yah...thats right...i tried installing as well, this thursday, without removing the mobo from the case.....JUST MY BAD-A**-LUCK!!! the last double-studded screw had improper linings (you know the fine thin lines that helps screws to go inside)....i was ALL SWEATY lifting this beast and to find out I couldn't install it because of one bloody SCREW....!! I was so frustrated didn't even bother to tell or shout at anyone...tried to deal with my anger with a submissive way...!! and today out of the blue I found this 4.1GHz to be a success at a first try this morning!! Rex's thread is pretty INFORMATIVE...actually that was my base!!
thx REX wherever you are...for sure a BR to you!!! and thanks for asking expedision!!!

Yeah, I saw his thread.  He isn't quite ready yet.

I was trying to figure out who trs32505 was.  Thanks for clearing that up.

What's with all the numbers?  I guess he wants to go undercover on these forums.

Re:*Club i7 Stability Continuation* 2009/11/15 23:59:14 (permalink)
I've had a long weekend at the drags (NHRA Finals, Pomona, CA), but I wanted to post
my latest contribution to this wunnerful thread, and it's with my 2nd PC build. Yes, you
read that right: This one is Build No.2! Woot Woot!!

I haven't had time to tweak it much yet, just a baseline for fast Folding@Home is all, which
is where I tested LinX tonight, @ 4210Mhz, and things went rather well. I think this i7 920 is
another good one, Batch #3849B202, because the VCore is low, in fact everything is pretty
low as far as adjustments go. VDIMM had to be bumped up to 1.65V in BIOS (1.69V ELEET),
but VCore was a modest 1.25000V, VTT +125mV (1.225V), and my twins PLL and IOH VCore
I pegged @ 1.2500V. So very modest voltage adjustments, and considering this is not a
Classified board (X58 x 3 SLI A1 "Vanilla"), it's going very nicely so far.

I'll have a stouter Mhz later in the month as I get some time to mess around with it more...

Anyway, without further ado, I'll post the data here in case there are any questions:

rexrzer77 Rig #2 - BL-132-X58-SLI x 3 A1 "Vanilla" motherboard, 6GB Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz RAM, BFG GTX 285 OC Video Card, Mega Shadow Cooler (lapped), etc etc...it's a new build/rig for yours truly, a 2nd notch here!

i7 920 CPU Clocked @ 4210Mhz - 1.2500V VCore - 1.65V VDIMM, +125mV VTT
Temps: Idle 34,38,39,40-C; Load 74,78,79,80 - Batch#3849B202 - On AIR Only

Well, I uploaded a JPEG of the screen shot with my LinX run in it TWICE, but nothing
happened. Go figure! You know I'm not a big fan of this new Forum yet, and it seems
it doesn't like me very much either because I can't even upload a file shot off my desktop!

I'l try again later, right now I'm going to go to bed.

I finally made it after screwing with it for the last three days. Would have reached 4.0ghz sooner had I used the bios to set my bclk instead of e-leet.  So running at 20x X 201 Bclk with 1600mhz ram at 8-8-8-24-1T with HT on and Turbo off with Vdroop off. Intel 920 D0 2.66 @4.01ghz batch number: 3844A716 cooled under a Dtek Fuzion V2 and 120.3 rad. Load temps around (72,70,70,65). Here's my screen shot:

During the whole process one of my fans broke down and made a loud racket. Things we put up with for 4ghz. I don't think I'm going to run 24/7 on this profile instead I'm going to set the 160 bclk at 3200 with Turbo on. There are really no games out there that could benefit from that kind of power just yet. I think. Anyhow got to say I could cook an egg under the exhuast heat the rad was pushing out. Ambient was 19.5 degrees and the exhuast was about 25 degrees C.

Thanks.

I think this i7 920 is
another good one, Batch #3849B202, because the VCore is low...

3849B202 and 3843B018 were some of the best batches Microcenter ever had... quite a bagain at their prices... I would and will pay double that price now to ge my hands on some now.  I currently have a WTB listed in the EVGA Marketplace for those and some other good batches.

Hah-Hah!   I guess I lucked out... by overclock333's comments here...thanks to the
Good Lord above, and my ability to get lucky with CPU's, I am running two very nice CPU's today
of the i7 persuasion...this one, and my 2nd i7 CPU score from Batch# 3849B203, which I have been pleased
to work with since July 2009.

I bought both of these from the same source, and it wasn't MicroCenter. Amazon.com Marketplace had an ad
from "Best Buy PC" over the summer (gone now), that said 'Guaranteed i7 D0 CPU's from known good batches'
in the ad copy, so I took a chance and ordered two. When that turned out so well (Batch#3949B018), I bought
2 (two) more from Best Buy PC, and scored the Batch# 3849B202/203 CPU's respectively. I returned one of the
#3849B018 CPU's because it had strange discoloration/etching on the CPU's surface, right in the build of the
transistors and micro-capacitors--ie looked very irregular out of the box...the seller sent me another #3849B202
CPU in return for that one, and I am keeping it for a spare CPU, just in case...

That's the story, and I'm sticking to it! I am glad to have confirmation from overclocker333 about these being
great CPU's, because I thought as much from the low-Voltage performance I am getting from them, but what did
I know? Thanks!

Sorry about your woes, Sim. I am going to stay optimistic, thinking the thermal circuits turned off your processor before it actually lit up like a light bulb.

Well I dont know what else it could be...Ive tested each memory stick, uninstalled reinstalled everything, cleared CMOS, took out the CMOS battery yada yada....thats the only thing I can justify that is wrong with this.

Yes, of course. I've been reading about the debug efforts in the other thread. Last time that happened to me I just replaced everything -- motherboard, processor, and power supply -- but not nearly as expensive as these systems. It is so difficult to diagnose. Good luck, guy.

SimC33, +1 on the bad memory slot and/or you have some funky cpu slot, bent/loose pins. How does the bottom of the cpu look, any marks???.. again, if you need something let me know. I won't be back until tonight...........
