will have no effect on the bandwidth or throughput of the x16 slots used for SLI because this slot uses only PCH bandwidth.

PCIe Slot Breakdown
PCIe Lane Distribution (All Socket 1151 processors are 16 lanes.)
PE1 – x16 (Gen3, x16 lanes from CPU, x8 shared with PE2)
PE2 – x8 (Gen3, x8 lanes from CPU, x4 shared with PE4) Cannot Be Used with 2 GPUs
PE3 – x4 (Gen3, x4 lanes from PCH)
PE4 – x4 (Gen3, x4 lanes from CPU, shares 4 of PE2’s 8 lanes)

M.2 / U.2 Slot Breakdown
M.2 Lane Distribution
M.2 Key-M (110mm, Top, PM1) – x4 from Z390 PCH
M.2 Enable/Disable is set within the BIOS
This M.2 Key-M slot shares lanes with the U.2 port. Installing an M.2 device will disable U.2 port PU1.
M.2 Key-M (110mm, Bottom, PM2) – x4 from Z390 PCH
M.2 Enable/Disable is set within the BIOS
This M.2 Key-M slot shares lanes with PE3. Installing an M.2 device will disable PCIe slot PE3.
M.2 Key-E (32mm) – x1 from Z390 PCH
M.2 Enable/Disable is set within the BIOS

U.2 Lane Distribution
U.2 (PU1) – x4 from Z390 PCH
U.2 Enable/Disable is set within the BIOS
This U.2 port shares lanes with the M.2 Key-M slot PM1. Installing a U.2 device will disable PM1.

Hope this Helps a Little.
Note that the X299 Chipset (EVGA) has No PCH PCIe Lane Support.

so there is actually a way to have 2 m.2 at full speed with gpu at x16 !!
so why is that guy told me there is no way? i said in the very beginning that i am a NOOB , i didnt build a pc for ages
if i understand what the manual says then why would i ask , i hardly understand that pcie thing now i need to study the PCH

Correct, One GPU @ x16 or Two GPUs @ x8 Each
Maybe because you added the Nu Audio PCIe Device. "using any other PCIe device in the system will cause the card to operate at 8X" and oversight & Overworked.
Remember using 2 M.2 *110 this disables PE3 that is also controlled by the PCH Chipset.
If you used only the PE3 for the NU Audio Card then you cannot use the two M.2 110 Ports.
From above "This M.2 Key-M slot shares lanes with PE3. Installing an M.2 device will disable PCIe slot PE3."

You need x8 on each Graphics Card to run SLI.

PE1 – x16(Gen3, x16 CPU With a Card in PE4 this Drops to x8
PE2 – x8 (Gen3, x8  CPU (This is why you cannot use this PCIe Slot with 2 GPUs or 1 GPU and the NU Audio Card in Slot PE4)
PE3 – x4 (Gen3, x4 PCH
PE4 – x4 (Gen3, x4 CPU Has 4 and uses 4 from PE2 Making it x8

Part of know when you buy a Motherboard you need to see if it has Shared PCIe Slots that in turn share PCIe Lanes, Not All Motherboards Share.

There is a lot to keep up with and no one can keep up with it all. Also why we have this Forum, Members Helping Members.
I am going to do the same as you with this Motherboard less the EVGA NU Audio Card.

The chipset + Manufacturer implemented MB features can vary a lot.  It can get confusing.  Look at Asus' lineup of MBs.  For the 9900 & Dark, I'd rather have (2) M.2 than ext audio card.  Unless you have a really good pair of headphones or 2ch speakers w/amp, it may be diminishing returns for the ext NU card vs built-in audio.

Supposedly, the Z390 Dark board has an upgraded analog output stage(NU audio front panel) that improves line/headphones output.  This is the reason for the stacked audio drivers.  Never loaded the NU drivers since no one got back to me on the NU driver update question, but headphones using the CL control panel is decent.  I have inexpensive Grado SR80 to more expensive Sennheiser and AKGs.  I like to use my Sony 1000M3 noise canceling since it cuts down all the AC and fan noise when I'm on the computer.  This board is meant for extreme overclocking and performance over creature comforts.

Well your Z390 Dark already has a Nu Audio chip integrated into it so that would not affect the available PCIe lanes.

Will I run into any problems running my RTX 2080 and my EVGA NU card with 3 sata SSD?

Am I misunderstanding

RTX 2080 and EVGA NU will run fine and 3 SSD since the SSD don't take up PCi E Lanes correct so I will be fine above
