Hello all!
Few days ago i was testing my new videocard in War Thuder game(settings in game was on high) + Msi Afterburner to trace temp of card.
I saw the following - card temperature was 80-81 degree with fan speed at 49%.

The question arises - that is normal, that card heated up to 80 degrees? Or i have some issues with it?
P.S I don't use overclocking.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums!

While that's a little high, it's still within the safe range for the card. How's the airflow in your case? Does your motherboard have a sensor that reads the ambient case temps? How warm is your room?

How's the airflow in your case?
  • I have opened side panel of box.
Does your motherboard have a sensor that reads the ambient case temps?
  • Yes (ASRock Fatal1ty performance p67)
How warm is your room?
  •  22 to 25 degrees
I uploaded screenshoot from AIDA with temps of motherboard in load.

It looks like your board is pretty cool, and your idle temps on the GPU are good. I've seen the cards hit 77°C running OCScanner, so you should be ok. You don't have anything in the slot next to the card?  What's the clock speeds reading on the card under load? If the card's boosting high, that can raise the temps.

No, just card and nothing close to it. I will add screenshoot from FurMark to see clock speeds, but there i can't see temp, it stuck at 55 degrees. In MSI Afterburner which runs in background i saw temp 82 max!

And i'll add graphic from MSI Afterburner when game is running for a while.

Usually it's good to keep the card below 80C, like a rule of thumb. But there can be exceptions to that rule and if you're card is only 1-3C over that then it's not cause for concern. Obviously if it was 87C then that would strike me as a bad.

One thing you could do though is add another case fan. ACX models pull air from the case and blow it back into the case. So if your case air doesn't circulate then overtime the air inside the case will get warmer and then the card will be pulling warmer air then room temp. So it's definitely important to have a 'in fan' and an 'out fan' in the case. Otherwise the air inside the case just heats up and the inside becomes a furnace.

You could also set a fan curve if you haven't already. Yes this will make the card louder, but if you're worried about temps then the fan curve could keep the card below 80C. I believe Afterburner has the capability to set one and you will just need to play around with that.

If you have any questions let me know.

11.04 UPDATE: I decided to change thermal paste by myself. When i saw what was between GPU and Heatsink i was shocked "It"(thermal paste) looks like white water, very liquid and all GPU and near space was in it. I cleaned all GPU, Heatsink, changed thermal paste to normal one. And now, results - 57 degrees in War Thunder game, same situation, same settings.

Thanks all for yours advices! Maybe ill try use warranty for changing thermal paste
If nothingh happens, maybe shop, where i buy my card will change it to another one

It sounds like that metal thermal paste, that is metal and watery looking.
Its supposed to be much better than the thermal paste now (except its electrically conductive).
Wierd, the 900 series has the thin paste that lasts about a year to 2 years, at least both of mine did.

My two 960s are going on 2 years of use, and the temps are fine. I've been running a default aggressive fan curve, and they hardly go over 65°C.
