@fizban Interesting piece you wrote.I do like the structure and knowledge in how system works.
It is funny how I didn't connect socialism with my name, this account is so old that my nick changed multiple times since origin of it.
Thus said, to say I am a fan boy of EVGA, welp, here is a deal, last item I owned from EVGA was gtx 780 sli... and it was only 2 products I ever owned from EVGA
I just like their warranty, but in last month I noticed they are doing a lot on twitch and general, I haven't seen Asus or MSI doing anything remotely similar

In any case, a well written piece! +rep

I appreciate the support, same as I wrote above!  Very kind of you to do so.  And I do apologize to you.  I'm sure this could be perceived as so, but I wasn't trying to stick up for you on the playground.  I'm sure you didn't need me to do anything of the sort.  I just decided to add my voice out there; my stepping off point, so to speak.

TBH, I didn't even connect socialism to your handle, either.  My mind just didn't see the letters in the middle, at all.  I was trying to figure out how he got socialism out of what you wrote. - Enjoy the rest of your weekend.  Time to bathe the dog for me.

My build:
MSI Prestige X570 Creation

Broadcom 9361-8i RAID card

You good, nothing to apologize, and why would i be bothered if someone decides to help me, I would rather extend my hand and help them and cover their back if need be. It is a forum after all, opinions do fly left and right.

"I was trying to figure out how he got socialism out of what you wrote" me too man =)
I hope your bath went fine, and you didn't soak up that much. have a good rest of your weekend

Re: EVGA Queue Summary 2021/06/06 14:59:39 (permalink)

I want to be as clear and I can: I am in no way associated with EVGA, other than as a consumer/end-user.  I have no investment in the company and I am not a product reviewer who receives any kind of support nor monetary incentive from EVGA.  I do not want anyone to accuse me of anything related to that.  I had to think long and hard about whether or not to even write anything.  This will probably be TLDR, but I hope that some of you enjoy my thoughts.

<snip>

If you take @c4USSR72 at face value, assuming he meant to only express his opinion, I can see that he makes some valid points.  In no way does he imply any form of socialism, so I'm not sure where that came from.  I am married to a wonderfully talented woman who grew up in the Soviet regime, which was called the USSR or United Soviet Socialist Republic.  I've received an education on what socialism actually means from her, someone who lived it, and this is no where near that.  There is no way that EVGA could be confused for a company that operates under Socialist conditions.  That was just from out of left field.  C'mon, man!

<snip>

In no way did @c4USSR72 give EVGA credit for any efforts that @enewt has done for this forum or his efforts with the NA Queue report.  Quite the opposite, in fact; he praised @enewt for stepping up to do the NA Queue report.  Until @enewt wrote above that this was simply a project he was doing, I had thought he was associated with EVGA (Associate's code?) and that he worked for the company in some capacity and was compiling the NA Queue report as a service to the consumers.  Now that I know this is not the fully the case, I also would like to praise @enewt.  After all, without this report, we would literally be in the dark.

<snip>

What most people need to keep in mind is how we got to this point.  It wasn't just any one thing.  It was a series of events that perfectly led to this GPU/chip shortage.

<snip>

Now, does all of this mean that I give EVGA a "Pass?"  Yes...and no.  I realize that exigent circumstances caused decisions that would not have been made under normal market conditions.  Do I excuse lack of more and clearer communication?  No.  EVGA could be more forthright in letting consumers know what is going on.  Are they obligated to do so?  No, not really.  Would it be good PR?  Probably.

@fizban, thanks for taking the time and effort to put together your post.  I read it through at least twice...once out and about in a park on my phone and again just now back at the laptop. A few thoughts immediately come to mind:

     1.  I didn't get the socialism reference from the prior author and while I tried to piece it together...it was beyond me...my inability could be the result of sunstroke.  In general, I look skeptically at allegations of "socialism" or "communism" in the context of a brand-focused company selling a discretionary commercial products to consumers with significant disposable income. I just missed the connection to socialism.  And maybe it is my almost 50 trips around the sun, but please don't get me started on the expression "simp" or, in the case of my daughter's playing "Among Us", the non-word "sus" ("Darn it, the word is 'suspect'" can be heard echoing around our home on the regular.).  I don't know, I tend to think this community is better than dismissing alternative perspectives through derogatory labels....

