Really nice build.   You take after my own heart of not going after all the fruity rainbow skittle RGB colors

This is funny.   I see Coretemp works for you.  I just slapped my system together a few days ago, and i didn't bother downloading it again because I saw its last version was April of 2021.  I instantly assumed it wasn't going to read the Alder Lake temps lol.

What do your CPU temps look like under gaming load?

I haven't put my watercooling system together, yet.  I have the system on a small air cooler to at least power it up and load stuff in, but my 12900 gets to 100c on benchmarks and a few short game tests causing the CPU to reach 100C and hitting the automatic throttling causing it to go down to 3600Ghz.    Pretty comical lol.  I have a thick 60mm or so x 280mm radiator I'll be using with 120x38mm PWM 173CFM fans I'll be programming for the whole kit.  Needless to say, I'll be curious how my Frankenstein kit compares with everyone else's in-game temps.

So have settled into a decent 24/7 OC system, really been throwing the AAA Marathon sessions to it.
Absolutely solid with no issues.

I was having issues with random game freezing, CTD's etc but narrowed that down to Memory instability.
12900K (All Core) 5.1P / 4.1E / 4.3 Uncore 1.285v LLC 5 Max Temp R23 68c - Score 29.3K
Dominator 6200 / C36 - Could not stabilize at 6200 regardles of tweaking, so stable at 6000 32-35-35-74 2T
3080Ti FTW3 - +120/+675 for 24/7 Gaming

CP77 marathon sessions several evenings in a row have been perfect.
All settings cranked (except Psycho) 3440*1440p 65-85 FPS

Cheers all!

Fantastic info. Gaming power!

It certainly is.....although even w this kind of horsepower the really busy market scene in CP77 can still drag me down to 62 FPS @ 3440*1440p periodically....!

Hmm...50-60c gaming.

I was like and then I realized you are in Canada lol.  You must have a rather nice ambient temp.  Not like me in south Florida suffering with outside highs in the mid 80s.  Hey at least you are giving me something to compare to so thank you!  I already have all my hardware.  I just need to rinse out my old radiator and get some odds and ends with misc hardware.  I still need to arrange my wiring and such.  Hopefully by next weekend I'll be watercooling this little nuclear reactor.

Yep in Canada but not in the cold part....westcoast on Vancouver Island ....so we are into Spring, but cold vs Florida, similar weather to Seattle.
My ambient temperature is around 19c.....heres an easy way to convert celcius to farenheit...."double and add 30"...
20c = 20x2 + 30 = 70 F

If I do a complete strip down the cable management is one of the biggest parts of the project....fortunately this build wasnt too bad as a swap out mobo with all fans and rads left in place.

Re: Custom Loop Updated w New HW - 12900k Dominator DDR5 - 3080Ti FTW3 2022/04/02 05:38:10 (permalink)
Hmm so things ARE looking promising.

I'll have pics soon in my own thread, but I wanted to chime in with you.  My god there are SOOOO many variables these days with overclocking.  My 3770k had it pretty simple, and my previous rig, an AMD socket 939 Opty, even more so!  I haven't even touched ram.  I enabled XMP, but it would crash Cyberpunk.  So for now it's off with ram running at I have no clue speeds.

I'm still not done tweaking voltages, and I can see vcore makes a substantial difference with core temp.  So for the basics:
EVGA DG-7x case no panels yet
12900kf 5.1P/3.9 (I think since I haven't touched e cores) 1.375v
MSI Pro Z690 DDR4 (I want to wait till DDR5 gets a little more mature)

Cooling:
D5 pump mounted on an external 240mm reservoir
Internally mounted 240mm x 45mm radiator
120x38mm 173cfm fans (PWM controlled by an Aqua OCTO)

Cyberpunk
The CPU can hover around the upper 60c.  It dips sometimes into the 70s but is usually in the mid to upper 60s with the fans at 50%.

R23
With the 12900 stock on air, I was only getting around 21000 in R23.  I was pretty sad reading everyone else's scores of over 27000.  And on air I discovered why: The cpu kept heat throttling itself down to 3.7 Ghz .   Once I got on water, I was getting scores over 26000.  I played a tiny bit here and there and got over 27000. It was hard keeping the CPU at 90c with the fans at 100%, but it was also pushing about 1.42v or more last time I did this test.

