After having problems with the Oculus Rift sensors reporting the front USB 3.0 connectors as 2.0 I decided to test them.

37 MB/s read speed. If I use a 20 pin connector to usb 3.0 adapter in the same header I get 143 MB/s.

Any idea what could be causing it?

That's strange... I just plugged in my Rift and it shows up as USB 3.0.

What motherboard are you using? And you are plugging in the big 20 pin-double cabled plug into a 20 pin header, right?

Of course, and I tried that same header with another 20 pin to USB 3.0 cable and it works fine.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 (rev. 1.1), it has two Fresco FL1009 USB 3.0 controllers, but it doesn't seem that it is relevant considering that it works with other cables (and with my previous case)

What exactly are you plugging in?

DG-8_Manual.pdf on page 9, second plug, right? Going into the plug (F_USB30, that's 30, not 1, 2 or 3) up by the main 24 pin plug, yes? No adapter, right?

And yes, motherboard matters, as the controller chip info is needed...

Oculus doesn't like some USB 3.0 controllers... oddly enough, they usually say on the Oculus forum to avoid ASMedia... but so far, out of the last two motherboards I've had, both had ASMedia... and the Rift works fine.

There is no other option with this motherboard and case.

    No adapter, right?

I mentioned I used an adapter in a test, it was to rule out hardware problems with that controller. Using the adapter instead of the case conector works.

Both the front and back connectors use the same controller model Fresco FL1009. And I tested an USB 3.0 memory read speeds too.
Back connectors work properly, front connectors work properly if I connect a 20 pin to usb 3.0 adapter, but not if I connect the case connector.

It seems I'll need to RMA it u_u

Did your previous case have a 20 pin cable?

My previous case had a male USB 3.0 connector that I connected to the motherboard with the same 20 pin to female USB 3.0 adapter I used for the current tests.

I'm confused... the old case had a male USB3 plug (9 pin?) in which you used an adapter to convert to a 20 pin plug.

The new case has a 20 pin, in which you used the same adapter (for testing)? Did you have a 20-pin to 9 pin and THEN 9-pin to 20-pin (two adapters) to do this? Or are you using the 9-pin cable from the case?

Can you upload a picture of your connection, from case cable to motherboard?

Just for clarification... the "front" case ports are the ones at the bottom, by the temp controls, not the ones on top? The 9-pin is for the top, which is USB 2.0.

You certainly are confused. What is a male USB3 9 pin plug? it doesn't even exist. This is an USB 3.0 male connector.
Before USB 3.0 was widespread, some motherboards had female USB 3.0 connectors instead of the current 20 pin header, and some cases made in the same period had male USB 3.0 connectors.

EVGA is a brand for computer enthusiasts, can we get out of the way doubts about technical incompetence? I certainly wouldn't expect anyone here to not be able to identify an USB 3.0 connector.
A cable with a 20 pin connector in one end and a usb 3.0 female connector in the other end shouln't be a difficult concept. When I realized the case USB 3.0 connectors didn't work as intended I used such adapter to plug USB 3.0 devices to the motherboard, this is the fourth time I write it. Is your confusion cleared? We are one step away from discussing the philosophical implications of 20 pin motherboard headers and I'm starting to question my sanity.

Anyways, you said yours work fine, so it's not a problem with all the cases and mine is faulty, case closed.

Well, if you're using the cases' 20 pin plug to plug into a 20pin header, how can you use a single 20 pin to USB adapter for the same cable to plug into the same header?

Okay, when you are using the adapter, you are bypassing the case connector? If that's what you're saying, then all is clear.

I had initially thought from your first post you had connected the case directly and then still connected the case via adapter. And that was where this began.

    So, I'll leave it that.
