I know we need a driver update from Nvidia, and I see that EVGA has released BIOS updates for their X299, Z490, and Z590 motherboards to support it, but is a new VBIOS for the 30 series cards needed as well?

Yes. You need VBIOS, MB BIOS and Driver.

Can the vbios get updated through precision x1?

If a BIOS update is necessary, eVGA will likely pump it out through Precision X1.  But the primary thing that needs to happen is for NVidia to enable it through drivers, and them working with both AMD & Intel to make it compatible & work with both types of processors on the modern chipsets.

It's not going to work on anything older than Z490 on Intel from what I understand currently, and same can be said for it not working on anything older than the previous gen of AMD as well - but that could change.

No. EVGA will post Bios updates, and users need to use the bios update file that EVGA posts.

Precision does not update the bios.

Interesting.  I'll have to do that & see what happens, gotta make sure I have all my BIOS settings memorized first though, don't want to lose the memory tuning I've done to a BIOS update. lol

Oops sorry, the bios update for the gpu doesn't say for the bar it's for the 0db fan issues. Bar bios update was for my asus zenith ii extreme board.

I get so triggered when I see people say they updated their bios with Precision X1. PX1 does NOT and can NOT update your vBios. It updates FIRMWARE for the LEDs on the cooler...that's all it does. It does not update your vBios and it cannot do this.

There are many posts of people saying Precision updated their bios because they see the word Firmware and think that means bios. Spraying isn’t directing it as you, from what I can tell, but there are plenty of people that are quoting things that they don’t understand.

from what i have read it will need an update that wont be possible via precision it needs to be built into the vbios

This will be problematic for everyone using the 1000w bios as they will need to choose between more power and resizable bar

Yes. You need VBIOS, MB BIOS and Driver.

Now that we have the BIOS (at least EVGA and ASUS Mobos, not sure about others) I guess we will just have to wait for Nvidia to release the drivers and EVGA to release the vBIOSes

I like to take pictures of my BIOS settings. It's easier than trying to memorize everything.

Thankfully this is the case. I have no plans on installing Precision X

I was wondering, what I might expect to see when the Nvidia driver arrives and changes in Video Memory utilization.  I have been watching and when I run Borderlands 3, it uses 4 GB.  When I run MSFS 2020 (Flight sim), which I believe is very graphic intensive, it uses 8 GBs out of 24 GBs.  If the Resize Bar is fully operational, should I expect to see these numbers increase or are such things determined solely by the software being run?

I am watching the GPU memory usage in the Task Manager, Performance tab.

Great news! Asus will most likely have a ready bios update for our 3090 Strix OC next month which will implement the resizable BAR feature and address some other issues. Has for my X299 MSI Motherboard. There's already a beta bios release out. NVIDA will play catch up within the next couple of driver revisions. It's all thrilling free features.
