Building my next gaming PC. I love how cool Asus' boards are, but I have an Asus Max VII Formula ($300 in 2014) and the audio died on it. Bought one of their monitors and it was DOA and so was its replacement. Hear lots of bad stuff about Asus and their customer service.

Was gonna do 3950X + Asus Crosshair, but am not considering the new 10-core i9-10900K with an EVGA board.

Thoughts?

Gaming. Don't want to discuss how the 3950X is overkill lol :) :)

I need a rock-solid, long-lasting build with amazing drivers and support.

If you get a good one, ASUS products can be very good, but should you have any issues whatsoever, you're pretty much screwed, even if you're willing to battle for months with their 'service' people and get nowhere for the effort. EVGA on the other hand are known throughout the industry for their premium service - they stand behind their product, as long as you're honest and don't try to pull one over on them.

As far as motherboards go, both put out a good product (notwithstanding the service issue above), but one thing I noticed straight away is that EVGA's PCB is significantly stronger - the ASUS boards are pretty thin in comparison, and the amount of flex in them is scary, which could easily lead to breakage. EVGA tend to use high quality components etc., and of course their help support is awesome too. ASUS you probably wont get an answer. This is all based on personal experience.

Having said that, I'm using an ASUS mobo myself right now and have had no issues. ..touch wood.

That's what I thought!!!

Would love the beastly 3950X for an insane build, but a future 10900K + EVGA FTW or Dark board is where it's at and still plenty insane.

I LOATHE bad customer service!!!!

EVGA FTW indeed :P

I would like to note that there hasn't been a driver update for the dark z390 since the board was released and it shows. I'd go with asus between the 2 honestly, due to the bios support. As far as daily use goes the dark is not the board for that.

The future Intel LGA socket that will be used for the mainstream platform and compatible with the 10th generation lineup will be the LGA 1200... I had Asus AMD boards in the past and always satisfied with them but since i've got my current rig that you see in my signature it's completely another world ! EVGA brings us a genuine and high rate support as well as for bios release and software drivers than for components returns and repair service
I'm obliged to recommend you to buy an EVGA motherboard for your next purchase !!

Having owned both; Asus boards have more features, but their customer service is non-existent (which is the reason I will never have an another Asus product, or Gigabyte either for the same reason), the evga boards are better quality, and the customer service is quite good.

personally I am probably going back to asrock for my next go around. same parent company as asus but I got my recent rma back in about a week. The OC formulas are seemingly retired but I haven't heard a bad thing about the taichi

Not to nitpick but technically yes there has been one bios update for the Dark. The board was released in Jan., and the bios update was issues in Sept.

Yeah, I agree. An ASUS board is great, has a ton of features, and has good BIOS, and in my personal opinion look better overall, but Customer support is basically nonexistent. I've never used an EVGA mobo, but based on their support for GPUs if you have a problem, you can count on them to get it fixed. I've never had the bad luck of hitting a bad ASUS mobo, even after building 5 PCs with their boards, but if you do, from what I've heard, they aren't going to respond.

I have been using nothing but EVGA motherboards since their Nforce 680 board.
Never had an issue, so have been sticking with them.

I have four BIOS for my Dark (including the XOC). Currently have 1.03 and 1.07 along with 0.00 (XOC) installed.

bios was more of a mistype. I was mostly talking about drivers, since it's the first thing I stated... As I have been fighting onboard sound , bluetooth, and occasional internet quirks since I got this thing at launch.
