Do I have to upgrade my PSU to ATX 3.0 If I'm only upgrading to an EVGA Z790 MB?

I will be upgrading to the new EVGA Z790 soon. I am not sure if this will require a new ATX 3.0 PSU. I won't be upgrading the GPU, only the motherboard, cpu, ram and storage. My current PSU is a beast - TT Toughpower DPS 1500W 80 Plus Titanium. ATX12V 2.31/ EPS12V 2.92 All aside, I'm no PSU expert, that's why I'm asking?

No, you won't have to upgrader your PSU. Even if you added a RTX 40 series card you could just use the included 16pin adapter and be just fine.

Thanks for the response. Is the big push on ATX 3.0 only because of the new 40 series and future offerings from AMD? It seems to be the focus point on most of the marketing.

Essentially it's only Nvidia at this point that's using the new spec as AMD has stated their 7000 series cards will continue to use dual 8 pin power connectors on their reference designs.

Great! I knew there was a solid reason why I went with this power supply. That about sums it up. Thanks again for all the support!

Unless they do something radical like change the 24pin or 8pin EPS connectors on the motherboard I can't see a reason why you would need to upgrade in the near future. Intel has all but abandoned their 12VO standard they tried to push a few years ago and that did require a different main connector as the 12VO (12 volt only)name implies, it eliminated the 3.3v and 5v from the power supply and instead left it to your motherboard to step down the voltage to those ratings for connected devices like your disk drives or whatever. This was hugely balked at by virtually everyone in the industry and despite 12VO being more efficient it was all but abandoned in the DIY space. That's not to say it's completely gone as OEMs like Dell or HP have essentially been using a from of this standard for years now though not for the same reasons they use a custom design to encourage their buyers to remain in their ecosystem and only buy from them. That however is a discussion for another day as I'm getting pretty far off topic here.

TL:DR = No worries, game on

I did go all out with my PSU. I even replaced my entire cable management with two different colors: black and blue, and all black. I would hate to depart from this PSU. I'm thankful Intel did not change the classic 24pin or 8pin EPS connector layout on Z790 motherboards. You have provided excellent responses that make things a lot easier to work with now. I have the following hardware in hand for my next build.

    Case: EVGA DG-86
    CPU: Intel i9 13900K
    GPU: Asus 3090 Strix OC
MB: ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero
    Storage: X1 Samsung 990 Pro 1TB
    Storage: X2 Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
Display: Samsung Odyssey G9 Neo 49"
LC: Kraken Z73 - 360mm Liquid Cooler with LCD Display
    PSU:  TT Toughpower DPS 1500W 80 Plus Titanium - ATX12V 2.31/ EPS12V 2.92
    RAM: DOMINATOR PLATINUM RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 DRAM 7200MHz C34 Memory Kit - Black
