From what I understand form the available material, U.2 (PU1) and U.2 (PU2) can be populated without affecting the above PE1,2,4,6 availability/lanes?

I'm guessing you're talking about the x299 dark board? If so, it would seem one of the slots wouldn't work when using a 44 lane skylake-x cpu as both pu1 and pu2 pull x4 lanes from the cpu itself according to the manual. With pe1, pe2, pe4 & pe6 populated you would be using 40 pci-e lanes from the cpu leaving only 4 available for only one of the pu slots to work. With a Cascade Lake-X 48 lane cpu both pu slots should work in theory as 8 pci-e lanes would still would be available.

PCIe mapping found in this:  https://xdevs.com/guide/e299ocg/

Oops, yup. X299 Dark. Sajin, your psychic powers are at full strength.
Cool GTX - Thanks for the xDevs link, that's a new source of X299 Dark info for me.
Given the existing details I'm surprised they haven't commented on Cascade Lake-X PCIe mapping, particularly as the i9-10XXX processors are identified earlier in the page.
Nevermind, Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Once I have proof of concept with my PSUs (2 x AX1600i) I'll give the U.2 NVMe storage a crack.

Thanks again.

Which CPU are you using?  Still the i9 7920X?

What utility are you using to read the PCIe lanes?

There is no any difference between SKX 44-lane and CLX 48-lane CPUs in PCIe mapping on X299 DARK.
Motherboard does not use (pins are physically not routed to anything) those additional 4 lanes on CLX.
So everything is exactly the same as SKX 44-lane maps.

If you have question, please post in public forum. I do not reply PMs, so all in community can benefit the answer.

Is it POSSIBLE to add 4133Mhz memory preset in x299 DARK bios? I have G.skill 4133Mhz B-die ram which can run stable this frequency via @fsb, but (think weak imc of cpu) can't load system with 4200 Mhz.

Re: EVGA X299 Motherboards! 2020/12/23 12:10:52 (permalink)
So I am definitely coming off a few questions for the Evga x299 Dark Motherboard.
Will I need to update the Bois before putting a newer 10th gen processor in it?
Also with other newer hardware like Grahpics card/ Hard drive/ ram/ etc... will i need to update the Bios for these items as well?
Is it possible to get bios chip sent to me seeing as all of my part will be fairly new and I dont think I would be able to flash the bios with out an older processor to put in it.

My plan is to put the Core i9 10980xe in it along with some other newer Evga products?
I have a lot of curiosity when it comes to this motherboard, but I have my heart set on it as well and On top of that, i have had top performance with every Evga product I've purchased so if some one could please fill me in when they get the chance it would be greatly appreciated.
I also apologize if everything seem jumbled up in this post

My board didn't come with the latest BIOS pre-flashed, but it still recognized 10980XE.

Contact EVGA with your board's serial number and they'll tell you if it supports CL-X out of the box, and if it doesn't, they will send you a new BIOS chip with the latest BIOS flashed.

I love my X299 FTW, only issue I have is the VRM fan ignoring my 20% setting on a cold boot most of the time so I have to cycle it.  But since I normally run my system for days at a time it's not a big deal...

Anyone know if the x299 dark, with i9-10900x cpu, will support 4 32gb simms for 128gb ram?  Documentation suggests not but seems to have been written long before release of this cpu.  Intel's documentation suggests support for 256gb ram.  Not a big deal: 64 is working fine for now, but I use vms a lot and might want to max out the ram eventually if possible.

Hi
Yep as first stated , first asked EVGA and so far no response. Possibly because is an older board.
As for the blanks, thot about that but with my skillset these days....let's just say it would not be pretty and more of a mess.
Thks for replying.

Hey everyone,
I know I'm late to the party, but I'm finally upgrading off of my x99 to an x299 (since Intel seems to be avoiding enthusiast grade these days....i'm going with the most recent), and I'm moving to a 10980XE. I've got a x299 Dark in the mail, and I remembered It's prolly not flashed with anything past 1.19. I'm assuming bios chips are gone? Will it boot to bios without a CPU/can I flashback? Or do I need to find a 76xx cpu?
Thanks!

Congrats on your First Post

It should BOOT

You will need to flash BIOS for Best function per the EVGA Note

**Cascade Lake-X CPUs can boot into the BIOS with older BIOS versions, but will not function properly until updated to at least version 1.19

Awesome. Thanks for the Info. I'll hold off on the 7xxx series til I have parts in hand and test then, and I'll circle back and share results once I have it built out.

Ya, I'm surprised this is my first post. My account is from 2012, but my first EVGA Mobo was a NVIDIA Nforce4 SLI with two EVGA 7950 GX2 (which is still my favorite build...) back in 2004/5ish? AND I know I did an RMA in 2007. So maybe I have an older account running around out there or something.

Re: EVGA X299 Motherboards! 2023/07/03 23:18:56 (permalink)
Apologies for the delay in updating. Work, life, kids, etc.

Mobo didn't post right away, and it took my tired brain a moment to realize I had all 4x32gb in onboard, and it wasn't gonna like that. Went down to one stick, and it posted right away after a cmos clear.
Mobo came with 1.20 installed, so it recognized my 10980xe instantly. So sorry I can't confirm if it would work for people with older BIOS versions. BUT I got this from the EVGA store on Amazon, so I have to think that if I got it with 1.20 in 2023, you'd be hard pressed to find one with an earlier bios.
Flashed up to 1.29, and installed all 4x32gb cards of ram, no problem. Went with corsair on this one, the vengeance line has always worked for me. Didn't feel like paying for really high speed ram, so I went with 3200, and I still managed to OC to 3800 no problem.

I think I remember seeing on a GamersNexus extras video recently that the OC AI for x299 was the first EVGA did. That said, its pretty simple click and go. It's suggested 5400ghz was a little too aggressive and I hand to cmos clear again. But the conservative setting put me at 4.8ghz, and i'm running stable. Currently using an AIO, and plan to go duel loop, full liquid next year sometime, with an all black build in keeping with the dark theme. Maybe even a soft tube build. Who knows.

Anyways, highly impressed with the board. Tin and Kingpin did amazing work, and their documentation was impeccable. It's a crying shame EVGA isn't making cards anymore, and I really wish you all would consider doing the investment to develop your own GPU cores or work with Intel or something. I'm really worried your Mobo's and PSU's will go the way of the dodo too, and that would be an equal shame.
