Long time, no build, so I'm a little behind the times on the state of the art...

Question in the title. Been using this for a few years https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009ISU33E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ...and another model before that one.

It was always said that having a separate sound card took some load off the mobo so it was a good thing to do (as well as being better than the on-board sound anyway).

Question then is this necessary or even advisable to bother using with the 370 classified board?

Bonus question: Will this memory suit me? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EI5Z2T6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 (Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz C15 Desktop Memory Kit - White (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15W))

Don't see it on the "approved" list but I know that's not exhaustive.

Many thanks for any helpful replies.

Hello and welcome to the forums! The Z370 Classified does use Creative sound for audio processing but it may or may not make your sound card redundant. Generally, using a sound card to help with processing load is unnecessary as modern CPU's are fast enough that audio processing is a small percentage of system resources utilized. However, depending on the sound card, it could provide better amplification or other features that the onboard audio is not able to provide. Since audio can be somewhat subjective, my recommendation would be to test it out with and without the sound card to see which works best for you.

In regards to the memory, technically any DDR4 should work in the motherboard. The kit you picked out should be fine and I would not expect to have any issues with it.

Onboard audio has made massive strides in recent years and definitely qualifies as "good enough". As EVGATech_AdamB said, the only main thing that soundcards or external solutions have to provide you is higher amplification for higher impedance headphones. CPU load difference is negligible and hasn't been an issue for years. But by all means, continue using your SoundBlaster Z if you enjoy its features.

Many thanks for the replies. Looks like they both have the same chip anyway, something called the "Sound Core3D," so it's probably a toss up.

    Looking forward to this!
