I’ve been looking forward to a Z270 Stinger since seeing photos of it at CES. I’ve also been hoping to build a rig for the release of Mass Effect Andromeda to play on something better than my GTX 860m. So great, I’ll buy a Z170 Stinger and Step Up to a 270 when it’s released. I contacted customer service and they said if I bought the Z170 directly from EVGA it should come with an updated BIOS to run Kaby Lake. Well, the board came yesterday and no support. EVGA said the bios updates are back ordered and it might take a few weeks. I took the CPU back out and trying to put the slot cover back on, my heart broke as I heard a crunch while tightening the hold-down lever. The best laid plans…
My question now is what’s the best way to proceed with EVGA? I understand they can repair this. Can I keep my place in line for a Step Up and perhaps they will just charge extra for damage?

Your best bet is to give them a call. No one here except maybe a tech browsing the forums will know the answer.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear of this. I would suggest starting a standard RMA on your motherboard to send in for repair assessment. We can then get you a quote on replacing the socket or repairing the pins.

We unfortunately cannot quote damage costs until our RMA department has the item to asses the damage.

I will be contacting you directly with further information.

Yes, I have experienced this oh fudge moment myself. Those CPU covers are tricky and doing it just slightly wrong results in instant damage.

The CPU covers pop off very easy when opening the latch, but they can be difficult to align if you're new to PC building. My friend did the same thing.

May our framerates be high and our temperatures low.
