Anyone getting higher overclocks with i7 4930k or 4960x with this new bios?

Other than for whatever reason CPU-Z doesn't show correct Vc voltage, this latest revision seems to be pretty solid.  I still need to do more OC testing, but so far so good...

I'm also relieved to be able to disable the voltage spiking now with the new "K-boost" option.

Has anyone confirmed that with K-BOOST disabled the voltage spike on boot is gone???

Memory seems much more stable. I was able to do an error-free memtest 4.0  run (Windows Pro Version), what I could not do before. (2400MHz 11-12-12-32-366-2T w/32GB RAM).

More testing to be done later on.

Well I found my first anomaly,

I disabled K-boost and I can POST but the OS hangs. I get the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

I enable K-boost and I can POST and get to the OS....

Anyone else on here OC with Kboost disabled?

Yeah got same error at previus Rocksolid oc. Seems to work with it enabled to i'm gonna stick with that. Still testing tho. Don´t think the spike matters anyway.

K-boost disabled here.  Was running it enabled last night for a bit until I noticed it was defaulted that way.  Then disabled it.  No issue's.

My previously stable settings caused a BSOD in Windows. I had to reenable it. I don't have a problem with that anyway... mem clocks better with 2.07 imho.

I don't blame you.  I stayed on bios 2.02 until this new one released yesterday because of that.  I did try both 2.04 & 2.05 briefly, just to see how they worked.  These spikes are just to high for my liking, even if for only a moment.  I boot & re-boot my PC many times a day to be gambling on what this spike thing may or may not do to my chip..

@bcavanaugh
what volts/settings get you yo 4.8 ghz?
Cooling? Temps?
the canardpc page you posted shows the idle state and .92v. Do you have a screenshot during an intel burn test?

For CPU Burn it is set at 1.400 For GPU Burn it is set at 1.420

I'm still worried. I have to run with Kboost enabled and Supposedly KBoost allows for the voltage spike on POST?

I haven't seen an official comment made by EVGA yet...

Actually they have commented some time ago - Jacob said it was a feature, and there were no issues with it " as far as they are aware". Not sure why it would be considered a feature, but that was what was said. But they added the option to disable it due to push back from the community.

Ok I remember that post. It just sounded very cryptic and not detailed or clear.

I need to find a way to run with Kboost disabled. I'm worried about the spike.

Yeah can't say I blame ya, sure would not want to be the first to find out it can damage.
I will be putting my build together here over the holidays so am certainly watching all of this with great interest.

Re: EVGA X79 Dark - BIOS 2.07 Released 2013/10/19 16:23:15 (permalink)
So far so good in 2.07. I can OC the same and my XMP now works fine again. Oddly the Dark still defaults the DIMM voltage to 1.55 when its rated 1.50. (corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 1.5v) Not a big deal.

Question - I hook up my 3.5" USB 3.0 HUB (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007KJ1TGS/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

And the board hangs at B2. If I disconnect it and then plug it back in while in Windows it works perfect. Does anyone (EVGA) have any ideas or suggestions?

Re: EVGA X79 Dark - BIOS 2.07 Released 2013/10/19 19:32:16 (permalink)
I haven't overclocked it yet but my XMP profile 1 works on my 16GB G.Skill 2400 9-11-11-31... my XMP profile 2 got a BSOD right when booting to Windows.

Another problem that I got is that connecting my Dell monitor USB 3 plug hub to the USB 3 plug on the X79 Dark... it causes BSOD... I'll post a picture of the BSOD after. My Gigabyte X58 with the same USB3 by Asmedia did not have that problem. It worked fine. With X79 Dark it causes BSOD.

Another problem (not sure if related) when picking UEFI First on the Launch Video OpROM Policy in the BIOS... my USB connection drops in Windows. A lot. My mouse and keyboard and anything connected to my USBs stop working then turn on again. Once I disabled that option in BIOS then they started working once again.

so 2.07 lets me get to 4.6 ghz with 1.36v vcore whereas with 2.04 that was not possible.
ELEET is showing 1.42v under stress. temps low 70s. I guess I could push it further. but for daily use 4.5 ghz only requires 1.3v.

I still run my 4930k at the stock 3.4 - I haven't overclocked before so I'm still a little apprehensive!

I designed my new rig with overclocking intentions so I just need to grow some balls and give it a go ;-)

So officially what vcore is the chip running at if vdroop is disabled? I put in 1.35v and during stress tests like IBT or Prime95 the voltage shows 1.43-1.45 on ELeet. That is a huge difference... What are safe voltages to run 24/7?

Through trial and error, the lowest voltage I was able to finish IBT was 1.30 in the BIOS which ended up being 1.399v on ELeet during 100% load.

For me the voltage shown in eleet is a tad higher than real DMM-voltage. I try to run 80% for Vdroop so the set voltage is round about the same as idle voltag an under load it droops a lil below that.

Simple question is the Dark worth the money, I had a EVGA Classified X79 and it was broke from day 1.  Everything else I own in my pc is EVGA just wondering if this is worth the purchase or not.

Thanks for the input

Re: EVGA X79 Dark - BIOS 2.07 Released 2013/10/20 02:48:48 (permalink)
VDroop = Voltage droop , if DISABLE it voltage will rise in heavy load durring stres bench/test etc...this value varies from your voltage in bios set to almost +100mv(0.1v) depends how heavy stress test is( prime95/ibt/linX /intel burntest etc..) so the real voltage aplied to cpu with this option DISABLE is NOT the value that you in bios set , this is only idle value durring os load or something sligty load.
here video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toRDRgT9AUU&feature=youtu.be

VDroop = intel specs = Enabled , this function will droop the voltage in heavy load , you set in bios a vcore  value , boot ~ with that value but in load voltage will droop 40-50mv ( 0,04-0,05v)
VDroop = 60% - 80% this function enabled vdroop in voltage precentage ...i used always VDroop -80% because the value idle/load is the most accurate with reality on this board ...not perfecty because evga bios team haven´t implement vdroop-100% /120% to calibrated the pwm better ..all voltages onthis board is very unaccuracy not only vcore

Simple question is the Dark worth the money, I had a EVGA Classified X79 and it was broke from day 1.  Everything else I own in my pc is EVGA just wondering if this is worth the purchase or not.

Thanks for the input

Based on your sig you have a RIVE, so what gives to want to go DARK ?
From my part with 2.07 overclocking and usage of the DARK has been a breeze. 2.02 was good, 2.04-2.05 had it's issues. 2.07 is great so far. K-Boost disabled and clock 4.2GHz v1.25 on my old 3960X without much sweat. Vdrop 80% which is fantastic. 4.4GHz haven't tested much yet v1.35 was a little too high. Aiming for some lower voltage.