     2.  Your wife sounds like she has led quite the life. I bet there is quite to story of how the two of you found your way to each other.

     3.  Thanks for the kind words about my participation in this community; I do appreciate them. To clear it up, I do not work for EVGA. I am just a gamer with a 90% built rig waiting to obtain the eventual heart of the machine. Like many Elite members who frequent these forums, I signed up for an Associate Code which gets me some EVGA points when people use the code at checkout to get a discount off of the cost of their purchase. Other folks' codes provide the exact same discount. As somebody with a code, I cannot use a code for my own purchase (it is a binary choice...either have a code for others to use OR don't have a code and use another's). I fell into this summarizing role by accident (previously documented)...but have tried to embrace the responsibility of keeping track of when folks get "invite to purchase" emails and summarizing that record for the community. My daughter was originally frustrated by some of the time spent on the summaries (she calls it my "Ev-ga stuff" (two syllables)) but I shared with her some of the expressions of gratitude that folks have graciously taken the time to post, and I think she gets why I do it.  And, to my great excitement, she has joined me at times in working on it and made my crusade for a KPE HC part of her experience...helping to do basic online research for loop parts and drawing her version of how the final tubing should look...oh, and she wants a lot more argb unicorn poop than I was willing to put in my build (her less than subtle approach at suggesting that we should build her a desktop rig for her Minecraft and school work...I think that will be a 40 series project).

     4.  I agree...this tech launch debacle is the result of multiple inputs...fab issues, supply chain issues, under-market pricing, covid-enhanced demand, organic and inorganic growth of computer gaming, the rise of crypto (thanks for nothing Elon), remote learning (also covid-related), the underwhelming 20XX generation, low inventory at launch (which attracted incremental shoe-botters and scalpers), and overall hype.  I continue to lay most of the blame at NVIDIA's kitchen island, but to @fizban's point, it wasn't all their fault.

     5.  I understand why EVGA is not more forthcoming about specific volumes dropping to the queue, or specific queue positions.  I also get that the queue process was put together as a band-aid after the launch of the 3080s...the auto-notification button was never supposed to be the way to secure a card....  I also understand that the evga.com storefront was not intended to be a major source of purchase for consumers...but just an additional way to get product out to folks who don't have a best buy, microcenter or the equivalent near by...a way to hedge against further loss of shelf space for computer components when stores like Fry's inevitably fall to the Amazon effect.  So, I begrudgingly accept that EVGA needs to prioritize (or at least not deprioritize) their existing contractual relationships with retailers....

     6.  Having said all of that, I have never worked harder for the opportunity to spend $2K on a computer component. Never. But, the frustration and angst of this whole process -- for me -- has been materially mitigated by this community.  And, for that and many other reasons, I am very thankful that we continue to share s'mores on our watch...I likely would have found my way to ebay without the regulars in the forums.

P.S. A strong "7" is EVGA is asking JacobF to take on way too much of the communication effort.  He tweets, he interjects periodically in the forums, he streams on Twitch, and he has his underlying marketing gig...for a while, he was putting out a daily post to the Notification thread of which skus were dropping that day (he stopped after five or six weeks...pretty thankless job if you ask me)...that dude deserves some combat pay.  We are not the easiest of consumer groups with which to deal, especially given my weekly Tuesday demand that he draw us like his French girls (that's a Titanic Tuesday reference for folks new to the community). JacobF is one of the good guys of this story and I hope he is aware that his efforts have not gone unnoticed.  Finish your weekend strong...we all have only a limited supply....

enewt,
1) I'll be hitting my big 5-Oh on Dec 30.  Sounds like we have a lot in common, other than just hunting for GPU's.  I didn't get the socialism thing, either.  It's a term that get bandied-about a little too casually.  "Sus" - I hear ya!  Have we come to the point in society that people are just too lazy to say or spell out the complete word?

2) She truly has.  She's a professional violinist, has performed in different continents, teaches here at the University level and somehow I convinced her to marry me; so she has good taste in men.  Come to think of it, that may be her best quality!  And how we met is a funny story, in the most unlikely of places, Waco, TX after we separately took jobs that brought us here within 3 months of each other.  If you are interested, I'll PM you, but let's just say that caveman style still works.  And I never forget that I married way above my station in life.

