I'm planning a new gaming build sometime over the winter, possibly early spring. In the mean-time, I'd like to replace my aging GTX 260 SLI setup with something with a little more oommph, that runs maybe just a tad cooler and uses a little less power and has more modern connections like HDMI and DisplayPort. I'd like to stick around $100. I'm seeing quite a few 2GB GTX 950 cards available in the $100 range and am curious how one of these may compare to my old SLI setup. Does anyone have any direct experience with a similar change? How should a 2GB GTX 950 compare to 2 896MB GTX 260s in SLI?

I'm still rocking an EVGA P55 SLI 132-LF-E655-KR mobo with an Intel Core i5-750 processor. I was told that JacobF may be able to help me determine if an EVGA 950 card would work with my system. More than likely, I'd only be using it as a main computer for about six more months at the most, before retiring it to act as a Blue Iris CCTV server for our home security system.

I was going to post this in the P55 motherboard forum but, since it looks like it gets very few visitors, I'm posting this here.

Thanks.

To answer your question, a GTX 950 assuming no bottlenecking wouldn't absolutely slay 2 GTX 260's, but would provide with much smoother gameplay at higher resolutions.... That said, any reason why you'd purchase an older GTX 950 and not a newer Pascal GTX 1050 that goes for the same price? I wouldn't go much higher than either of those tho, for a P55 system. (Wow btw, blast from the past there) I'd expect bottlenecking to occur quite frequently.

To answer your question, no, there's no reason I wouldn't look, considering they're selling for about the same money. I just hadn't looked all that closely at the pricing of the 1050s. I'm not necessarily looking for all that big an improvement either. Actually, the more important features are the same to slightly improved performance at lower temps and much lower power consumption, as well as having access to something other than DVI-only outputs.

I guess I should've mentioned as well that, at this point, my bigger question is, would either the 950 or the 1050 work with my old P55 mobo. It seems like I'd read somewhere that many older boards/BIOSes will not work with anything from the 900 series on; something about requiring UEFI, which my board doesn't have. So, I guess that's my bigger question; will either of these work with my mobo? My mobo is a EVGA P55 SLI 132-LF-E655-KR running the latest A74 BIOS.

    Thanks.

I forgot all about that. Might be worth contacting EVGA to see if there is a "Legacy" bios or switch for one of their cards that would allow one to work.

Not sure if this helps but, my X58 systems do not have UEFI, they have GTX980Ti running great in them.
