Borys Niespielak, an apparent Poland-based insider, is reported as saying that CD Projekt Red had concerns about base Xbox One and PS4 performance back at GDC 2019, at which point one developer apparently said the game could not ship on those systems in its current form. Apparently the 2013 Xbox One is causing the most issues and with performance still struggling as of January, the game had to be delayed.

At this point, we have seen extensive Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay live at events, although those showcases were based on a PC build and running on high-end hardware at 30 frames per second.
We haven’t seen Cyberpunk 2077 running on a console yet but hopefully by the time we do see it, the game holds up.

Now I understand why the game has been delayed and it makes perfect sense.

2013 Xbox ... who cares ... set display details based on hardware & launch already

Of course if they find a good way to streamline their code for better performance .. that is a win for everyone

i've read this a while ago on Facebook or on twitter.... amidst dozens and dozens of comments of angry gamers regarding the official delay notice!
i frowned my head ... as i though it was a strange comment...

BUT right now the rumor is becoming more and more relevant and surfacing more and more.
in the end i am not surprised for this rumor to be true!

consoles are what they are... "consolation" hence their name!!
i trust in my rig! hell... i was even thinking they would release CyberPunk 2077 for next gen consoles to take advantage of they "new" hardware but.. no....
they have to try to make it run on old consoles....for "everyone to play it" ...  i get it... everyone deserves to play the game and much much muhc more sales and such... SO? 5 more months for it! total 8 months!

the pros about this that a lot of pc owners will actually have time buy the 3000 graphics Gen to play the game in full eye candy at 4K

8 more months to "polish" a game that they say "its ready and playable".... by that order of thoughts the game will be so polished that its shine will blind aliens in the next galaxy

...although those showcases were based on a PC build and running on high-end hardware at 30 frames per second.

Wait...Am I to understand that a high-end PC can only expect to get in the 30 fps range? Even if it was running at 4K (which I doubt), ~30 fps at max settings would be disappointing.

Let me make sure I'm not misunderstood: I'm all for a game being actually technologically innovative and producing actual, tangible benefits in lighting, AI, physics, audio simulation, etc. as Crysis (2007) did, and as PC games regularly did prior to that. But C2077 is of course designed from the ground up around the console market, so we know the core of the game must run on a 2013 XBox CPU, and that further, it's unlikely that CDPR is going to have a drastically different engine/lighting system/etc. for PC.

I'm hoping to be surprised, but I would never expect anything else. I don't hold any grudges re: TW3, but as joseph305 said, I'm going to be mighty disappointed if there ends up being parity between the PC and consoles (and that obviously doesn't count resolution and framerate).
