Simple question is the Dark worth the money, I had a EVGA Classified X79 and it was broke from day 1.  Everything else I own in my pc is EVGA just wondering if this is worth the purchase or not.
Thanks for the input

Yes the Dark is a Nice Motherboard, I got a X79 Classified Motherboard this passed week and while one of the Memory Slots is not working the rest is and now with 2.03 Bios it looks the same as the Dark. I have had my Dark up to 4.8 GHz with the i7-4960X with two Titans and is a Power House of a Gamming Computer. While I run at 4.4 GHz as my standard CPU speed 32 GB of memory @ 2133 it is Great. Yes it us worth the money and for $150 you should up grade your X79 Classified to the X79 Dark. See http://www.evga.com/articles/00760/

Based on your sig you have a RIVE, so what gives to want to go DARK ?
From my part with 2.07 overclocking and usage of the DARK has been a breeze. 2.02 was good, 2.04-2.05 had it's issues. 2.07 is great so far. K-Boost disabled and clock 4.2GHz v1.25 on my old 3960X without much sweat. Vdrop 80% which is fantastic. 4.4GHz haven't tested much yet v1.35 was a little too high. Aiming for some lower voltage.

manojks, You have your "Vdrop 80% which is fantastic" set in the Bios to 80%?

Having updated to V2.07 - all looks fine as before... using 1.3V for 4.4Ghz, disabling VDroop and Enabling K-Boost (without K-Boost just crashes - whatever it does it is awesome ^^). Also XMP Profiles seems fixed now for my Corsair Dominator Platinum - nice!

The only thing left is, I NEEEEEED support to boot from a different harddisk via the quick boot menu. Please please add this feature as it was present on your previous X58... its really cumbersome to always enter bios just to boot from a different harddisk :(

Otherwise nice work!

Kind regads,
LD

Ok I remember that post. It just sounded very cryptic and not detailed or clear.

I need to find a way to run with Kboost disabled. I'm worried about the spike.

Jacob said there should be no adverse effect to the CPU with having it enabled and that it is a feature to improve overclocking with the VRM circuitry. Either way I wouldn't worry about it so much, it's not like anyone is not going to just RMA the chip to Intel if by some freak chance it does get killed. You can even buy Intel's overclocking protection plan if it makes you feel better and then just shoot the volts to the sucker lol.

I can only confirm this:

- with Corsair 4 x 8GB 2400MHz system doesn't boot into BIOS or Windows
- with Kingstone 4 x 8GB 2400MHz system works ok with default settings or with XMP 2 2133MHz... with XMP 1 system doesn't go to BIOS, it's just restarting over and over again after 4-5 seconds.

I get the restart loop when trying the rated 2666 CL11 (XMP) for my RAM (125MHz Bclk and 2133 memory multiplier). 2400@100MHz Bclk do work though.

VDroop = Voltage droop , if DISABLE it voltage will rise in heavy load durring stres bench/test etc...this value varies from your voltage in bios set to almost +100mv(0.1v) depends how heavy stress test is( prime95/ibt/linX /intel burntest etc..) so the real voltage aplied to cpu with this option DISABLE is NOT the value that you in bios set , this is only idle value durring os load or something sligty load.
here video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toRDRgT9AUU&feature=youtu.be

VDroop = intel specs = Enabled , this function will droop the voltage in heavy load , you set in bios a vcore  value , boot ~ with that value but in load voltage will droop 40-50mv ( 0,04-0,05v)
VDroop = 60% - 80% this function enabled vdroop in voltage precentage ...i used always VDroop -80% because the value idle/load is the most accurate with reality on this board ...not perfecty because evga bios team haven´t implement vdroop-100% /120% to calibrated the pwm better ..all voltages onthis board is very unaccuracy not only vcore

Thank you!

To the guys working on the BIOS:

I've been using this memory: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A771ZOQ/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and I cannot boot with the first XMP profile for 2400MHz and have not been able to since the first bios. The XMP profile is not being read correctly for this memory (at least for profile 1). Profile 2 at 2133MHz boots just fine since the first bios.

I have exactly the same memory as backup for my Corsair (not working at all with this board) and indeed you are right... not working on XMP1...only on 2.

Re: EVGA X79 Dark - BIOS 2.07 Released 2013/10/20 22:29:52 (permalink)
Just got done with some OC testing and man I have to say this is a solid bios.

I was able to get:

1) 4.75GHz (Mult = 47, BCLK = 101) with PLL enabled, Kboost enabled, Vcore = 1.35v, and Vdroop disabled. Resulted in voltages as high as 1.45 shown on ELeet so this is a bench only setting for me.
2) 4.7GHz (Mult = 47) with with PLL enabled, Kboost enabled, Vcore = 1.30v, and Vdroop disabled. Resulted in voltages as high as 1.399 shown on ELeet and I'm comfortable using this as a 24/7, but prefer lower volts.
3) 4.5GHz (Mult = 45) with with PLL enabled, Kboost enabled, Vcore = 1.265v, and Vdroop at 80. Resulted in voltages as high as 1.290 (on idle mind you, load is 1.265) shown on ELeet and I'm very comfortable using this as a 24/7.

