Hi, I had two 980 Ti KPEs under water with EK Classy Kingpin Blocks and the other night I was playing a game, and after taking break for dinner returned to find no picture on my screen. This had been a random issue in the past couple weeks and thought it had to do with my new monitor and displayport compatibility. The motherboard would sometimes beep at '6D' error code which according to manual referred to invalid console output. Anyhow this time no picture what so ever no matter what I tried via either DVI or HDMI. So I unplugged the primary card out of the slot and was able to get picture out of the second card. Then plugged the primary card back in after and using the second card for display could see a device start failure for the primary card. Was able to flash back to stock firmwares for both cards however but still no luck. Was using a custom bios I made to overclock the cards to 1506 mhz which seemed very stable. My temps were awesome at load temps at like 37 degrees. Anyhow the card still doesn't start or put picture on the screen. So was wondering what the warranty is like as I have owned these cards probably since 2015? Thank you.

Thank you for that link. Seems like one of them is under warranty and the other not because it was an Ebay purchase. Depends on Serial number. If its the ebay one I'll never buy videocards from ebay ever again. Thanks.

Second hand warranty ---> read those Terms, you probably purchased before EVGA Updated Warranty --- Terms ? If there is No warranty left because the card is too old & you have Contacted EVGA CS to Confirm there is no warranty service available: Inspect the card Very closely for damage, after disassembly ---> if no damage is found - then there is the "bake the card" option to re-flow all the solder joints Never bake electronics in anything you will put food in

Just got approved for RMA on a Sunday! On the last day! Incredible! The guy said that they would give me the next best thing though with a 30 day warranty instead since they no longer have any 980 Ti Kingpins. Personally hoping for a 1080 Ti KPE..

I highly doubt they are going to send you a 1080 ti kpe as a replacement.

You know I thought about that it would break my SLI setup. Thats why I'm thinking of going with a 2080 to replace them both. Good point. Thanks FWIW: The tech guy almost didn't give me the RMA because he said I was on my last day. I had to convince him. So I'll take what I can get at this point.

Just to add to this thread I think the motherboard is also affected. I mean the video card is definitely non-functional but even with a working other video card plugged in there the motherboard still beeps an '6D' post code error! Oh man!

Yes unfortunately. Read that sometimes a dead cmos battery can do this to but cant test for this as MSI put a metal shield over the cmos battery! Just great.

Got to drain the loop and take off the waterblocks. Got to do it anyway for one of them. Will do it later. Not looking forward to it as its like dealing with a dying patient. So far I have removed all my mods from this board and flashed every thing to factory but I mean it could be the cpu and the motherboard are also bad. Maybe tonight I will. What a pain.

So I undid my water loop and removed the two 980 Ti's from the system. I still got a 'D6' error code beep but I switched the bios switch over and its almost ok now running off of an old GTS450 card I'm using for testing. No more beeps after three reboots. Only thing is I lost sync with displayport connection but as soon as I plugged in the hdmi port it worked. The monitor was new open box MSI MPG27CQ and all this garbage started around same time I got the monitor. So I was wondering could a bad monitor kill a graphic card?! Thanks

Could have been the DisplayPort Maxwell black screen issue. Think that’s what I had and that it corrupted the gop driver on the card. Just a theory.

Well this all started once I got a new monitor using the displayport connection as opposed to the DVI port I use to use without problems. Also read that modded firmwares do not contain the needed gop nvidia black screen fix so just a theory.. Thanks

Sounds like your first card just died as your second card worked just fine with the monitor.

It could be the maxwell gop DisplayPort bug. May have corrupted my firmware.

I had a 980 Ti KPE die that same way, was disappointing to say the least, also part of a SLI set up.

Well I re-assembled it with the original parts and plugged it back in the rig.. Booom! Card is 100 percent dead! Will be shipping it back. Evga said they'll give me another 980 ti KPE since I said its an Sli rig. Though think the other 980 ti is on its way out as well. Anyhow havent had any weird bios errors since i removed both cards. Fwiw just bought a 2080!

Was installing my 'working' 2nd 980 ti KPE when this fell off of the card from somewhere: Card still seems like its functional. Looks like a resistor. Should I be worried? Thanks
