Hi,

There seems to be a thunderbolt header on this motherboard - I've looked in the manual part 1 and there is a thunderbolt header - GPIO.
Is this EVGA board flexible with which thunderbolt add in card can be used? - eg Asus thunderbolt 3 card / Gigabyte TH3 card

Is the BIOS flexible enough to go through the CPU lanes or is it fixed to the X4 slot through the PCH (chipset)__?

If a MOD or someone who knows about this steps forward it would be helpful - Thanks

Hello,

Thunderbolt Add in cards are possible to use with this board. We do not have a list of of confirmed tested cards unfortunately for this board
but you are able to use them. As for the second question, this would be fixed through the PCH ( Chipset).
Not able to change this via BIOS unfortunately.

Hi, that was quick.

I don't have any experience with EVGA boards - (yet)_another query on this board is - there looks like there is 5 x PCI-e GEN 3 slots & 1 x PCI-e GEN 2 slot (X4_PCH)

Regarding the 5 x PCI-e slots (GEN 3)__which basically means they go through the CPU ___I read the manual___and 4 x (x8) slots can be used which means 1 of the slots would not be able to be used.

>>slot 1 & another can work @ x16 or two slots @ x8 x8
>>> three other gen 3 slots work at x8

>>> I ask is it possible to use
slot #1 for gpu @ x16 or x8

then use all the other 4 x PCI-e gen 3 slots @ x4?

If 40 lane CPU is used there would be enough lanes but it would come down to the PCB implementation for the other 3 slots @ x8 and back to the 4 x x8 stipulation in the product brief which would suggest 1 x GPU & the other 4 slots gen 3 @ x4 would not work --- But I ask just in case as it's worth asking

OK thanks for the feedback - This tells me then that it is thunderbolt 2 as the x4 slot on this board is PCI-e GEN 2 -- with 4 lanes of gen 2 PCI-e this equates to UPTO 20 Gb/s which is TH2 and one of my Asus Thunderbolt 2 cards may work

Hello,

Unfortunately there is no way to change the PCIE lanes to x8 or to x4 through the BIOS on this board.
You would be correct that you would be limited and there would be one PCIE slot that would not be able to use.
Unfortunately what you are asking would just not be possible with this board. I do apologize :(

There is no need to apologize -  - It's just how the board is - thought I'd ask though -- It probably could have been made to work that way if the PCB was designed like that - But it does get very good reviews.

OK,
Back to the thunderbolt again - Is there an option in the BIOS for the thunderbolt? - Any options at all? - From other boards I've looked at / worked with at the very least there should be an option is enable thunderbolt in the BIOS.
Every board maker is different but one or two have other options as well like to force power to the thunderbolt controller - How basic / extensive / non existent are the thunderbolt options in the BIOS for Evga X99 Classified?
I don't have a board just to check!

When thunderbolt arrived on the scene it was a bit of a mess but I did read that motherboard makers needed to adhere to strict I Intel guidelines in order to receive "Intel Thunderbolt Certified Status".

I've not seen a thunderbolt driver on the Evga web page for X99 Classified but it is an Intel driver and I do have most versions backed up for TH2 & TH3 !

Anyway I'll try not to go on so much -  - But are there any options in the BIOS for thunderbolt?

>>>>It would be a great board even without thunderbolt - But ascertaining this is good!

There is no option in the BIOS to "enable" thunderbolt and we have only ever confirmed compatibility with one thunderbolt card which is no longer available.

The following forum post covers the topic of compatibility with thunderbolt  cards and this X99 Classified.

Are you on the latest BIOS?

I'm actually going off information found in BIOS version 2.04 for this board.
