Very odd. I mean, I switched names so I guess that put me at zero. But since then I also don't gain post counts and I can't see any post history in my profile (and obviously I have a post hx because my posts are here).

It just ticked up one! Yay!

Maybe it starts after ten posts or something.

I thought it worth mentioning that the 3080 and 3090 FTW3 Ultras I have here are around a 16% performance difference on Port Royal with their max overclocks using the XOC bios. I can't compare other 3DMark benchmarks because the 3080 is running on my old CPU (i7 - 6850K).

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a breakthrough. I managed for the first time to break the 450W barrier with my setup.
In civilization 6 I managed to get up to 480W sustained during gameplay!

MSI AB
Core voltage +100%
Core clock + 75Mhz
Memory Clock +250Mhz
Power limit 119%
Temp limit 91 Deg C

From GPUz (I cannot attach files right now as the forum is crashing for me)

Temp 68 deg C
Board power draw 480.7W
CPU Chip power 326.3W
PCI Slot power 83W
8pin #1 124.6W
8pin #2 129.8W
8pin #3 150.0W
TDP 114.4%
Pwr limit

This is the first time I ever made it past 450W, hence it is not HW bound for me (PSU, connectors etc) for my setup.

Adding on:
The only thing I did now was opening the windows and creating a draft with ambient on 17 degrees. Could it in fact be thermals impacting ?

Timespy now 21143 as gpu score and 20238 combined, position 91 hall of fame.
Peaked 451.8W

Firestrike Ultra now physics 32 646, graphics 13 299 combined 7618, total score 13492, position 55 in hall of fame.
Peaked 440.8W

Superposition 17927 in score, number 22 in hall of fame.
Peaked 423.9W (26 deg start, 55 deg finish) - with water cooling this will rock. Sustained 2050Mhz this round.

If only power to 500W would work as well in these tests ....

So this to me still only reinforces this super bizarre ratio between max power draw and the pcie slot. I don’t thinks it’s a coincidence that you hit your highest total board draw when your pcie slot also hit what is most likely it’s highest draw at 83 watts. This ratio of 1:1.67 between the slot and the pins holds up. 83:139, which is 83+139+139+139=500. By the way, 83w is 11% higher than the rated max for the pcie slot of 75w. Not sure how safe that is. But I say this all to say that it seems like evga needs to either release a firmware or bios update that reworks this ratio, or acknowledge if it’s a hardware constraint in fixable via software.

Ok.
We got some info.
1. Clearly Resolution and power supply don't matter. I'm on 1080p (I know you guys must think I'm nuts, but I like 182 and higher fps always with everything maxed)
2. And power supply don't matter.. 1600 or my 850...
3. and CLEARLY the HW is capable of over 450. Plus my info shows I get 78 from the pci-e so its not hard limited to 75 with this bios.
4. I'm getting the same results as far as game ready overclock 14420-14550 for my game stable. Unless RTX - So for metro exodus I gotta drop to 105 clock.
However
5. My record score (which is maybe the highest for a bone stock card) is totally unobtainable again with this new bios, but my game stable one is about the same in practice.

So....
Zogge claims a 480w pull on Civ and I don't have anything like that. Never once (with either bios) have I pulled more then 447 and usually its 424-436.
If yall look at my previous post I'm power limited. I'd love to have a 15000 Game stable bios. And I'm not temp limited atm either.

Lets figure this out...

It is reproducable. If you open Civ 6 dx12 and play it, then in the scenes when you contact someone from another nation the card goes over 450W every time. It stays between 450-485W for me all the time and the boost is on 2040-2100 Mhz during this time.

I have a new record on pin 3 which is at 154.7W now and pci slot power maxed at 82.4W with a total of 484.8W during this gameplay. pin 1 & 2 are less reluctant to spike, they stay at 122.9W and 129.3W. The same seen in all other tests, it is pin 3 that seem to spike whenever you swap character you talk with ingame.

I will now swap pin 1 & 3 on the card to see if it is connected to PSU somehow.

