Just ordered all parts for a build. They should all be arriving tomorrow.
I wanted to build an awesome gaming computer. Sat down tonight and just saw in a few days coffee lake is about to launch. \
I just ordered a new z270 Asus maximus Code motherboard and i7 7700k cpu, and a ton of other parts but not relevant to this post.
Should i return the mother board $256 dollars and Cpu $309 and just buy the new 8700k cpu $360 and z370 Cost? motherboard?
I guess i should to future proof myself as well. Was getting really excited for my build and parts, and putting them together.
Kinda bummed now. Lots more waiting if i decide to do this.......

Ram, cpu cooler, fans, power supply, etc should be just fine not changing anything. What do you guys think?

I would go for the 8700k when it comes out myself.

If you ordered parts and had them showing up I think it's worth keeping them. Of course something better is always going to come out but today the i7 7700K is a great CPU and not just instantly going to be outdated or the minimum system spec for games for a long long time to come. The other thing to consider is you would be able to be building the upgrade Wednesday instead of waiting a month or two.

I also kind of feel that the coffee lake parts are kind of a rush to market response to AMD so I am kind of wanting to wait and see how the true launch goes.

well, just talked to the newegg rep and he issued me a rma for a refund.
I don't mind waiting a little bit to get the new processor and motherboard, that the next processor down the line will probably plug into.
Do you think any better processors will come out for the z270 board since the sockets have already changed for the new coffee lake?
I atleast have the rma started if i decide to go that route.
And im not positive, but i believe all i would have to change in my build is the motherboard and cpu. Everything else is just fans, power and storage.
    Im 50/50 at the moment...

IMO, I would return and wait for the 8700k. Two more cores, overclocks just as well or even better than the 7700k. As this report shows as much as a 30% increase in performance. The only downside I see is the fact you're going to have to wait.

If you don't mind the wait for i7-8700k and Z370 to come out, send the Z270 and i7-7700k back. The i7-7700k will probably stay the top CPU for Z270 motherboards.

I was really bummed at first when i sat down last night, (the night before parts start arriving) and see that my research was sub-par.
I totally missed that the new coffee lake was coming out in just a week.

But i think im more excited that i noticed and can fix the situation and end up with a six core 4.7ghz, then spend the next 5 years in regret that i didn't go for coffee lake.

I am not someone who will have the opportunity to build another computer, or upgrade again for a long long time.

From the leaks i have seen on motherboards, this will actually work out good.
Looks like Asus is going to release the z370  Maximus Hero MB in relation to the coffee lake release.
And it has pretty much the exactly same layout that the z270 Maximus IX Code MB has that i ordered. Minus the MB armour. (which isn't a big deal)
Glad they added wifi to the z370 Hero MB because that was a main feature i was looking for.

And now the dreaded waiting game.
(side note: I do currently have a very adequate gaming setup. So the fact that i have to wait, is not detrimental. I just hope i can get parts and complete the build before destiny 2 drops for pc. )

Well parts started trickling in. Sent the cpu back today, will send the motherboard back when i get it.
I about lost my mind for a minute. Came home for lunch to catch fedex and get my stuff.
Case, Memory, fans, 960 evo, power supply. Motherboard is apparently still on a delivery truck somewhere.
But got home. One package on porch before i got there. Cool, it was memory and fans.
While i was home, fedex pulls up and i get my case. I then ask the driver is that all? I still had a 25lb package to be delivered that says its on a delivery truck.
She responds, i got nothing else for ya. Will probably show up tomorrow. No big deal, go back to work.
After just getting back to work i receive notification that the 25lb package was delivered. So i called my wife that was just getting home.
Asked her to check and make sure it was delivered. It was not! All emails and notifications said it was left on porch.
Called fedex immediatly and opened a case file on the non-delivered delivery. Said they would call me back in a couple hours.
Left work went home. About an hour after being home. A fedex employee in regular clothes pulls up in his personal car and hops out with a scanner.
I say thank god, you got a package for me right? Yes sir he replies, very nice guy by the way. And pulls my package out the back seat of his car and gives it to me.

Now, i am happy i got my package, and apparently calling put someone's butt in gear to get me the $600+ package that was supposedly delivered.
But i can't help but wonder if i did'nt open a case file, if the package would of ever shown up at all....

Unfortunatly i was waiting for the motherboard, so i could send it back. It was not in the 25lb box. :(
And makes me laugh because it says its on the truck and out for delivery today..  Fedex has already been here three times, i don't think they will come back today.
But as long as it doesn't say delivered when it wasn't, ill be o.k.

Side question, i shouldn't have to change my power supply because im going coffee lake would I?  when i do the evga power meter it starts at suggesting a 650 and ends in 750watt. Does this seem adequate for my build? (since i've already started returning cpu and motherboard do i need bigger?)

You don't mention which GPU you're using so it's hard to say which power supply you'll need for certain, but you may be inputting x370 into the power meter, which is an AMD chipset (yes, it's confusing) instead of an Intel chipset. Assuming you're using a single GPU, 650W will be plenty.

Yes one 1080 ti Sc2 hybrid, i7 8700k coffee lake cpu (when it comes out), one m.2 ssd, one 960 evo ssd, one 2.5 1tb hdd.  H115i cpu cooler, 4 addional case fans.  And i bought the evga 750watt g2

Not gonna lie, you should be fine with 750w.  I am running two GTX 1080Ti SC Blacks on an X99 w/ an i7-5820 that is liquid cooled and a case with 7 120mm fans ALL with an EVGA 850w Gold PSU.  And it folds 24/7 granted I'm not over clocking anything either as there is no point for me too.  The G2 you have should be a solid performer with your hardware.  If you are looking to do heavy overclocking then maybe you should look at an 850w PSU but I think you will have headroom for a daily OC with the 750w G2.

Im not sure what my graphics card is pulling (1080ti Sc2 Hybrid), but i usually overclock it more then what evga added to the cards base clock.
I tend to run it at 30% increase in voltage (with pxoc) +80 on core and +190 on memory.
So it runs between 2025-2038mhz on the core. I bought ddr4 3000mhz ram, so that would be overclocked i guess with the xmp profile. (not sure if that takes alot more power)
And im sure i will put a little overclock on the cpu depending on how the H115i handles its temperature.
But i tend not to go to crazy with the cpu's, but im sure i'll be trying to acheive what everyone else deems a normal daily cpu overclock for the 8700k.

So since im already playing the return exchange game with the cpu and motherboard, should i just return the psu as well for an 850watt?
Considering im not going to be able to even build the darn thing in the time it would take to return psu and get new one.
But if it sounds like the 750watt will handle the job well, im more then happy not having to exchange. I just want to get this right.

It's unlikely that your GPU is going to pull more than 300 watts from the wall, even overclocked, unless you physically modify the card. For this reason, a single 750W PSU will be plenty. Even if the GPU pulled 400 watts that still leaves a maximum of 300 for your CPU and other components. Using a Z270 motherboard, it's unlikely that your CPU will pull more than 150 watts.
