I got a GTX 970 a couple years ago and had no problems running it along with a 570, a few weeks ago I decided to swap the 570 for another GTX 970 (both are EVGA cards). after I put in the second one I was getting black screen crashes when using the computer, the weird thing was it would crash even doing basic things (watching youtube). I thought that it might have been the new card, but even going back to the same setup I had before the new card it was still crashing. windows event viewer doesn't show anything relating to the display drivers crashing.

I've tried reinstalling the drivers (have the latest nvidia drivers as of 3/5/2019), I've been doing the clean install option when updating drivers (and only grabbing the main driver and the physic), and updating in both clean and non-clean boot, I've messed around with the precision software to adjust the fan speeds (currently set to auto, but have had them go up to 50%). I'm not quite sure what else I can do.

attached are my specs according to CPU-Z. Help is greatly appreciated.

Would you be able to give some information on the power supply you have as well as what Window's Event Viewer  showed although it was not Driver related? Also, Since you have an unlocked processor, I would like to find out from you if you have anything overclocked or not. Additionally, since CPU-Z doesn't show too much  information on the GPUs, would you be able to provide us with part numbers of the two cards? Sometimes the 970'sd are just simply incompatible in SLI (assuming these are in SLI). Also, with black screen crashes, or any issues relating to display issues, I do like to suggest the NVIDIA Graphics Firmware Update Tool for DisplayPort 1.3 and 1.4 as this sometimes does fix some strange issues that I have seen.

We all look forward to hearing back from you!

It's an Antec HCP platinium 1000w. I've had it about 3 or 4 years now.

event 6008, event log and event 41, Kernal Power.

I have the SLI attached to them but I've disabled it from the Nvidia Control Panel so I can run two displays.

Overclocked: I don't think it is, though it might for the RAM, Asus' graphic BIOS is a bit confusing.

I try to make sure that my computer is off and unplugged when putting in new hardware. I will take a look at the numbers on the cards and get back to you guys as soon as I can.

Thank you

At the surface, after everything you have said, it certainly does appear to me that your aging power supply is failing you.

Does each card test fine by itself?

Sounds like you need to thoroughly test each of them alone with the other completely removed from the system.

I feel a bit silly about this, last week I looked over my case and notice that it does have venting where the PSU sits, I flipped the PSU over and put some 2x4 that were lying around underneath to raise it thursday night, played various games all weekend (Ace Combat 7, Final Fantasy XIV) without my computer crashing due to power failures.

Thank you all for your help!
