Hi,

I updated my bios, and restarted and now I'm just getting a black screen with the following numbers cycling through on the motherboard: 04 19 61 66

I think I may have flashed an older version of the firmware by mistake and that's probably the cause of my woes.

I've tried resetting the cmos, but no luck. Assuming that I have no other options at this stage but wanted to post a question here in case anyone else can help?

You might try creating a bootable USB Flash Drive with Rufus and use the FreeDOS (Boot selection menu) file system..Then put the contents of the E095_flashtool_206 (FPTDOS, FPTWIN, 1E095206.bin, update.bat) that's in the 2.06 BIOS flash package for the X99 Micro2 on the Flash Drive..Then type in and run update.bat if/when your Flash Drive boots your box into DOS and try to flash it in a DOS environment..Press Enter after typing in update.bat or just plain update.

Disconnect all other drives so that the Flash Drive is seen as the only possible Boot Device.

If no joy, time for another BIOS chip..Good luck.

Would that work even if the bios was stuck in a boot loop? I'd certainly be willing be try.

Hard to tell..Nothing to lose at this point anyway..I would try it..If no joy, a new BIOS chip will be needed.

I'd try a cold BIOS reset first: Unplug the PSU, take the CMOS battery out. Then hold the CMOS reset button for 30 seconds. Leave the CMOS battery out for 15 minutes. Reinstall the battery and see if the system will now boot.

Thanks for all the helpful and informative comments, I've learnt quite a bit just from this post!

I've decided to take opportunity to upgrade the motherboard and cpu and i'll use the old motherboard / cpu to build another pc at a later date

Something else you could try is AMI BIOS Recovery from the Boot Block sector and see if that works..More links below..I don't know how dated the information is though or if it's applicable/works anymore..You can substitute a USB Flash Drive for a Floppy Drive.

If it comes down to it, a BIOS chip from EVGA shouldn't cost much..There's some on eBay for under $15.

You can also hot-swap a BIOS chip into another running EVGA X99 and flash it in Windows.

Good luck.

How to recover the BIOS
