A very nice decision from EVGA because many people simply don't have internal DVD drives anymore. Most people use ESB sticks for driver and O/S installs. future EVGA motherboards (H370 included) will no longer come with a driver DVD. This info was from Jacob's twitter account.

That's a good move by EVGA and pretty cool.

Jacob commented that the cost of including a standard 8 GB USB 2.0 flash drive is about twenty times that of an old-school DVD. Nevertheless, EVGA motherboard prices will not increase to cover the cost.

Looking at the drive, it looks like they could be used with a lanyard. I doubt this drive has good performance, but would make for some pretty cool swag.

They should make the USB drives with the shape of an EVGA card (as Nvidia did):

I remember ASUS do this with it's $500+ ROG motherboards. On my windows 10 Pro 16GB USB 3.0 boot drive, i added a folder for my system drivers and software installs i need after doing a clean install of windows.

Will evga be putting them in with video cards or just motherboards?

It would be wise to put the sticks in both boxes but maybe they will start with motherboards first.

I've gotten video cards from EVGA that didn't include a driver disc. I doubt EVGA will want to fork out the extra cost on a USB drive when they sell a ton of video cards.

USB sticks are so low in cost now that they compete with optical disks more easily

I buy 128GB sticks which have a bit more room to work with

I see some sales.. Staples and such, where a 4gig drive on sale is .99 cents.
I know some companies(VW), give all paperwork to you saved on a usb stick (4gig).

Looking online i see 1.95$ Bulk rate usb drives.  when a DVD is .10 cents, i can see where the price is 20X higher.
Come on though, 2$ is a flash in the pan, compared to the increase in gpu's the past 2 years. (GTX1070 FTW $449. to $559 now)

Did ASUS ever sell them? Feb of last year, the only ASUS mobo that came with one, was over $500.

How many video cards do you think EVGA sells a year? Lets say 100k video cards a year. You think going from $10,000 a year on a worthless driver disc to $200,000 a year for a USB drive is small amount? You have to think about the volume amount this will cost EVGA.

You forgot this is about motherboards. Video cards can use generic drivers to get into Windows and download drivers.

Apparently they are going disk free.. I am not, and im not worried if they include a disk or usb drive, or none at all.  I know how to download these things.
Do i think its a small amout?   No, but if EVGA wants to do it, im fine with it
If you think EVGA will not pass the buck onto the consumer(Ahem...CLC Tuners for $15, for .03 cents of material), then im sure your out of your mind.

As for EVGA passing the cost with the motherboards onto the buyer, Jacob said this.

Jacob commented that the cost of including a standard 8 GB USB 2.0 flash drive is about twenty times that of an old-school DVD. Nevertheless, EVGA motherboard prices will not increase to cover the cost.

As for video card, it doesn't make any sense for EVGA to swap out a useless driver disc to a USB drive and either charge more for their video cards or eat the cost. If you think this would be a good business move, then I'm sure you're out of your mind.

Yeah I still have a DVD drive in my system. It's just not hooked up and I'm too lazy to remove it and put the cover back in the case.

You can always buy an external USB Cd/DVD drive.

But the idea of including USB sticks is way better (of course, if you enter in the manufacturer website you can download the drivers as well).

    Case: Asus Z370-G Box / MB: Asus Z370-G / CPU: Intel I7 8700K / Mem.: 16GB (2x8) 3000Mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 / GPU: GTX 1080TI FTW3 / A.I.O. W.C: EVGA CLC280 / PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 750W

Then why not use a 4GB stick?

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

Did ASUS ever sell them? Feb of last year, the only ASUS mobo that came with one, was over $500.

Asus does not sell the usb stick. Not all boards come with the usb stick either.

Usb drives being included is not something new, but I wonder why companies couldnt include a driver cache stored on the board by now. All you need is a chipset driver and an ethernet/wireless lan driver and the rest of the drivers are readily available online.

How many video cards do you think EVGA sells a year? Lets say 100k video cards a year. You think going from $10,000 a year on a worthless driver disc to $200,000 a year for a USB drive is small amount? You have to think about the volume amount this will cost EVGA.

Of course motherboard prices will increase.. its inherent.  Then again, would you really know if they increased the price 2-10$?
EVGA gives us an msrp of a product they make, and we accept that. the only problem i see here is the enigmatic 9 on any price, i.e. $249, $289 $399,   so the price would probably increase by $10 and we would never be the wiser.
When one person from a company says "it will not affect the price".  I just have to say.. Prove it.    It always affects the price.

As far a video cards, it may not make any sense to some, it is still faster to transfer files via usb then to burn them to disk.(which can be done in house), where as disks need to be burned by a 3rd party. also disks need to have a disk sleeve which adds to the cost.
