I'm not on the up and up about Shamino so let me just make sure I got this right.

-Shamino is the OP of that thread
-Shamino was employed by EVGA
-Shamino developed or helped develop the Classified board (taking this assumption by the comment of increasing the thickness of the PCI-E traces)
-Shamino (thus EVGA) knew of issues in this regard w/ ATI 3xxx series cards?
-Shamino left EVGA (Imagine that. . . . . . . . . .)

My head is spinning right now... I mean, seriously... Have I mentioned I just bought this board a month ago (at which point it was EVGA's premier motherboard unless you wanted to roll 4 way SLI) and you can still buy it right now off of many retailers?

Am I really expected to break out my soldering iron (which I have one and can use very efficiently - so not the point here...) and modify my $359.99 board that is a month old as suggested by an ex EVGA employee who helped to develop said board?

REALLY!?

Kill me now. . .

Wow, shocking info indeed if they had known about this issue since early 09..

I just ordered a 762 and although it has the extra molex connector on it for the pcie lanes, one can't help but wonder "what if?"

you will be fine with the 4 way just plug the molex cable in.

So as the evidence of neglect on EVGA's part continues to grow. What will the official solution be?

EVGA X79 Dark
Intel 4820K on HK3.0
16GB worth of Vengeance
EVGA 1300G2
EVGA 660TI
EVGA 660TI
EVGA660SC
SSD's Galore

The molex connector on board is power connector for PCI express slot and they are not powering video card they powering slot actually.plug it in even if you are using one gpu

just do the molex mod... and play it safe, you could pay say performance-pcs.com to do a good job with one... or if your good at modding do it yourself...=/ better safe than sorry and better than losing hardware.

It does look like this mod could be done, and removed at will, without any indication that it was ever there, should a RMA become necessary assuming you avoided the hot glue gun instructions. electrical tape would insulate, just as well, and a tie strap could secure the cable, so it wouldn't get pulled on, yet both , be removed without evidance they were ever there.

I'm not sure what's worse - The fact that they're (EVGA) pulling the wool over our eyes and have been for so very long or the fact that most of you are so fanboy'ish you seem to be enjoying the fact that they're pulling the wool over our eyes...

I can understand how some of you MAY be accepting to having to hit up solder points on  your board but I just am not all jumping for joy for this amazing mod for a board that's a month old.

Perhaps Shamino peaced out on EVGA because he seen it wasn't everything it was made out to be, I wouldn't be suprised. Especially not with information such as this coming to light.

wow i cant beleive i never saw this before.  i have number 1420 of the e759 boards.  you have me all scared now that everything is going to melt.  i have had this board since it first came out, and never had any problems with it.   one week ago i decided to get an ax1200 psu because i didnt think my cm1000w psu was enough for my 2 480's and 285physx.  i would really hate to lose that ax1200.

anything we can do to prevent this from happening???  i really dont have the money to purchase new parts right now.

I'm starting to feel the same tension here.  If there is the possibility that this problem could cause harm to our families then it needs to be addressed and fast.  This is exactly where class-action comes to mind.  I'm not gnashing my teeth as of yet, but this needs to be addressed by EVGA.  It is apparent that the issue was known quite a while ago and is not being fixed; at the very least we should be afforded the possibility to step up to the C3.  Or, a full recall to have the mod done for us.  It's the right and decent thing to do.  What say you?

^^^^ Agreed 100% ....now I have a Tri SLi in which I'm reluctant to put a 3rd Card in.
Give us the option to either:
1. Send our Boards to Brea and have Evga Techs install the Molex "properly" or
2. Step up to a C3

Would be the "right" thing to do.

Sadly the only way for you to save your stuff is the molex mod in my first post that someone else linked and I relinked it... its something that should had been addressed when it went out for sale but what your going to do.... I would suggest doing it asap so you can save your board if you do not feel confident in doing it pay someone to do it or ask someone on the forums to do it.... would had been nice if this issue was up front and put out there so I could had saved myself a 759 board and the hardware i lost... this whole mess all together would had been nice to avoid....

the thing about the C3 is no nf200 chip.... would be a downgrade for 759 users stat III/6 is nice, so is usb 3 but honestly no one really has any usb 3 devices yet. The only thing I use right now is SATA III/6 for my WD vel raptor 600gig drive... to just get the extra speed...

