During Bungie's Destiny 2 gameplay reveal live stream, Activision announced a partnership with Blizzard that will make Destiny 2 available digitally on PC exclusively through Blizzard's Battle.net service.

While the PC version will still be available physically in stores, the digital version of the sequel will not be available on any other online retailers. It is the first third-party, non-Blizzard game to be available on the service. Activision and Blizzard are, of course, both subsidiaries under the Activision-Blizzard corporation.

Wish Blizzard would hurry up and add "offline" mode for friends list.

That is supposedly in the works.

On topic, I'm not only excited for the game, but that Blizzard will be handling login/authentication and shop duties. My WoW gold can fund any microtransactions I need/want for Destiny 2. There has been a LOT of confusion and misinformation getting tossed around regarding this announcement. The game will not be hosted on Blizzard servers. They are strictly handling account login and shop duties as mentioned before. Yes that is spelled out in the official press release, but that hasn't stopped people from making false or incorrect claims about how things are being run.

The game for PC will be hosted on Bungie servers, and they use Microsoft cloud servers for their hosting. No word yet if PC will use a different server system than console uses, but they will be servers run by Bungie, not Blizzard. Console uses a mix of P2P and Microsoft cloud servers, players are hosted P2P while loot and damage calculations are handled via the cloud servers. That prevents P2P manipulation of critical gameplay elements, but creates the typical lag that console is known for.

It is unlikely we will see that system for PC, as it's an invitation for hackers. Even if critical functions like loot and damage calculations are still handled server side, it's too easy for PC players to manipulate other data and ruin the game for everyone else. So we are likely, though not confirmed, going to see PC hosted 100% via servers. Even though Blizzard is not in charge of the servers, they can certainly help Bungie with developing a system for that purpose. WoW uses a multi server system for different functions within the game. It's why you have two different pings, Home and World, while playing. Home is the server your character is actually registered to, World is the server you're connected to at that particular moment for whatever content you're doing. And the two are not always the same even if you are just on your own server and not in a raid.

You actually connect between 3 or 4 different servers depending on what you're doing in WoW, so if Bungie is smart they will set up a similar system and avoid the P2P that console relies on.

Blizzard does good games but it feels odd. I wonder if other games are going to go this way that Activision makes. I don't want to make it sound like I don't expect this to be a good game but Blizzard has a long history of making some of the best games on the PC. It makes it easy to recommend anything on the blizzard store to anyone but if they start offering up more games I feel it will hurt them if the games are not AAA hits.

You have to keep in mind this has to do with a partnership blizzard has had with Activision since 2008.

Not any AAA game is going to be released on Bnet.

Why? I really like Blzzard´s policies against cheating. I think Battle.net should be the right place for Destiny.

There is a product registration on the EVGA webpage and there is a Nvidia GeForce Experience software in your PC to make sure you have a legit product to participate in this sort of campaign, but still there are certain retailers from whom the GFX card must be purchased and also the "For residents of the United States or Canada only" message Will it ever change and this kind of things become global?

I really wanted to play Destiny 2 on Steam. Bah!

I think the biggest problem I have with it is I don't need battle.net installed all the time. StarCraft Remastered is the reason I have it installed right now and maybe some Diablo 3 now and then. For a while I didn't even have Battle.net on my system and didn't really miss it after a clean install. Now it's kind of forced to be on the system for Destiny 2 players who otherwise would just be using Steam.
