Ok, backdate your driver to 350.12 and see if it stops. 352.xx and 353.xx are both really bad drivers. The driver and precision together may be conflicting.

It will only take about 30 minutes of r so of testing, but it will be worth it. I am still on 347.88 and have no issues from the driver or the precision overlay, but I don't use any video tools on my computer, so no VLC to test it.

I have a 980 Ti, so I can only use the more recent drivers.

I should have asked that... Lol. Give it time then.. Remove precision until NVidia reworks the drivers and then give it another shot.

Another possible workaround to try:

=====================================
- Click "OSD" to temporarily turn it on
- Find the new "Server" icon in your system tray, and double click it to open it
- Use the "Add" button, to add all of your game/application's executables to this "OSD Exclusion list"
- Click OK to close the "Server" window
- Click "OSD" to turn it back off again
- Exit Precision X, and then re-open it
- Test to see if your game/application works now without OSD making it misbehave

EVGATech_Jacob.  I can only get 5.3.5 and 5.3.3.5 (linked by Vince) to control 2 GPUs at a time, even while linked.  It will never fully adjust a third GPU.  I did test it with 4.2.1 and it is able to fully adjust all GPUs simultaneously.

OSD is also interfering with playing videos inside the XBox app, and interfering with other content inside that app, making the app crash.

When will this be fixed? OSD set to OFF, should mean "stop interfering with my processes"!!! This has been a showstopper bug since launch, and it really seems you don't give a crap about it at all.

I'm nearly to the point of giving up, and finding a different program that doesn't interfere like Precision X does. I've been a huge supporter of your software, but your priority to ignore showstopping bugs is incompatible with me enjoying my system.

Please fix this already.

Edit: Yep, I'm officially moving to MSI Afterburner, until EVGA can get their Precision X OSD to not interfere with applications when it is set to OFF! I'm equally concerned about other issues, such as the Precision X "Small LCD Font" issue where a forthcoming fix was lied about, and fan hysteresis not working, and the Precision X crashing after running for a few days, and how "Auto fan" isn't remembered after that crash such that in endangers my GPUs when they work on distributed computing projects..... But this OSD interference showstopper bug is too much to bear. I am so frustrated right now. I will check up on new versions of Precision X, but my confidence has been shaken and broken.

Re: EVGA PrecisionX 5.3.5 - DX12 OSD Support! 2015/06/15 06:18:40 (permalink)
After I went to bed, but before I fell to sleep, I realized I wanted to do another test. I'm glad I did. It confirmed my suspicion.

Basically, my main workaround to get Precision X OSD to stop interfering with all processes while OFF, was to add the app/game to the OSD exclusion list. But I've also confirmed that, in the Monitoring settings, if you make sure that NO SETTING is set for On Screen Display... then the "Server" executables won't even run, and your processes will not be interfered with, globally. So, assuming the user doesn't want/need/use OSD, ensuring that no Monitoring settings are set for On Screen Display, is a better workaround toward preventing the interference, globally, for all apps/games.

However, because of all the other issues I listed, which have been ignored... I'm still going to stick with MSI Afterburner until Precision X is as good as it was in v4.2.1.

Thanks,
Jacob

This version and the last few before it, will crash csgo back to the desktop and csgo will indicate an engine error. This will happen once you attempt to launch a match. It's fine at the menu but once it has found a game and it goes to the loading screen, back to the desktop we go with an unrecoverable csgo. It does this with OSD disabled as well.

Have you tried going into the monitoring preferences, and for every single item, disabling "Show on OSD" for every single one? If you do that, then Task Manager should show that the "server" executables don't even load. Then see if your game works properly. I'm very curious what your result will be - let us know.

I am not able to save any of the OSD Display Settings keys (Toggle, Show, Hide). They revert back to blank as soon as I close the OSD menu.

Wow. That clearly wasn't tested very well. I hope they work to fix that.
But I think I found a workaround for you -- type the letter you want, then hit the Enter key. That apparently will commit/save the value.

Look around the forums at 353.06.. Precision isn't the problem, the driver is.  I am using this build, and have issues, but it isn't affecting CSGO at all.  All of my issues are overclocking and RGB control related.

Read up on drivers before you update to them and you will avoid this issue.  Go into control panel, and remove everything from NVidia and go back to 350.12 and you will see a night and day difference. It has been advised for over a month to avoid 352 and 353 drivers.

I did not try that, but reading through other posts I saw the suggestion to add csgo.exe to the server's exclusion list while OSD is still enabled and then disable the OSD again. That solution is working for me.

Before reading that I was just disabling the OSD without adding csgo to the exclusion list and the engine error was still occurring.
Your suggestion seems better though, it will avoid any conflicts the OSD may cause with other software.

