What's the status on signing up twice for KingPins?  I know some of you are trying it and some have tried it (without success).   I don't mind waiting 3-6 months to get one... just curious before it goes open to the general public.

So far no success unless folks have gamed the system with multiple email accounts, payment methods and shipping addresses. I am not recommending that, by the way.

Hah! My wife is a gamer too.. yeah.. that's it.  :)

For real though, she was impressed with the KingPin box when it arrived (finally!) yesterday.  Good luck all.

Not sure if there is a better thread for this but is any one on here good with auto cad and do a accurate drawing of the back cover plate. And or the pcb hole lay out i have access to a cnc mill and some copper buss bars but i suck at auto cad been almost 20 years since i messed with it. I did get my card so i will use it to test fit a custom copper back plate and if that works out try to make a front and back water block...Need a little help with accurate measurements and a drawing that will play nice with a cnc mill. After that i can make adjustments and figure out heights. Do we know if ek or and of the other are actually working on one for the kingpin yet?

Only 100% confirmed block that is definitely coming for the Kingpin specifically I think is eVGA's HydroCopper "some day" - I think EK said they are working on one, but with how small demand would be for one, I don't know how limited their run will be.

I'm more interested in someone making a block that cools the BACK of the card - the Hybrid cooler really does a pretty darn good job cooling the face-side, especially if you're willing to take it apart, put better paste & pads on it, which I have not done because I'm too scurd & don't want to deal with cleaning off the puddy on the VRMs.
So far my experiments, combined with other's information, in the back-side cooling thread have netted some pretty nice results.  I'll be doing the "next phase" tonight now that I have enough heatsinks to literally cover the entire back of my card, if I wanted to.

Yeah The hydro copper is the only one you can bank on, but anyone's guess when. Optimus has said they are in prototype stages but the design of where the nvlink being right next to other components has been slowing them down engineering around that. They were saying would be quicker if they skipped nvlink support... but said they are trying to keep that available. I would go optimus even at the crazy premium if they were available though.

Well on the heatsink front, for those interested, much progress has been made.

Original temps vs first round temps, and the last image is my latest results... ambient on the last run was controlled at 70.3-70.7F:

Here's the before & after for PR Stress Test:

Latest:

Note that is Port Royal's Stress Test, takes around 36 minutes so it's a pretty long, sustained workload, AKA a gaming-like temperature test.

And how it looks, not so bad:

TLDR: If you want to knock 5-10+C off your load temps, a simple ~$60 investment in thermal pads for between the Backplate & PCB, then some heatsinks with thermal pads under them, can get you that.  The higher your base/starting temps are, the more dramatic the temperature drops will be, is my guess, but I have no way of testing that because my card ran so cool to begin with.

Do you need to disassemble the entire card to do this? Or does the backplate come off independently?

Nope and I doubt we will see any drops this week.  I'm thinking first or second week in March.  But I hope I'm wrong.

Assuming they have 3060 stock on hand, tomorrow will likely be all 3060 units all the time. I wouldn't be surprised to see EVGA Shipping pause the announcement of other cards (at least for the morning, but possibly all day) just so that they can get as many 3060 units out tomorrow as possible. As a reminder, the 3060 card is supposed to launch tomorrow morning.  All of that is to say that mech9t5 is probably not too far off; I doubt the KPE will drop this week.

And also the fact that the EVGA website maybe overwhelmed and "locked down" due to the people trying to get in the queue for the 3060 tomorrow at 9 am PST.

Do you need to disassemble the entire card to do this? Or does the backplate come off independently?

The backplate can be removed by just removing something like 13 screws, the card does not have to fully come apart to do it - it's pretty simple, but you do have to use some force to get it to come off the first time because the stock thermal pads are quite stick, and in the case of the Kingpin, there's a stupid plastic/rubber sticky pad towards the power ports of the card (I ended up taking it off last night because I was tired of it making the disassembly more difficult).
I'd say if you're used to taking stuff apart, it's like a 20-30 minute job taking your time.  Cutting the thermal pads to size, if you're going the route of adding pads/replacing the existing pads under the backplate, and then placing them on the card, is the part that takes the longest.

What's everyone doing for PCIe 4.0 riser cables? I ordered the EK vertical mount and the Louqe 4.0 riser (due to the pretty terrible and inconsistent reviews on the Linkup risers.

Hate the blue color of the cable but hoping to hide it.

Problem is the Louqe is a straight, not right angle, on the GPU side and the EK mount's bottom side is covered. While it does have the back side open to run the cable through it's gonna be a really tight 90 degree bend and I'm afraid of the pins (which are exposed) touching the metal after seeing the NZXT debacle on GN.

The EK mount is also crazy study and not cheap aluminum. I don't have a dremel to cut the bottom out to run it up there nicely but I suppose that is an option. Really wish Louqe offered a right angle connector

Probably should make a new thread..

Where did you read the inconsistent and bad reviews for Linkup risers? I was thinking of buying one as well.

Not only the different product pages on amazon depending whether you need straight, left, or right angle but some other tech forums as well. The issue is a lot of people seem to be using them okay but there's more than enough essentially saying they're total junk.

Amazon review's (fractured too due to different "parts")
LTT Forums
Reddit

While these are people like you and me, there's enough to make one pause and wonder. 4.0 risers are hard to come by and options are limited

Any other benefits (higher OC, etc.), besides temperature improvements?

I've been messing with it so much that I haven't attempted higher clocks yet - to be honest, because the face side of the card is still entirely stock, I don't expect it to clock much better, unless the backside memory temps were holding me back before.

And I should correct the post in this quote, it is NINE (9) screws to remove the backplate, not 13.

What's everyone doing for PCIe 4.0 riser cables? I ordered the EK vertical mount and the Louqe 4.0 riser (due to the pretty terrible and inconsistent reviews on the Linkup risers.

Where did you read the inconsistent and bad reviews for Linkup risers? I was thinking of buying one as well.

I think I'm just going to notch the bottom of the EK mount off. It won't affect it's ability to mount the GPU nor affect it's rigidity. The thing is strong and stable and honestly, I can't see why EK wouldn't do it from the get go.

Notching between the posts still allows for a right angle connector down the road and again won't affect the structure because you'd still have half the bottom, the side, and the top which will give it plenty of strength.

I hope that will work for you.

The thing is, the issue that I have is that I have a pcie sound card and I cannot find a vertical mount that will accommodate the sound card.  The EK is a 6 slot vertical mount.  The most promising that I found is the Bitspower, which is a 5 slot vertical mount.  Maybe this will work.  Bitspower customer service told me that the riser cable that comes with the vertical mount is not compatible with the 3090.

Good on them for being upfront and honest. The Louqe cable is flexible and thin. Much more so than I anticipated even after reading reviews that said that about it. I really only dislike the fact it's got a straight connector on it and the hideous blue which ideally can be hidden.

Wouldn't it be lovely if EVGA surprised us with a KINGPIN drop today...or news about the HCs?  I gamer can dream, right?

In reality, I think we are likely looking at next week at the earliest for news on either front. I so sincerely hope I am wrong.
