I was disappointed with the M.2 slots on the EVGA X299 Dark motherboard. These are the two slots located between the PCIe slots and underneath a plastic shield (aka M2 Cooler), which directs airflow over any mounted NVMe drives. I was disappointed with the screw-down M.2 drive holders. I found the screws small and flimsy. They did not thread easily and easily cross threaded. The screws easily bent. I suggest EVGA needs to use better screws and better mounts to screw into.

I assure you, I have a full set of tools designed especially for the job and I always fit my blades carefully to the screws. And ASUS? Are those made of Silly Putty?

So it was the screws used for drive mounting and not the actual M.2 slots you have an issue with, title was misleading

Hold and align before you tighten up the screw.

I took all of the plastic off except the small little fan. It's in the closet somewhere.

I am having the same issue also, the thread on the m.2 screw is to short and not long enough to screw down the m.2 Really disappointed with this crucial mistake.

+1. On one of my slots everything is fine but on other spacer seems to be at slightly longer distance which makes screw end up under the angle barely holding NVMe drive in place.

I have two X299 Darks. On one of them I don't have issue, on other one I do so I am left with an impression what I see is due to manufacturing variations.
