Does front panel audio have to be connected to nu audio?

existing cable is short and different connector
Should Nu audio rear connector work without front connected?
On board audio is not enabled.
No lights, sound, or click now (and not sure about software installation, it said it was successful but haven't proven it)
 
If no miracle with the above I'll continue with system specs next

    The front panel audio connector is not required. The only required plug is the sata connector for power.

    Only if you want your front panel audio to be routed through the nu audio card
