I'm not talking about aesthetics.

Previous EVGA coolers you just need to take 4 screws off the main cooler for the GPU silicon and it frees up the main cooler, the VRM/VRAM which most of the time is fine with the standard thermal pad.

New design for 30 series make the the VRM/VRAM plate is connected to main heatsink and you end up removing thermal pads along with it. Not to mention that you have the thermal putty / sponge that's non replaceable on the inductors...

Anyone else dislike the new coolers for this reason? Granted not a lot of people want to replace thermal paste on a new GPU but still :|

Previous designs had a total of 4 screws holding the cooler on, which meant all of the stress was focused directly around the die, which is not optimal.

The mod plate was nice to have, but was never the most feasible option as it could spread the heat, but never had direct connection to the cooler, meaning it couldn’t cool as well. While it was much easier to remove just 4 screws previously, now the entire cooler is attached, and provides a much more rigid structure as well as direct connection for the cooler.

I liked the old design for changing paste, but I like the new design for performance.

The thermal putty is the worst. They 100% need to stop using it and go with thermal pads that can be reused.

Nope...I'm fine with it...it spreads out tension on the board.

I think the cooler (XC3) could be better but is okay. The heatsink contact for both GPU and VRAM is due to heat being trapped in the previous designs from what I hear, but wish it could have a separate heatsink for VRAM though. The fans are quiet enough and the height remains low enough to fit in different setups. The thermal interface, while non-reusable, is good quality that re-applying with other thermal paste or pad didn't improve thermals.

It seems to be doing a good job on mine and I don't really dislike the design.
