How about they don’t allow warranties from non-authorized seller’s first a start

Minimum warranties are legally compelled, this is not possible.

The real solution would be to wait selling cards until you have enough stock to supply demand. Then there would be no scalpers. They could have announced the cards today or next week with a release date in maybe 3-4 weeks. The wait for us customers would be similar but there would be way more supply.

Dont blame the scalpers, blame Nvidia for creating a market for them.

If you REALLY want one, your best bet is Best Buy or Microcenter if you have one near you. On release, my i9 10900K was listed as out of stock on Microcenters website, I went into the store anyway to double check... and find they actually had 5 but their website is wrong.

I know the best buys near me have not received their shipments from what I can tell.  There wasn't any 3080's to be found in town.

Can confirm. Went to a local best buy just now and the employee at the front said they will not be getting any for a few months.

Just went up to microcenter to see if they had any... didn't even need to walk in.

Actually, that beings up a good point...almost all warranties are honored to the Original owner.  If people buy from resellers, the warranty becomes invalid, does it not?  Regardless if it's in new package since you don't have a valid invoice from a partner seller.

This is one of the benefits of EVGA...

Transferable Limited Warranty (Second-Hand Purchasers)

Subject to the terms and conditions of this Limited Warranty, the Transferable Limited Warranty is available to second-hand purchasers with a valid proof of purchase of the transaction between the current owner and the previous owner.* The limited warranty on any Product which was originally shipped from EVGA or an Authorized Reseller as a demo or prize is not transferable to second-hand purchasers and is not covered by the Transferable Limited Warranty.

Although you don't know if it was a demo or a prize, but there are probalby few of those...

Managed to get in the queue via step-up program, on step 1 of 5, waiting for follow up email saying one is reserved for me. At least i don't have to worry about my 90 day step up period, just waiting game now.

Wow...that's the most comprehensive transferrable warranty I've ever seen.  Kudos to EVGA to offer that, but that seems like a double edge sword as well.  It's like an incentive for scalpers to do it because the warranty will remain in-tact regardless.  Too bad they can't institute a week or 2 week blackout date for the transferrable warranty upon release.  That would make would-be buyers second guess their need because if anything goes wrong, it's going to be an overpriced brick.

Ended up getting a Gigabyte card, which ruins the EVGA streak I had going. No 4th metal 'powered by EVGA' sticker for me.

An absolute joke that they wouldn't allow pre orders to existing members or those with registered 10 or 20 series cards against their account.

First post on my 8 year old account, and it's a disappointment post. Nice.

Nvidia mandated no pre-orders.  You can't blame EVGA for that one.

No, bots seemed to have snatched a ton from the Nvidia store. Be nice if a preorder was offered.

Preorders don’t really solve anything - this was a preorder event that failed.

I managed to get an XC3 Ultra from EVGA's website about 1 minute before EVGA announced all cards were sold out on Twitter.

I was able to get an XC3 Ultra into cart on EVGA store, got to payment, and got error screen with ticket reference # lol. Im sure if I email the admin they will get this reference # sorted and my card on the way...(didn’t bother to save it, knew it was pointless).

I had no idea these scripts and buy bots were so prevalent in other markets these days, it’s a shame one cannot simply pre order in a queue like normal things.

With regards to the EVGA store, will stock show up on there during the night? Or Only during work hours?

Man you're lucky. I had one in my cart and when I went to the cart it just gave an instant error every attempt after that which basically said the site was down and they were working to bring it back up.

No amount of loading would work, because it seemed to have logged my IP and just bounced it to that error page until I quit trying about 45 mins later. I tried reloading this page and sometimes it would say I had 8 items in my cart, sometimes 1 (if the page loaded at all).. but clicking on the cart was instant error without even an apparent attempt to load anything.

Nope, was able to put it in the cart and select my shipping address then it would crash, kept doing it for 30 mins and I gave up. On Newegg's site, I was able to get to the checkout and then crashed.

I am certain Nvidia is gonna miraculously have a fresh supply of more expensive 20GB cards to compete against the AMD 6000 series. These were never meant to be widely available I'm convinced. It was just a numbers game to appear to have a competitively priced card.

Yeah I noticed in most of the screen caps going around that most transactions and emails started around 830est. So they were snatched up 30min before they even went “live” to public.

That's super unfortunate. I'm honestly really surprised Nvidia, EVGA, and all other AIB partners don't just implement some sort of back order system. Just let everyone who wants to buy, buy with the understanding that it'll be delayed but that way they have a guaranteed place in line.

IDK that might be unreasonable, but it makes sense to me.

Most definitely not unreasonable in a reasonable world.  Things just aren't reasonable anymore.

Looks like smoke and mirrors, really.  Starting to think the whole $699 was a PR stunt to be honest.  Don't think they really ever intended it to be priced relatively reasonable.  Time will tell if they make good, but I'm not expecting to see a MSRP card for an awful long time.

I tried but gave up after the site failed to load for ten minutes. Knew that by then it was sold out.

I definitely hope Nvidia can make good on this product and really put out the volume that consumers want.

Ultimately, if Nvidia and the AIB partners can adapt production to account for the apparent demand scalpers who purchased anywhere from 15 to upwards of 30 cards stand to either lose a ton of money or, at best, make 0 gains.

Of course, that all assumes that Nvidia actually cares and has the capability to adapt. Time will tell.

Re: Did anyone manage to get a 3080? 2020/09/17 19:30:38 (permalink)
I started hitting F5 at 8:50am EST.  At 9:01 the site locked up.  Sometimes I got the graphic error screen and other times a more technical error message but the next time the page actually refreshed was at 9:34 and all but one card (the $769 card) was OOS.   I tried ordering the one that seemed to be left but it wouldn't go past the checkout.  Tried/refreshed for about 20min then gave up and went back to bed after already spending 3-4 hours trying (and actually getting) my PS5 earlier that night.   Guess I'll wait for the TI version in a few months.  Wasn't happy about the 10GB anyway.

It was absolutely a struggle. There was actually a point at around 850 CST where my payment was processing and I got the graphical error page. Thankfully I kept F5ing for another 10 or so minutes. Finally when I actually got to the "Submit" order screen it loaded for a while but did nothing. I was pretty sure I was SOL at this point but hit "Submit" again and was presented with a message saying I had already purchased one and had thus reached the order limit.

I never received an email confirmation and it wasn't until I reached out to support at 11 am CST that I was able to confirm the order was valid. Email about the order was at roughly 1pm CST when my payment was processed.
