Hi everyone! This is my first post.

I recently bought this laptop when it went on sale and love the build quality. The only thing that really grinds my gears is the fan speed. I know when you're gaming, its suppose to ramp up but when idle, its running at 2000 rpm, when I opened the XOC mobile. Is that normal speeds for this laptop? I thought it would be dead quiet silent for this.

Thank you!

I noticed it seems to run fast, but it is a i7 so I forgive it.  ^_^

Here are my fan speeds when idle:
    CPU: ~2300 rpm
    GPU: ~2170 rpm
According to the fan control curve and the temperatures, these numbers should be 25% of the max fan speed.
However, both fans can only reach ~6000 rpm with fan boost which is usually supposed (?) to be the max.
Either the percentages are not accurate or the fan boost button is not equivalent to 'max fan'.

This bothers me too.  I don't know why they couldn't shut off the fans at a certain temperature.  With an SSD in the 2.5" bay it'd be silent.  I have tried other laptops that are silent at idle.

I spoke with tech support today to ask if you can turn off the fans. They said no, because the laptop has "beefy components." I tried a Dell G7 with a CPU with the same 45W TDP and a 1060-maxq. Idle though, that doesn't matter. That laptop didn't turn on fans until it needed to. It didn't spin them at all until it ramped up. So, beefy components or not, they could spin down the fans during low load. It won't affect longevitiy of the hardware or anything. I will say this though, under load the SC15 is definitely quieter than the G7. But, I don't understand why they choose to keep the fans running all the time.

well most gamig laptops do have the fans running all the time, even at low rpm, except for newer razer and few others, that appeal to multimedia media, ultrabooks users, that want ot game too.  Either way, it is possible through the fan bios, or unlocking the bios.....but if you it off and set low first ramp up like 65C, the pulsating fan on and off might irritate more than just a constant fan.   I set my at 20% in BIOS, but much more agressive when surpassing 70C, GPU side agressive after 65C.  But I am overclocked at 4.6GHz and running a 1080 just recenently modded from 180W to 230W, though. Still in testing fase this mod.

Agreed.  I tried a very low fan speed at lower temperatures, but found that the temperature then fluctuated up and down a lot due to heat soaking at low fan speed and dissipation at higher fan speeds which caused the fan speed to pulsate low/high over and over again.  The pulsating became very annoying after a very short period of time.  I have my minimum fan speed set at 30%, a slow gentle curve at first, which quickly ramps up to 100% fan speed near the 75c mark.  In most cases, it doesn't fluctuate much.  Basically, I tried fancy stuff at first but essentially resorted -- in the end -- to something similar to EVGA's default fan curve except for ramping up to 100% fan speed sooner.