Your post gave me great hope in temps once I got the water system installed.  I still have far to go adjusting vcore, ram, fan curves (I have air and water sensors), seeing how the case acts once all the glass is on it, etc.  I can see now the big factor here is the vcore.   But....I might not even spend much more time on it.   I was tired of having my parts laid all over the place waiting for an EVGA mb which is why I bought the MSI for now.  I might tweak a little more then go full head in when the board I really want comes in.  I'll start making my own thread soon.

Re: Custom Loop Updated w New HW - 12900k Dominator DDR5 - 3080Ti FTW3 2022/04/05 01:56:56 (permalink)
^^^^ Hey no problem man...reach out any time..I had lots of help on numerous forums when I set up my first Loop in 2013 ;)

My entire system is based upon "positive pressure case", as in a pretty old Corsair 900D with a 120*4 Rad in the top ...120*3 Rad in the bottom side and and additional 120*2 Rad also in the bottom other side.
All Fans on the Rads are set as "Intakes" as I simply dont believe in running warm air thru a heat exchanger (Radiator)...there are also another 3*120 Fans (no rad) in the front of the Case, also Intakes, so in total 12*120 fans all Intakes with only a single 140mm Fan top / rear for exhaust. This set-up works very well for the best optimal cooling.
Im still running "old school" Fan Controller, where by all fans are set up in "groups" of 4, which all plug directly into a 4 Channel (50w *4) Manual Fan Controller. So I simply move the knobs (sliders) up n down for speeds (no software control). Also works well and can actually install all my Rads / Fans then test them all prior to leak testing (at least this no surprises with a fan not working on first boot). It is old school and likelywhen I eventually ditch the 900D I will also ditch the manual fan controller.

As for OC'ing the 12900.....to get an idea of what kind of voltages your chip requires, you can run IXTU (Intel Extreme Tuning Utility) as a first step. This steered me in the rght direction and gave me an idea of whether I had a decent chip or not. Was able to find out 1.285v (vcore) was fine for 5.1 and 1.325v for 5.2.
Now I could go into BIOS and change some parameters, then test.
In all honesty this 12900K took very little tweaking to settle on 5.1P / 4.1E in BIOS:
- Set voltage to manual and set vcore to 1.285v
- Set LLC to 4
- Set "All Core", including E-Cores
I left all the CPU power saving functions except for those that allow for maximum sustained boost.
For 5.2 exact same as above only vcore set to 1.325v, but as you found, heat becomes an issue with anything getting over 1.3v, so I have settled on 5.1 / 4.1 All core.

As for Memory, the DDR5 is pretty finicky and have spent a fair bit of time with it. I had a Dominator 5600 C36 kit that easily OC'd to 6000 C36 (no effort at all), so I picked up another Dominator kit 6200 C36 that I figured no prblem to reach maybe 6400 or even 6600, but after 2 full days of monkeying, I could not get that kit stable with XMP 6200 C36......chaulk it up as my CPU IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) doesn't play well with RAM over 6000 Mhz, so left it at 6000 BUT lowered the Timings and upped some voltages.

Unlike DDR4 where you primarily tweak only VDIMM and System Agent, DDR5 is a whole new beast.
For DDR5 RAM the key  for tweaking in BIOS are:
VDD
VDDQ
VDD Transmitter
SA
MC (Memory Controller).
Basically followed this guide from ROG
https://rog.asus.com/foru...690-Overclocking-Guide

To setting up my Memory, pretty straight forward, as in enable XMP Profile, then:-
- adjust voltages up a little (following the guide above)
- set Memory speed to 6000
- set Timings as you like, original timings were 36-39-39-76, so simply set them to 34-37-37-74 and test, all went well so tighten up sa little more and have settled on 32-35-35-72.

For testing, the best test really is to simply throw your favorite AAA Titles at it. I have found over the years that you can test the crap out of your system using a multitude of programs such as IBT...Prime..etc, pass them all...then crash in a game, which sucks, especially after hours n hours testing.

My current set-up and OC has been rock solid with many many hours of CP77 and no issues.

