I'm 571 pounds and for the most part I'm bed ridden all day.  All the mattresses I've seen are made of cheap material and they are built for light people.  I like a medium-firm bed.  A queen size should do it.  Any mattress suggestions?

You will most likely want a firm latex matress. Los of support.

+1  My parents are overweight and they use the FIRM latex mattress. The reason you should try a firm mattress is due to the fact that you will eventually get the right cushion to support your weight. If you choose medium firm there is no support comfort for your body at all.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

I literally just got done shopping around for a new mattress.....
Reviews are done by a skinny person, but he has slept on them all.

With that said, I am getting a mattress from http://www.brooklynbedding.com/
They make a firm version, don't like it within 120 days, they pick it up for free.

I would read this article "best mattress for heavy people".
    http://sleepopolis.com/best-mattress/best-mattress-for-heavy-people/

Trying to find the best bed for the money that won't have issues 3-6 months later is a pain. Just make sure you pay attention to the details about "free 100 nights" to see what you have to do if you don't like the mattress.

US-Mattress wants customers to pay around $135 processing fee, if they don't like the mattress or want to exchange it. I have read a bed in a box mfg that required customers to donate the mattress to local goodwill and send them a copy of the donation slip, before they will issue a refund.

    1) why would you move this to general hardware? it has nothing to do with computer hardware.
    2) you bumped over 2yr old thread to say you moved it to wrong section

Agreed. This is not a PC hardware subject. Moving back to General Discussion due to the complaints received.

so much in bedding has changed in two years.  Good job Steve.   I would also add a few 'my pillows'  and 'dream sheets' made in Geeza.

I can vouch for this as I was the one who reported the dude for the spam. It was one of those "Read my article on best mattress" sort of spam bot.

It's easy to recommend exercise when you don't know someone but that is a recommendation that takes understanding the physical limitations of someone else. It's important to talk to a doctor before recommending exercise or diet changes. Healthy living though is a great way to get a good nights sleep.

There is a great show on Hulu called "My 600 Pound Life", very inspirational.

No matter what your physical state is, or age, you can loss pounds.
Don't buy a bed, get in a gym or club with an indoor pool. Swimming is amazing.

I use an app called Loss it to track my intake, they even have a DNA test you can take to determine what foods to eat and to avoid. They have meal plans for every day too.

As for a mattress, check out a latex mattress.

None of those will support  570lbs you need a very firm coil mattress and given this thread is nearly 3 years old if the person truly was 570lbs there is a chance they are no longer needing a bed, at least on this planet :(

Yeah, at 570 lbs. it's safe to say health recommendations need not come through anyone with a Ph.D.

I'm still alive but now I weigh 558 lbs.  I did get  a new mattress top but I discovered what I really needed was a super sturdy mattress bottom so I bought one off of Amazon.  It is:

Zinus Demetric 14 Inch Elite SmartBase Mattress Foundation for Big and Tall, Platform Bed Frame ,Sturdy , Noise Free , Non Slip, Queen
Just don't ask me to put clothes on.

Ah yes, the mattress base is important. These memory foam mattresses are supposed to last like 20 years, but really it's more like 7 years. I just got a new one off Amazon last year.

I'm 300lb+ and when I had a memory foam mattress I found that, while a dent wasn't all that visible, a soft spot in the middle was. the area in the middle would drop a lot easier than anywhere else. (granted the edges where reinforced by design, but I only slept on around half of the full sized bed, and swapping to the other side did help even the wear.) so yeah, getting a foam mattress least not a very soft one wouldn't be a good idea imo.

That said it seems like it's already decided (which isn't surprising given the age of the topic heh)

on the other, somewhat off topic subject of weight, I wouldn't think it'd be a good idea to target massive weight weight loss haphazardly, though I should take my own advice in dropping my weight too.

Personally I would think non-impact stuff like a pool exercise regimen coupled with slowly decreasing calorie intake would be the best way to go.....to go all out on both ends? That would not be good (IMO) for you..
