Hello Currently i am using EVGA GTX 480 as main card and another XFX280 for physics, my problem is am being curious about the heat, when i play Mafia 2 "full resolution and quality" the temp of my EVGA card reaches to about 98c and the other card since it has very low load goes up to 58c can you please tell me if that temp is fine ? or am i going to have some BBQ party soon ?

The 400 series runs in the low 90s but I think 98 is kinda high. I imagine it can run alot hotter before any damage is done but it should be low 90s with default auto fan speeds.

Gigabyte case and PS, PS is 1200watt. the case is almost got no space, and noticed that the both cards are very close even the fan of the GTX 480 is exactly against the GTX 280 case. well again is the 93c too hot? is it going to be spoiled soon if i tried to play again -.- ?

whats your fan speed at those temps? 70% fan is usually enough to keep the card at/near mid 80s with reasonable noise.

These cards should run at these temperatures, but it's too much for my taste, but since nvidia says 105c is it's max, i think 93c should be ok.

I am so annoyed .. I cannot beleive that I have just bought "a real wall mounted fan" and fixed it infront of my opened case computer ! idle it was running at 85c with maximum load was on 93c now idle about 74c, will have to check it on maximum. is there a better solution ?

Actually you've troubleshot the problem to inadequate internal cooling. I highly recommend another chassis best suited to expel more hot air and allow more cooling air internally.

Is it easy to replace all the current cooling system with a water cooling? which brand is recommended for chassis, and water cooling.

Yep, this is exactly what I (and a lot of others) am now doing, and I am getting the same temps while playing Mafia 2 (74C). I've never hated video cards before, but I can honestly say that I hate these. I'm just putting up with them because the performance is definitely there, but the noise and heat is ridiculous. Playing any game with VSync disabled is impossible. The heat just takes over my entire office. The only plus with these cards is I won't need to run my heater this winter. I can just play some games and heat up the house with no problem, lol.

playing at office ? sounds weird, well any ways I wont really care about the noise if this heat is normal like 93 and little above if it is ok .. then i better save my money and dont buy the water cooling.

Mine gets up to about 90 Degrees C when im folding and with the fan set to auto it only goes to about 67%. When i put the fan up to 100% it will drop a few degrees. You may need to think about a different case like the other poster said or atleast upgrading or changing the fan orientation in the case. Maybe your not pulling in enough cool air. From what ive read watercooling brings the temps way down compared to the stock temps and that the route i plan on going since i already have a radiator, pump, etc. Some people have also had a small gain by redoing the TIMS on the stock cooler.

Can you post pics of current rig? Might be able to help if we see what we are dealing with in current and see if there is a little help as of now for it.

It's a simple fact that the card is surrounded by an all black, poorly ventilated casing. I finally managed to get my screws out to mount my GELID ICY Vision and my temps went from 95C to around 70C under load. Idles at 45C. Ran it with that cooler for 2 weeks. Then I decided I would get a backplate and put it back into the normal casing (with an extra scythe blowing in the rear of the card) and my card idles at 54C and goes up to, you guess it 90-95C under load. WITH EXTRA COLD AIR BLOWING IN IT?! it's 70F in my apartment. The backplate is a gimmick, more cosmetic than anything. A third party cooler will do the ONE thing none of the other companies can do properly and that's allow the card to breathe. Although I think the Zotac AMP is actually spot on. Only card you don't have to fix after buying it. So - 55C Idle - Stock cooling 90C Load - Stock Cooling 45C Idle Icy Vision 70C Load Icy Vison > http://www.gelidsolutions...1&cid=17&id=52 That's pretty significant to me All with standard paste that comes with Icy vision, I'd bet I would get even better temps with some good stuff. The GTX 480s are only hot because they're aren't cooled correctly. Period.

That seems odd....when you tested the card with the EVGA testing thing, what was the max temp? I have a 480 + 460 for physx and when playing Mafia 2 at max, I never hit higher than 84 or 86c, with the fan hitting maybe 60-65. In the test the max temp after an hour at 1080p was 89/90..but it stayed at 89 most of the time. So, it sounds to me *a noob* that you have an airflow problem and not enough cool air is being circulated and properly removed from the case. My 480 also has the flow bracket and the back plate, so not sure how much that is impacting my temps.