3) You have earned it - through 6668 posts, countless hours doing what some would call a meaningless task and dealing with the people who just want to post to get on the Elite list.  It's great that you have your daughter helping you.  Sounds like a special bond, there.  Mine are 17 (boy) and 14 (girl) and are wonderful kids.  For next year, both will be in the same high school, God help us!

4) Yeah, agree with that.  Nvidia has to take some blame here, but since almost every tech missed the demand boat from the pandemic, I tend to not necessarily give them a pass, but have a more empathic view toward Nvidia as a business.

5) I understand that sentiment.  EVGA is between a rock and hard place here.  A true Catch-22.  It's obvious that unless Nvidia decides to skip this year in development and let's it ride to late 2022 to introduce new products, effectively skipping an entire cycle, then there is no way that most people on the queue for the 30-series cards will get a card.  The demand for EVGA was too great and the supply chain is too low and not recovering quickly enough.  What they could do is concentrate on a true store front, concentrate more on their own list and negotiate any further orders from there online vendors to supply less.  EVGA still makes their money through a store-front and it shows the loyal customers they care about the queue.  I'd almost be willing to bet this conversation has already occurred somewhere in the higher management/executive level.  Will it get better?  Yes.  Will it get better in time for all to get a card they want before the next upgrade cycle from Nvdia?  That's an unknowable answer right now.  However, EVGA did start the queue, so on the Executive level, they need to figure out what to do moving forward with those on the list.  It's their Frankenstein, now.

6) I'm with you there.  My wife and kids sometimes think I have lost my mind sitting in front of my computer hoping to snag a card faster than a bot from Amazon (who can block a bot transaction post-purchase, but not pre-purchase?!  Seriously?  You're Amazon for frack's sake!)  Don't get me started on how many times I entered Newegg to only be handed a dear-John e-mail late in the evening.  I reached the point though with the bundles that unless the card I want is in the shuffle and not in a bundle, I refuse to enter.  I have tried every time I see a notice pop up, but it's been going on like this since late February for me.  I'm frustrated and jaded.  I targeted the EVGA 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra from the beginning and I have passed up other opportunities to try for a different card, waiting through delays to get the opportunity to purchase one.

But, prior to the 3080 Ti launch, I watched the reviews and made a sound decision to stick with the 3080 FTW3 Ultra.  Not much performance increase for the money, I told myself.  So, I just signed up for the 3080 Ti as a fallback thinking that at least I could get on the list on launch day for the Elite queue, knowing that it's taken 8 months for EVGA to fulfill a little over a week's worth of queue for the 3080.  Much to my surprise, I'm on the verge of getting the opportunity to purchase the 3080 Ti, so I have a decision to make.  If I get the e-mail soon, I may need to remember that beggars can't be choosers.  You may have noted earlier from my previous posts that my time stamp for the 12G-P5-3967-KR is 6/3/2021 7:27:59 AM PT No -  the exact time stamp that JacobF called a stop at on Friday!  So, I suspect (sus - couldn't resist) sometime early this week or whenever their next shipment drop will be I will be faced with said decision.

7) I don't know this JacobF from EVGA.  But he sounds like one of the thankless warriors behind the scenes.  My hat is off to him!  Sounds like someone I should meet at some point.

I'm back to getting some work done around the house this Sunday evening.  Thanks for letting me contribute in some small way.

My family (with one of my brother's family via telephone) just finished watching the USNT via MNT match...what a great match.... My voice is shot, my nerves are gone and I am exhausted (just how every good weekend should end).  That is all by way of saying, I am heading for bed. I just wanted to drop a quick note thanking you for the thoughtful discourse (and the PM) today. I do appreciate it and it provided such a wonderful respite from the race-to-100 posts to which we've all been subject over the last few days. Thanks again!

I don't think I need to add these SKUs as additional new queues in the summary as the existing queues will become the queues for these new product numbers (see the tweets below). Come Thursday, the only new queues will be for the 3070 Tis and I already have placeholders in the summary for them. Again, thank you. Have a great night everybody.

Where is LHR displayed in my personal account? I do not have it
It is worth ordering for a regular video card

First, @Keenog, great sleuthing!

