Hi there.

I just got my shiny new 750 ti ftw.
I upgraded from a evga gtx 650 ti ssc which was quite silent.
Now, this fine piece of hardware is unbelievably loud compared to my "old" one.
The minimum Fanspeed i can chose on EVGA Precision is 42% !?!?
In idle it runs on about 26°C and doesnt need 42% Fanspeed at all.
Will there ever be a Bios Update to lower it?
I really dont wanna switch to another card, but in idle, this is way too loud :/

    Same issue here.

But my card is only at 23°C.
My old 260GTX got hot as hell (80+°C), but at least it was silent in Desktop mode.

I am totally happy with the performance, but I don't really need such a high turning fan when the chip is as cool as my room.
I think 10-20% fanspeed should be totally okay as minimum when the chip temperature is that low.

If I really want to overclock to the max, or overclock at all, I can accept having a noisy fan, but if I don't overclock or play a game at all
(Desktop) I really don't need to have such noisy fans.

    Hey mate.

I'm glad, i'm not the only one with that issue.
Yeah, when I overclock or even game (with my headset on) I don't care about the noise,
but please -  in Desktop-mode with 135mhz there's no need for such a loud noise.  -_-

Wow, you guys are scaring me. I bought an EVGA GTX 750 SC and now I fear it will be noisy when idle or doing regular tasks.

Will this probably be the case with my card or not? Why do you say so?

I don't know. You've got the one with the Single-Fan design so I guess it wont be that noisy.
On the other hand,  42% Fanspeed on a single-Fan in idle-mode wouldnt be that silent either.
My GTX 650 TI ssc ran @ 20% Fanspeed on a Single fan and was almost silent.
Would be awesome If u could give us some information on your lowest Fanspeed when you get your card.

I wouldn't know how to calculate that. If you can tell me how, sure. Mine comes on Monday.

On the bright side, your PC will run cooler with two fans compared to the singular fan mine will have.

Just install EVGA Precision X. Cant insert a link here, so just google it =)
I dont think that it does much of a difference.
I'm sitting here, with my Headphones on, watching TV on another screen
and i can hear the fans !!  :/

Just wondering, with 1/2 the number of fans, will mine also make half the sound at the same rotation speed?

I have the 750 ti FTW and I am having the same issue. The default minimum for the fan speed is 42%, and you cannot make it lower in Precision X  . Mine runs at 26 C with that setting.
I remember EVGA releasing a fix for one of the former models to reduce the default fan speed, I am hoping they will do it for this card, too.
    Maybe we should simply ask-

And I agree, I am surprised with the performance of the card.

We have a new BIOS update that reduces the fan noise while the system is idle. Please note that the minimum is still 42% (even though the fanspeed is reduced)

This update will be applied on cards going forward.

Any future plans to set the minimum lower than 42%?

Unfortunately it is not possible the lower the percentage number, but keep in mind that number is not really tied to any indication of how loud a card is... EX: 42% on one card may be a different RPM than on another one.

Of course you are right :)
Maybe there will be another Bios-Update in the future, since with the new RPM-Settings it still runs on about 25°C !?
I see some possibility to get it even more silent than it is now.
But dont get me wrong. Its wayyy better than before :) Ty again.

Do you have to uninstall the Nvidia Display Driver like it says before installing the firmware update?  I cancelled out when I saw this because I was not sure.

Yes, you have to, otherwise it fails.
    Uninstall all NVidia drivers
    Restart
    Run the bios file
    Restart
    Install drivers.
    Magic happens.

So I ran this BIOS update and it is still pretty loud. I am coming from an EVGA 8800GTS and that fan was dead silent when not gaming and thats a blower style card. Any ideas to get this thing even lower?

After the update that is the lowest fanspeed that the fans can operate at physically.

    Bummer :(
How do I know if the BIOS update succeeded? When I run the command it gets to the step after "Storing" then just disappears. it goes to quick to tell but I gather it then goes to a step that says "Verifying" then it closes. Does that mean it was successful?

I went through uninstall programs and uninstalled all Nvidia driver then restarted. I want to make sure I did it right before I call it quits and RMA.

Edit: I'm gonna keep the card and hope for some sort of magic to be done on EVGA's end. Maybe have the fans shut off when it's idle? Having it run at 42% when it is idling at 25 degrees is a bit much in my opinion. Wish I could set up that fan profile!

Is there any chance I can lower my idle fan speed from 40% to perhaps 36%? In the afternoons it is fine but at night I can hear the humming just a bit. Would prefer it to not be there. GTX 750 SC

Well I could not stand it. I removed the stupid "ACX" cooler and glued a dead silent 120mm (that is all I had) to the heatsink and mutilated the fan cable so I can run power to this fan from the silly proprietary fan header on the PCB. At 42% with the new fan, can't hear it one bit and as I speak it is idling at 24c. At full load I top out at 61c with 100% speed, which is still near silent, definitely quieter than my 8800 GTS and can't even be compared to stock at 42%.

Am I happy doing this? Hell no. Am I going to get a headache from fan noise? Hell no. Is EVGA going to fix this issue? Perhaps.
