I would certainly love to crunch for Climate Prediction but there is no Crunching@EVGA team yet. Is it possible for one of our Captains to create it?

Thanks in advance.

I just found out the hard way that a WU may take up to ~587hrs to complete.

I think theres been issues with the estimated times recently....  I've been seeing alot of tasks across many projects saying huge lengths when I have ran enough of them and know the average times....  Some primeGrid tasks that take me 28 min say they'll take about 4 hours and others that take about 40 min say it'll take 4 min....  and some of the bigger ones have been coming out 600+ hours but only take between 20 and 30 hours....  My rosetta tasks say they'll take 9 hours and I haven't finished a single one in 9 hours, more like 12-18 hours....  but then some milkyway tasks have shown to be only a few seconds long and usually are correct....

Let it run and see how it works out....  I've only seen one type of task take anywhere near that long, Seventeen or bust for PrimeGrid, they state on the site they will take about 7 days....

The link to create an account is http://climateapps2.oerc...c.uk/cpdnboinc/home.php and for your information, I've decided out of sheer desperation to select all applications because there is hardly any work units to crunch at the moment.

I have decided to give 1 thread of CPU resource to Climate Prediction, since the side effect of crunching for WCG is contributing to Global Warming. Now running 7 threads of WCG and 1 thread of CP. The initial download is about 150MB and it takes quite a while. I think I got a smaller data which needs only 51hr to crunch.

Hi, good to see u active here. Crunching has no QRB and thus less stressful. I prefer the variety of medical research in WCG and the user control for crunching in BOINC. However I wish BOINC has better mechanism to measure productivity/efficiency, like the TPF concept in FAH. For example in FAH I could easily get an idea of how much more productive my rig can be by upgrading DDR3 from 1600 to 2133, OC from 4.0ghz to 4.4ghz, tighten the RAM timings, installing Ubuntu with BFS.... I miss the hobby of improving TPF/Watt.

Diplomacy, welcome to Crunching@EVGA and thanks for joining us to crunch numerous projects especially Climate Prediction. So, we're growing slowly but surely.

Apart from contributing to the cause to find cure for illness, diseases and all kinds of disorders, we need to save the world from natural disasters or at the very least predict/forecast natural disasters so that we can do something to avoid its full devastation.

Welcome and thanks for joining us. I'm so thrilled with your participation and motivated/encouraged to continue with crunching.

Boah, some of these tasks take forever
I wanted to run 1 thread on one of my rigs along wcg, but somehow my profiles got corrupted and am now running 8 of them on a i7 970 @ 3.7 Ghz

Hi!, Barbarossa and welcome to the world of Climate Prediction crunching.

Well, you can change the "Resource share" of Climate Prediction to 12.5 and then, just suspend 7 instances, run the WCG tasks to be followed by UNsuspend those 7 instances immediately again. I can confirm that everything will be fine and nothing could go wrong with the work units. Hope that helps.

I'm running 3 Climate Prediction (and 8 Leiden Classic) instances now while another 6 tasks are in "Ready to start" mode.

Thanks, I had set it to 12,5 and the rest for wcg. It worked out as intended, but then somehoew the wcg profile got changed, and I started  downloading all these CP tasks. For now I´ve set CP to not request new tasks and let them finish. Once I´m down to the last one I´m gonna change it again.
Consider it as my welcome gift

    Yah, I´ve noticed that.
The "UK Met Office Coupled Model Full Resolution Ocean 6.07" are the real big ones. ~370h. I consider those the 6904s of crunching...

BTW is it normal to already get credit, even though you haven´t finished a task?

Credits are awarded in stages (call Trickle). You may refer to Why are the work units so big? in this page: http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/quick_faq.php#How_big_are_the_Work_Units.3F

    Quote

    " What are the implications?

The climateprediction.net (CPDN) Work Units are big but you get more Credit per Work Unit and you still get the Credit frequently because of the use of Trickle Reporting. "

Greetings!, to both RHMash & rjbelans.

Thanks for giving this project a peek. I've encountered a few "Error while computing" tasks before and the good thing is the Claimed credit that has been granted are kept and not deducted from your Total credit eventhough the task terminated abnormally or simply put, crashed midway.

Please allow me to welcome Reysic and Cadred into our growing base.

They came with almost 900,000 credits (combined) worth of CPDN crunching experience (inclusive of GTCola2010's continuous effort) that enable our team to climb up 42 ranks until a Top 262 placing with a Score of 9653 todate.

    Thanks for joining us.

    just a quick heads up:
their upload servers will be going through some downtime due to maintenance on Wednesday (or whatever day it relates to in your time zones). Unfortunately he doesn´t say how long its gonna last

Essential maintenance on our storage infrastructure will require our main uploads servers to go out of service at the following time:
    Wed 30 May 2012; 8:30-10:30 GMT
The following servers will be affected
    • cpdn-uploads2.oerc.ox.ac.uk
    • uploader.oerc.ox.ac.uk
    • cpdn-restarts.oerc.ox.ac.uk
    • climateapps1.oerc.ox.ac.uk
I anticipate that the service will be resumed within the allocated time period, and that downloads deferred during this period will catch up over the next few hours.
If you experience any problems after this scheduled downtime, please let us know by posting on the boards.