Unable to get 4.8 with a 48 multiplier IBTv2 (Intel Burn Test) stable, but boots fine.

Disabling Kboost on the first two result in the same error that dustingg mentioned (WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR). But very happy #3 works without it. Maybe Kboost is necessary for high voltages? I'm really impressed with my minimum voltages for my #3 though. Seems too low... But if it's accurate, I'm pretty happy.

Ended up getting the same error for #3 from a cold boot the next day with Kboost disabled. Booted up just fine with it enabled so I guess I'll have to live with it.

---

Biggest thing left is more options for Vdroop and having the ability to have offset voltages and fix the XMP profiles for the Kingston HyperX Beast 2400, but right now I am extremely happy with this board. Exponentially happier than I was with 2.05.

Props to EVGA.

Just to clarify: if I leave K Boost at its default, and have not OCd the CPU, then it has no effect - my CPU isn't getting spiked?

Thanks!

if you leave all default( multi/bclk) , Kboost-enabled(auto) ..cpu isn´t spiked , even if you set for example vcore to 1.5v.
the spike´s have effect  only if rise the multiplier over 41x (but bclk default=100),or rise the bclk ( exemple: 39x105 get spiked) , or both :D

I have 4 x 4GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866MHz ram [link] and XMP1 is now giving correct timings, voltage etc. for this ram with BIOS 2.07. Thank you. I have not started clocking the CPU back up since loading the new BIOS.. will advise.

K-Boost only takes affect when above 41X multiplier.

Re: EVGA X79 Dark - BIOS 2.07 Released 2013/10/21 21:53:16 (permalink)
Ugh my overclock is not stable at all. I get memory errors on Memtest with either XMP profile. That is why I'm not getting any stability.

Even if I don't overclock and just set XMP profile 1 or 2, I fail both with errors.

If I leave everything default then it passes every test.

My memory is: G.Skill F3-2400C9Q-16GTXD

I don't know if it's the CPU (not good enough to support 2400 speed) or X79 Dark that is not working correctly with my memory.

How can I figure out which one it is?

EDIT #1: Memtest passed with all default settings. That means memory running at 1333.

Edit #2: Memtest passed in Manual settings of 2133 and 2400. No overclocking. Will not pass in XMP on 2.07 BIOS.

My system hangs sometimes when I'm in BIOS, even if I do nothing... just scrolling through the menus. Otherwise achieved 4.6GHz, 1.4V stable (over 12h prime and linx) and 4.7GHz also stable, but with unreasonable voltage over 1.5V

XMP wrong on my Corsair Vengeance Red 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 1866 MHZ (PC3 15000) Desktop Memory (CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10R).  Came up @ 1600mhz, manually set to 1867Mhz.  Also the defaulted clock on my 4930 was 3.9Ghz, manually set to 3.4Ghz then rebooted and then went back to auto and it was autoed @ 3.4Ghz.

Heatware: Trelor - I primarily use eBay which is attached to my heatware.

I am using the G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 16GB and have not yet found a way to set them past 1333... Kind of frustrating actually. Does not matter what I do with the CPU (Including stock bois settings) they simply will not run at the XMP settings...

And every time I do update the bios... I have to remove three of my four drives so that the BIOS will see the drive with the OS on in and not error "Hit any key" at startup...  The BOIS defaults to the top drive on my setup, and my top drive is a storage drive. Not able to see all four drives at the same time in the BOIS thus far...

That is an outrageous amount of Vcore for that clock speed bud...

I see this same issue with bios rev 2.07 as far as having a hard time setting the mem speed.  I would set it say to 1867, reboot to bios and it would be back at 1600 yet still show the setting at 1867.  I found one way to set the memory correctly, is to reset cmos, set up the memory speed 1st, reboot back to bios to set up the rest of the settings and voltages.  Then it worked as it should.

As far as your HDD situation, what I had to do to stop that was by disabling the "non" boot drives completely.  Then setting the number 1 boot position to be your OS drive.  Matter of fact, I disabled everything in the boot priority list except my boot drive.  No issue's since.  I did it in two places.  1st, in the "boot priority" list, and also in the "Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities" located in the main "Boot" tab.

lol I have the worse Ivy Bridge as chip. 1.47v to get to 4.6GHZ. I have Hyper Threading on though. Temperature with my water cooling is 70 degrees on load. Still haven't fully tested for stability but it works for now. =-/

That is an outrageous amount of Vcore for that clock speed bud...

Yeah it is. I was getting lots of BSODs. The reason is because my memory is faulty. Got lots of errors on Memtest. I'm exchanging my G.Skills to some Corsairs. I kept raising the CPU Vcore thinking it needed more. Maybe once I get memory that actually works my overclock won't need such a high vcore when I test it again.