Second, @enewt, Any idea as to when the new sku transition will take place for the queue/notifies section?

I saw a report last night from Videocardz that the mining block was not just etherium, but reduced several others, as well. I am wondering (read hopeful) if a lot of miners will drop off the notify queue for these cards which, in turn, would speed up the fulfillment rate for those cards.

My build:
MSI Prestige X570 Creation
AMD 5950X
32GB DDR4 2400 MHz (still waiting for 2 x 32 GB 3600MHz I ordered)
Samsung 980 Pro 1TB NVMe
EVGA 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra
EK 360 AIO
Broadcom 9361-8i RAID card
6 x 18TB Seagate Exos x18 HDD's RAID 5 (PLEX)
Lian Li Uni case fans: 3 x 120 (AIO), 2 x 140 (REAR/Bottom)
2 x LG Optical Drives
Noctua Black.chromax.black 3 x 140 (front)

Do you have a link to that on Videocardz?

I’m going to be a couple of hours as I started my exercise this morning. But there’s a video posted by graphically challenged if you can handle his quirky style he reported the same information from video cards as well. If you can’t find that video, then I’ll post a link when I get back to the house.

Agreed. Great detective work!

I don't actually when the transition will occur. Probably best to assume that cards shipping as of now will all be LHR until we hear differently from an official source.

Technically speaking you will notice it, as in you will be notified of change. Reason will be legal, as you signed up for one item and received another.

But I do think same way that lhr will be just dump directly into supply chain and will be shipped to customers.

Re: EVGA Queue Summary 2021/06/07 08:49:09 (permalink)
So yesterday the enewts drove about an hour away for a scrimmage for my daughter’s soccer team. When we arrived we realized that we were one of three teams that showed up to the field for the match…a bit of a scheduling snafu. Short story, long…our team was left to run some drills for about an hour before calling it and heading home. Not sure why I am reciting this except that it reminded me of a bunch of folks here who last Thursday woke up early, hit the caffeine hard and prepared to F5 their way into gaming Valhalla…and then never truly got the opportunity until the servers stabilized almost two hours later.

Yesterday was a reminder that we cannot always control our destiny, but we can control in some small measure our reactions to it. My daughter could have considered the whole day wrecked, I could have been bitter about having to wake up well before this amphibian typically wakes on the weekend (if given the choice), and my wife…well she’s the one that keeps the rest of us tails in order. So we regrouped and made a day of it, getting lost in unfamiliar streets until hours later when it was time for lunch and I had “mysteriously” guided the family to a burger joint whose account I had been watching on Instagram for the last nine months but have never tried out. The fries were fantastic, the burgers a very solid 8.5. But the day…the day was supurb...because we chose to work at it and make it so.

I hope that despite the frustration, angst and inconvenience that this darn 2020-2021 Tech Launch Debacle™ (© NVIDIA 2020-2024) is causing you, you find something that mitigates its harm, that lightens your load, that otherwise helps with your watch.

Today is Monday. And we go again….

Best of luck!

What this means is a 3080 without LHR is worth much more to a miner than a 3080 Ti is.

Ain't that the truth. Been lurking around these parts for a while, and what you're doing here for all of us is appreciated from this older guy yelling at the kids to get off his lawn. Here's hoping there were big gaps between 7:27am and 8:11am when the site finally stabilized for me in search of a 3967. Grats to all who got in before, I am not at all salty about it...

Well, let's cross our fingers that we get some good movement this week. Hopefully the 7:30-7:40 block on the 3967 is actually a website-down-ghost-town and not just under-reported because of automatons breaking through. On the other hand it could get frustrating if we get our hopes up with a quick jump to the 7:40 area then stall out for a few weeks trying to get to 7:45. Good luck all.

We have about the same queue time! I'm thinking when the site really started getting hit around 7:30 theres a relatively large gap where no one was able to queue. Although I have seen reports of people queued for about 7:40 ish so maybe that's not the case but who knows.

This post right here has given me such hope you don't even know! haha.  Maybe it's wishful thinking but would be such a wonderful thing if there were a huge decrease in the amount of people that got through while site was failing

I miss the days when I was a kid being yelled at.  Now it is my daughter yelling at me....
