Have any of you ever experimented with high power uv lighting in a case? I'm thinking of something along the lines of this: http://www.mouser.com/Pro...Dock01w%2fD1fqzL72I%3d on 3.3v.  I could probably split the beam with some fibers or maybe just a prism of sorts if necessary.

In my last build I was REALLY disappointed with UV cold cathodes.  They didn't put out enough light (I've got four) and they get hot enough to melt the glue that holds the cathode inside it's casing such that if you tug on the leads it will come right out of the casing!

This LED is normally used in dental equipment for teeth whitening, so as a side benefit my pc would have really white teeth!

cant help you with the heat, but try putting some kind of reflective material behind your cold cathodes, to reflect that light back toward your setup.  Some cc's don't come with that.  Bent sheet metal or some kind of foil should do the trick. Just make sure that the reflectors don't contact the ccs because that would just trap more heat.

its the same principle as flood lights/flash lights and that reflective coating behind the bulb.

    hope it helps