Added:
Ok here we go, pin 1 & 3 swapped on the inputs but it is still the same distribution.
Peaks total 479.6W, pci slot power 84.7W, pin 1 125.9W, pin 2 131.6W, pin 3 152.2W. 2130Mhz peak speed, hoover between 1950 to 2025 during gameplay. Temp 61 degrees.

I noticed something similar. My PSU had 6 vga modules. I went from 4,5,6 to 1,2,3. Seems like one power pin is very frequently 20w below other 2. Even when comparing peak values and regardless of PSU slot I’m using.

if i recall correctly the pin 1 is in a relationship with the pcie 75w and its pinned to a particular ratio. The other cards arnt having nearly the same issues as the EVGA FTW3 is the most locked down card of them all even more than Nvidia's own FE card.

Also the 480w Asus bios doesnt work on the FTW3 either even tho it works on all the other 3pin cards... this is more complex than you realize.

Does anyone have any idea why I'm getting this error when trying to install this bios version? I have a 3090 FTW3 ULTRA and made sure everything was closed and running as admin.

true and with multiple AIB cards in the lab I am seeing the same data.

Would not be hardware related..., Doing the math, some would be pulling enough from the pcie slot to blow caps, haven't heard of any mobos dying yet

At what wattage through the pcie slot are you talking about physical damage? 130w+?

Evga/Jacob please confirm if the pcie ratio can be changed via bios flash or if it’s hardware locked, we need to know if our cards are about to devalue or not. It would also help if vendors were more open about about how their cards are locked down before we purchase them

Then i was like wait, Zedville i recognize that name

Nice score! As much complaining as we are doing in this thread i have to admit these evga cards have a lot of representation on the leaderboards

Yea i noticed that when i looked at it again. Usually when ppl hang around the evga board they have evga cards so i just assumed

Now im guessing he has a 3pin card with asus bios and wants to upgrade to 500w bios

I have multiple 3090's in the lab including the 3090 FTW3 Ultra here... So far my fav is probably the FE for the novelty and die.

This is a higher score with the EVGA card
https://www.3dmark.com/fs/23831665
FSU 14238

Should be a HOF top 10
I don't have the bench online much...

I am going to take a shot in the dark here and say there is nothing to fix. The global power limit has been raised to allow for the card to pull 500W max. But that is just one power limit. The card also has other internal power limits and I am doubting the XOC bios can even change them(or if it can, they won't). And it seems like thoes are the power limits are getting PL LIMIT before the card hits the 500W limit. As for why some cards can get closer to the 500W than others? It is likely a silicon lottery type situation where some cards will use less power (voltage) in certain loads, so the card can push itself more and it will get closer to the global 500W limit. And as for why some other 3pin cards are able to get to the 500W limit easier? That could be sooo many reason since they are different cards. Likely hardware reasons. With more data with may be able to sus out why. There are some good takes in this thread.

One bug, or two actually, that I have noticed with this new beta bios, is that the card will sometimes stop reporting certain values. Voltage for instance, will report as 0.000 volts if nothing is happening on the card. Like if windows is idling on the desktop, the card will stop reporting voltage. The fans as well seem to jump around more erratically on the auto fan curve. Not sure if others are noticing this? It never happened on the stock vbios.

I wonder if people are getting more consistent performance on EVGA mobos with these cards (FYI: My 3080 FTW3 Ultra also saw no performance improvement from the XOC drivers for the 3080 FTW3 Ultra).

Latchback

If this is so, then these chips would be capable of more if they weren't crippled by someone along the design chain. If that is true then I guess we get to buy a future unlocked version in a year or two. lol

What makes this frustrating is that RTX could benefit from like another 20-30fps to bring it up to 110-120fps. I guess it will be another generation or possible two until 144 fps is solid on RTX at 4k. Non-RTX games run great though, and allow the cards to be overclocked harder. Not sure why I have to have two separate OCs depending on RTX vs. non-RTX. There must be significant differences in terms of layout and tech in the branch pathways.

Storm moving in tonight with 16 f temp and 3" of snow, on Tuesday clearing and 4 For temp. I've seen the card peak now at 488.8 watts. When I open  garage door at 4 f on Tuesday it will be interesting to see what that does to new bios.
