Today I finally retired my trusty i5-3570k and Asus P8z77 motherboard with its 1600mhz ddr3 and upgraded to a i7-10700k on an MSI motherboard with 3600mhz ddr4. I am running a 1070ti that was running on the old setup. But it seems like it runs about the same. I ran Superposition 1080p extreme benchmark before and after and only gained 100 points. Does this sound normal

what did you expect, how many points more?
what is your new RIG config? Mobo model?
Definitely, your new rig and cpu will handle better new gen of cards, but do not expect something over limits.
    Congrats!

10700k with a MSI z490 gaming edge wifi, 32gb of 3600mhz gskill ram and a samsung 980 m2 ssd. I didn't expect alot from the upgrade. But i did expect a bit more going from a 9 year old hardware.

Yeah, unfortunately thats about right. From Sandybridge all the way to today is really the same line of cpu's with power refinements and a handful of different slot gen upgrades. Thats why i waited so long to upgrade also cause from year to year it was ridiculous. Thats what happens when only the bean counters run your company.

honestly, my last i7-3820 did my daily tasks with no problem too. Only heavy 3d apps pushed the limits (ex: Autocad/Virtualization).
Run different test and you will see "horse powers under the hood", but to release it - you will need a race track.
At least you are good for next at least 5-10 years and new g.cards pci_gen4
*most regular users will be happy with basic i3/Pentium or raizen3 cpus (office+internet surfing)

Whats funny is i was getting ready to build a brand new Ryzen or Threadripper rig, doing all kinds of research and i won the top prize in one of evgas social media contests, which endeed up being the x299 dark mobo, cpu cooler and psu. So i went back and forth a little, but the board is so good and with evga's warranty/cs i built this instead.

...and the fact that you are only on 1080p isn't helping.
Even if you had a new 3070 , you might only see 10% difference.  Upgrades start to shine at 1440p...

+1 Steve. 1440p would be a good fit for the setup he has now.

Lol, youll thank us when your using it. Hey, we both did 10 years with one build so when you do build you get to play a little. Well, i got a little crazy but i figure the quality will be worth it in the end.

I am sure I will, considering my last build was in 2013 and the only things that were upgraded during that time was the GPU's and the case and power supply.
