Finally have everything ready to build my loop (except lots of time).. wondering if I should wait for the EVGA Z590 Dark board though, rather than build and have to pull it down again in a month. If the board was available now I'd buy it immediately and get a cheaper 10-series CPU to use in the interim. With the delays EVGA have been having with everything, even late March release might be pushing it, although I notice ASUS already have some of their Z50 boards available on Newegg etc..

If you are doing hard line I would consider waiting. Soft tube, go for it!

With a little modding you can use the original backplate of the 3080 yes.

What kind of modding is required to do so?

Just received an email from EKWB CS, they suggested my block would be in stock mid March (ordered early Jan)

Still haven't got my gpu waterblock and back plates from EK. I ordered mine on the 7th of Dec. in the afternoon.

That's not good. Last page someone got there's shipped that ordered on the 8th. Wonder if it is the backplate holding things up still. Nickel?

They quoted March 19-26th for me when I asked a couple weeks ago. I ordered on Jan 6th, how about you? Hoping they can beat those times but that's just my pessimistic self being hopeful lol.

Had to check - 1/10, admittedly should've ordered much earlier but didn't know if I was going full WC at the time... On the order status it shows 4/19. Seriously considering buying a different 3090 
 

Are you having issues with your FTW3 3090? According to EK the order status estimated delivery date means nothing. Something broken in their system. Mine says Feb 10th lol.

Somewhat, installed a Hybrid kit and still seeing 80 degree temps when gaming w/ full fans. Would prefer much lower temps and noise 

That is pretty high. Have you tested with your case side panel off? My card is on the stock air cooler now and has a mild OC and I cannot get it above the low to mid 60s even in benchmarking.

Dang. I do feel more fortunate now but do feel bad for you that there is that much variance in silicon. Flashbacks to the old days (2004ish) when I had EVGA GPUs that would game in the mid 90s for temp lol. And that was considered normal at the time.

Its definitely not optimal, card has pushed 14100 on Port Royal so its not awful... I have heard people RMAing for similar issues. Not sure if its worth a try before I get a block

Yes it is a Nickel back plate.

You basically only need to drill up 6 holes from the Backplate (2 on each end of the card + 2 in the center) to fit the bigger M2.5 screws used by EKWB. Its really easy and the holes really only need a small bit of additional drill.
Then all you need is 4 additional M2.5 x 8mm screws as only 2 of those are included with your EK block.

 The EKWB uses nearly all holes on the PCB while original you dont. The screws fit UNDER the backplate so you just leave the 6 holes that get used by the Backplate free and screw together the rest of the screws under the Backplate. The spacing from PCB to Backplate is enough that the screws wont hit.

Hope this helped you and others that want to use the original Backplate.
