Hello, folks.

For quite a while now, my EVGA Precision X has not been starting up when windows starts up, so in order to get my fan working on my NVidia GTX690 I have to manually load up the Precision X (so it still works, it's just a bit inconvenient that it doesn't start up straight away. Especially when I forget to turn it on and then it starts to heat up.) In addition to this, when I click the little 'x' to close the window, I get an error message pop-up stating "RTTSH.dll::AddTask failed with error code -22!" Now, even though that error pops up nothing happens (the fan still continues working and everything keeps on functioning, but it's more than a little concerning that this happens.

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix these two issues, or if the two are related? I haven't changed anything with the programme, so the start-up with Windows option is still on, and I haven't disabled it from starting up with Windows in the main Windows start-up options. I'm also running the 4.2.1.2143 version.

Thanks.

    1) Uninstall Precision X and select NOT to save Precision profiles when uninstalling.  Restart your computer.  When installing precision, right-click the install file and install as administrator.  After it is installed, start it up for the first time as administrator by right-clicking the precision program and run as administrator.  Then try to add the task.

    2) Check your windows event log. Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

Look for windows task scheduler errors in the windows event log. Compare them to the following errors.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com...aa383604(v=vs.85).aspx

    3) Make sure windows task scheduler service is running. Windows key (on keyboard) + R key > type services.msc > ok

    Is 'Task Scheduler' status 'running'?

Hello there. Thanks for the swift reply.

I have done as you say but the error still pops up. When looking for Task Scheduler, it states that it is 'Disabled'.

There you go.  Did you disable it?  If not, do you have some sort of system software running which is "optimizing" your computer and disabling services without your consent?  You really should find out why / what disabled that service.  But in the mean time, you can double-click that task and set startup type to automatic and click apply and ok.  But if you don't know what disabled that service in the first place, whatever is hijacking your computer will probably hijack it again and disable the service again.

I never disabled it, no. I'm not aware of any software running which would be optimizing my computer; I don't believe I have installed anything of that ilk. When I try and double-click the task and re-assign it's startup type it is simply greyed out, and does not let me change it.

If you can't start the service, that means a service it is dependent on is not running / failed.

In Task Scheduler properties, click on "Dependencies" tab.  Make sure all dependency services listed are running.

    Windows 8:

You will just have to go backwards through the service's dependencies to locate the problem.  Some service higher up the chain has been stopped for some reason or has failed.

Have you checked your Windows Event Log to see which errors are listed?

Yeah, I checked all those out. The ones it lists on mine have all started and seem to be running.
