I'm thinking the OC BIOS switch on the 3080 Ti's, 3090's just boosts clocks and whatnot without having to use any special programs.  This could be the case.

This got me thinking.. does the OC switch raise potential power limits as well? For instance, a 3080 Ti FTW3 has a 112% max power limit within overclocking software when the switch is set to normal mode.  Does the switch to OC mode grant you a higher limit on top of other things?

Nope, it's just activating a more aggressive fan profile that somehow helps boosts a bit.

The switch turns the fan from zero decibel fan mode to a constant minimum so the card stays cooler, and the bios also provides a higher fan percentage overall so that the fan ramps up sooner throughout the entire temperature range. This would not require any software changes, as the bios would run the bios settings.

The power limit max can be raised using the OC bios, but won’t be in effect until the power limit is increased using a software program to set the settings. For example, the max power limit could be 109% on the normal bios, and 115% on the oc bios, but the base power setting would still be the same at 100%.

Interesting, I'm solely interested in the max power limit adjustment.  I'll have to take a look when I get my 3090 Kingpin.

Thanks!

K|ngp|n has 3 different BIOS options, with one of them being an extreme cooling bios that can remove some protections.  There are a lot of K|ngp|n overclocking guides around, as well as K|ngp|n himself, so make sure you look for those that way you can learn about those differences for the KPE card as well.  I am not well versed in the KP cards, so I will leave that to someone that knows more about it.

As mentioned, the OC setting seems to shut off the 0dB mode. This is kind of unfortunate as I'd rather be able to turn the fans off when the GPU isn't in use to help reduce dust build up in the cooler. The minimum hardware on temperature doesn't really seem to be something you can adjust though either?

At least, I tried to set up a custom profile in X1 and after burner and never could get it to operate the way I wanted. I could get it to work with X1 running, but even when in hardware mode, it would still go back to not turning on the fans until like 60C as soon as you closed X1.

03whitegsr but even when in hardware mode, it would still go back to not turning on the fans until like 60C as soon as you closed X1.

That is what the hardware is designed to do in the normal BIOS mode. If you don't want to use the OC BIOS, and you don't want the fan to stop below 60c, you cannot close Precision X1.