I too am worried, but it should be noted that this has not happened to all X58 boards all the time and clearly will not always happen.  The problem I see is that no one has said how to reproduce this problem consistently so people do not know what not to do to guarantee it does not happen.  Given the option I would definitely take a replacement to the new Classified if given the option.

I had modded my old 760 board.  Hoping this would stabilize the board...but it was too late.

But the damage was already done from this...

ended up rma'n it.

Glue and soldering was easily removed.

should be fine with your gpus, its when you get the right ati cards and the right nvidia card setup with the 400 series is when this happens... but I would do the mod anyways to guantee it will not happen....

Yep the mod looks simple enough.  It would be nice if EVGA let all of you Classified guys to step up to the C3 because of this.

Just checked my 24 pin again...nothing damaged. Yet. Does the fact that the connector going into the board is an extension have anything to do with why I haven't seen any issues?
I'm running 2x GTX 480s and a GTS 450 FTW for PhysX...mostly all 3 are on full load folding.
I'd be willing to wait in a queue for the Classified 3 step-up so that the customers who have actual damage can be served first.

I had modded my old 760 board.  Hoping this would stabilize the board...but it was too late.

But the damage was already done from this...

ended up rma'n it.

Glue and soldering was easily removed.

I like this MOD  It is very simple to do, now if someone can post a 101 Solding Guide that should help  Also, before you do, someone should contact EVGA to see if this would void the Guaranty, just to be safe

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

That's a good question.  As others have stated, I don't think it's been determined exactly what the component mix is to caus this issue.  2 x 480s seems to be the minimum at this point.  That's why I suggest EVGA find out and let us know.  At least say something like "we are investigating this..." or some standard corporate line.

I too would be willing to queue for the step-up.

If there is a decision to offer the Step-Up to us 760/759 owners, I think it would be an excellent gesture.
Yes, there will be some lost face because it was a problem that was known about since the design phase.
But it's a hundred times better than ignoring it and doing nothing.

Is this only happening with overclocked cards, or stock cards as well? If only overclocked cards that are having a problem, I would be surprised if any company would cover it.. kind of like putting aviation fuel in your car and blowing your engine redlining it.. car manufacturer warranty probably doesn't cover that.

I'm rebuilding the rig with the classy in it for my brother's birthday.
I think I'll do this mod just to be on the safe side. Those solder points look like they're nice and big for a noob like me.

Hate to give my bro a gift that will go up in smoke!

This gigabyte Ud9 I just got actually has 2 molex 4 pins on it.

Story time...

I have a friend who turned me onto building my own PC's a while back. He brought me here and we both became loyal EVGA'ers. In his newest build (trying to top mine), I suggested he go w/ the Asus Rampage III Extreme. Well, he did and in the process he burnt a couple of boards up apparently. When I seen this thread and this discussion I called him right away and we got to talking about the R3E. He has his 3rd board back and come to find out he didn't even realize he should be plugging the Molex in - He was under the assumption that they were there for extreme overclocking much like the secondary 8 pin connector on his 760. His R3E wouldn't even boot up.

I talked to him a few minutes ago and he is in the process of trying to get it going, again. He called to tell me there are actually TWO 4 pin Molex connectors on the R3E. One above the PCI Lanes and one below the PCI Lanes (kinda in the spot the Classy 3 has there one) and after actually bothering to read the manual it specifically states to connect those plugs (They even have adapters in the motherboard packaging for them) if you are running a multi GPU setup.

Look at the images you can see them both.

Hmm... 2-46 of the R3E manual it does indeed state to connect BOTH molex connectors if you are running a multi gpu setup. Here's the manual if anyone cares to look.

Hmm, why does the Classy3 or 762 onry have 1!?

I'm hoping we hear something from someone @ EVGA in regards to this but my mind is almost made up as to the direction I am headed.. If that's so then someone be on the lookout for a cheap 760 w/ full coverage EK block

Official response is,
"This is a very rare issue which only happens under a very specific setup of comonents...."

As for the warranty standpoint,
"As long as the wires are removed and the board still looks like it did new then there is no problem"

Personally i would love to be able to step up to the classy 3 even though my step up ran out 3 days ago.. It isnt gonna happen though is it ;)