On a side note that exclusion list should probably be labeled as such.

Re: EVGA PrecisionX 5.3.5 - DX12 OSD Support! 2015/06/19 20:53:56 (permalink)
I'm glad it helped!

I have been requesting for "OSD Off" to actually turn off the server executables, ever since Precision X 16 was released, because it causes so many problems for my apps and games. The developers don't seem to care, though, sadly. I've even suggested numerous times that the exclusion list needs to be better-labeled. I bet they hate my posts; that's the impression I get, anyway.

So, yeah, the best workaround I'm recommending now is to make sure that no single OSD option is turned on in any of the items in the dropdown within the Monitoring section, and then confirm via Task Manager that the "Server" executables (which interfere/break processes!) are never started when Precision X is started. Fun.

In fact, I've moved to MSI Afterburner permanently, for better LCD Keyboard support (Precision X "Small" doesn't work!), and for less bugs.

Regards,
Jacob

Is it possible to have a reset button to initialize the monitor. If a do a test for my overclock i will like to have a button to reset the maximum value so it will be possible to know the maximum value reach for that test. Right now if the value is below the max value it will be not possible to read it. I have to close and reopen EVGA precision X to initialize those values and start my test.

If you want to save a profile profile, set up a profile and save it before the test.  If the test fails, revert back tot he last saved profile, or use a pen and paper to write it down.  Writing it down gives you the opportunity to physically write down if the test fails, so you know when and what happened. If you can't take the time to do that, then just save a profile, and if it fails, delete it.

If you want to reset to the defaults, click default.

If none of those three are what you are referring to, then you really need to clarify what you are asking for.

it is not a profile problem. When you do a test the monitor windows will kept the last highest value. A reset button to initialize to desktop value. So when I do a test I will be able to read the highest value obtain for that test.

Was there at one time a way to use this program to change the way the LED looked on EVGA graphics cards?

Only with the K|ngp|n cards, as far as I know.  EVGA LED controller was the only other thing I can think of, and that was more for the bridge and the NVidia logo on reference cards. There weren't LED's on previous ACX cards.  The 900 Series introduced LEDs onto the ACX coolers.

If you open the NVIDIA GeForce Experience software, on the "My Rig" tab, there is a "LED Visualizer" tab that has a "Configure LED Visualizer" button. I don't have the right hardware to see what it does, but maybe that can help you? My apologies if it doesn't.

You do Not need GFE for the LED Visualizer.  Use NVidia Inspector instead.  It has the LED controller feature installed.  It is a much less intrusive program.

Since I installed my new EVGA GTX980Ti SC, EVGA Precision X16 send me a message at load that the skin was not able to be applied. I had to start manually precision that load normally. What I see is
EVGA precision X16 at front page (between the arrow) tell me that I have a GTX980 Ti ! Suddenly it tell me that I have EVGA precision X16 ! what going on ?

I understand the skin failed part, but the rest doesn't make sense.  What are you trying to say?

If you just installed a card, which we can see you have two installed (probably for PhysX I assume), you should uninstall and do a fresh install of drivers and precision.

If you are trying to use the 640 as a PhysX card, I suggest removing it, as it is only going to drag the 980ti down to its inferior level and beat it to death.  Your 980ti will handle all workloads perfectly on it's own.

My system work perfectly well with my gt640 for PhysX. All the test that I did that have PhysX make my gtx980ti had high frame rate. I did a test without the gt640 and the frame rate was lower for my gtx980ti. In Metro last light benchmark gtx980ti reach 99% and my gt640 84%. My gt640 are set in my pcie x4 slot not the main x16 slot. It just that in precision instead of having precision x 16 I have gtx980ti ! where it come from because I doesn't change anything in the skin ?

I will repeated, I need a reset button to initialize the monitor between each test. When I do a test or I am in game I will like to know the max value for that apps. It kept the last highest value so I don't know what I reach for the max next value. I have to close precision and open again to reset those value. Not practical.

I am having similar issues as well. I can't even select what to display on the OSD.

I think version 5.3.2 is much better compared to the latest one. I will use this till EVGA fixes all the bugs with version 5.3.5

I am having similar issues as well. I can't even select what to display on the OSD.

As I said...
I found a workaround for you -- type the letter you want, then hit the Enter key. That apparently will commit/save the value.
And I think you might have to have OSD turned on, in order to enable the monitoring elements.
It's ... not intuitive at all.

I tried what you said and it works. However, the OSD fails to show up during gaming or benchmarking. The 5.3.2 version works perfectly for me with no issues. I think I will stay with that for now.
