https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/china-closes-foxconn-johnson-johnson-and-samsung-factories-amid-virus-outbreak Some of the recent news from China is the stuff of science fiction, with the Central Government there locking down entire cities to contain the deadly Coronavirus outbreak there. When cities with 10+ million populations are under lock-down, it's only natural for factories to run out of workforce. According to a ZeroHedge report, the government has reportedly shut down factories owned or operated by big names in the technology and FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) industries. Among these are the ubiquitous Foxconn, which has manufacturing contracts with the biggest silicon valley tech firms for contract-manufacturing their hard-product - including the Apple iPhone; and Samsung Electronics, which makes consumer electronics, home appliances, and certain semiconductor products in China. A third big name in the report is the FMCG and pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. The closure of factories could wreak tech stocks in the coming trading sessions, not to mention possible impact on prices of electronics. As of now, the closure is stipulated for the next 1-2 weeks. 1-2 weeks is not a long time in my opinion but this could rack up several million dollars in losses.

They need to shut down Grupo Modelo, or else Corona will continue to spread.

I wonder if the Foxconn and Samsung factory will have to be cleaned by government health officials who contract out the work who might need to remove samples from the factory and take pictures of how it was cleaned... Not to say the outbreak is not a major event but I kind of see it as also having the chance for theft of designs.

If they've used an excuse before, they will do it again. The uncharted ways of doing business overseas. In other news, SSD prices are creeping up.

Glad I got my new all ssd cluster order in before the news of this dropped. Dell is probably licking their lips at the amount that can overcharge for ssds in the near future cluster was expensive enough as it is.

China had to take drastic steps to contain the outbreak, to prevent the unthinkable

Why do these viruses all seem to originate from China? SARS, MERS, multiple swine flus and avian flus etc. etc., now this thing. What exactly are they doing over there? Sounds like they're playing around with biological warfare experiments with really poor controls.

There's been conspiracy theory tier news reports that say there's a bio-weapons lab 20 miles from the supposed initial infections.

Some think its for population control while others believe this is the result of eating everything except themselves, afaik.

It hit close to home today. Our local ABC affiliate ran a story about a gentleman who is stranded in China, due to the fact that their government has everything on lockdown. Also...two reported cases in Chicago, where a man got infected by his wife, who just returned from China. First person to person transmission...I hope they can contain this soon... https://www.cnn.com/2020/...-person-cdc/index.html