I have always stuck to ROG Extreme Boards the last few builds, the last Evga Board I had was a very long time ...Classified X58.
This time around the Extreme Boards were ridiculous expensive and have always wanted to try out an ROG Apex (for OC'ing)

R23 Im consistent 29.3K and temps are great, so Im leaving it at that and focusing on gaming ;)
Rarely hit 60c CPU in CP77 and my Vector Block working well on the 3080Ti as it never exceeds 45c, so all good.
I have this really strange issue whereby my purchased copy of W11 became "not activated" the last time I flashed my BIOS and cannot re-activate it, I think I may have some part of Windows 11 corrupted, so at some point will clean install again and see if I can re-activate.

Anyhow, be sure to post up some pics and dont hesitate to reach out at any time ;) Cheers

Oh I definitely understand the belief in not running hot air through the radiator!   This is why I had my old monstrous Thermaltake case.  I wanted to try to have different chambers in a feeble attempt to not allow the radiator to suck in warm air.

Don't have shame in running an old school fan controller.  Installed in the mid 2000s look what I took out of service just WEEKS ago!

I finally went the software route with an Aquacomputer OCTO since it has a high amp rating for my 38mm 173cfm fans.

Here is a shot from last week, but it's about to get retired since my Classy is on the way

Yeah not exactly an EATX case.   So let's see how long it takes me to wedge the Classy in there.  I have a Dremel and not afraid to use on the case .  I went with cheap Patriot ram for now.  I am very hoping ram faster than 6400 becomes available soon, and ram prices keep dropping every week as manufacturing continues to play catch up.

I played some more with Cyberpunk using the 12900kf at about 50% at 5.1 and 1.375v, and I can average about 60c.  I get tiny rare spikes to 70c, but jumps right back down to high 50c - low 60c.  It is amazing what a difference things make like when water temp goes up a few c with fan filter installed.  Your R23 temps are amazing, and it is something I have to address early because the day will come when games will use 75-100% of the 12900 just like how Cyberpunk was using 100% of my 3770k.

Yeah with build as Alderlake and Z690 is a whole new platform, I went all in with DDR5 and W11...seems this Z690 maximizes performance under both ....if I was sticking to DDR4 and W10 would not have upgraded to Alderlake.....

Yep still like my manual fan controller ;)
When I build I will install all rads and fans....then I can connect same psu I use for leak testing and test all fans prior to next step in build....have my "system" !!
I will be building another system (my older 9900k n MXI-E) in a Lian Li OC XL case....no manual fan controller ;)

Will be eventually scaling back this build....will still be under water but moving into a smaller case. Sometime down the road...I picked up a Lian Li OC Dynamic XL ROG case and installed my old components...9900K...Maximus XI-Extreme etc, nice quality case to work with....will try for 3*360 Rads in it...

Nice build. Surprised you didn't go hard tubing, its just so much more clean. If I were to choose soft, 100% black tubing. Looks super clean. Great scores on your benches too. Your 12900K was definitely a better bin than mine.

Thanks Glor1

Yeah simply cant be bothered with Hard Tube....that level of aesthetics Im not looking for at all..flex is too easy.....I'm more about performance...although the Hard Tubing indeed is "super clean"!!

I can bench no problem with this 12900k P 5.3 E 4.1 reasonable voltages.....5.4 all core takes big leaps though!

Funny I was just looking at ordering some more flex tube and will likely go matte black this time around ;)

I see you too are from the land of the Creepy F***ing Dictator, as Joe Rogan so eloquently put it.

With that said, you likely order from Daz. I ordered 10' of matt black EK soft tubing from Daz. I have yet to have used it. But have been told it is nasty stuff. So maybe look at a different brand. I was going to use it for my last build (i9-10850k/RTX3070 Ultra), but went with Tygon instead.

And I agree with you on using soft tubing VS hard. Hard tubing does look a lot cleaner if executed proper. However, I have also seen some complete abortions with hard tubing. My builds are form and function. Aesthetics are secondary. I do take pride in my builds and make them as pleasing to the eye as I can though. But performance is always paramount.

Great Superposition bench mark score .  "18954", especially at only 46C .  Really great temp. control
It tops my 12900K + Gig Z690 + RTX 3090 FTW that scored "17062" at 71C with the same settings .
Unfortunately I had to use a 2K monitor, so it's not exactly the same test .

To the Moon ... with unbeatable graphics quality !

Thanks man....its a pretty robust Custom Loop w significant rad space. Last night it got down to 11c here outside ....my window adjacent to my tower was left open.
I booted up my system to find the 3080Ti idling at 10c .....would have been a great time to run some benchmarks ;)
