There is an issue with a certificate that has to be updated.

You have to replace a file in c:\program files\BOINC with this file
It will replace a file that is already in there.
You will have to confirm that you really do want to replace the file.
Then you can add projects to BOINC again This is a temp work around for now until they fix it

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=14422

Recently, the Windows BOINC client stopped being able to communicate with some projects and with Science United. This is because of an expired entry in a file called the "certificate authority bundle".

To fix this problem, download a new version of the file and put it in the

C:/Program Files/BOINC

directory.

This is a temporary fix. We hope to release a new version of the client that won't have this problem in the future.

I still use 7.14, the new one can cause issues with the amount of tasks received in PG.
Or some other projects when you don't want that many.
I'll have to go look up the exact reason I can't remember exactly what it was.
But I am sticking with the older one for now.

    Thanks,
So far I am holding good on PG with one Task Running and none in the Que.
I do set MT in the Config file as well as on PG preferences:
    Resource share 0
    (A) Max # of simultaneous PrimeGrid tasks (Based on number I am running per task)*
    (B) Multi-threading: Max # of threads for each task tasks (Based on number I am running per task)*
    * 2 CPU 14 Cores each so I set (A) at 2 and (B) at 14.
With this run I am settings High Cores so 1 Tasks MT 12 leaving 2 Cores free to run GPU Tasks like with Collatz Conjecture
So far so good I am at 100% Completed and validated (1st) so for.

I think I remember now, but I will still look it up.
It had to do with downloading a new task 2 min before the old one ends.
Not a big deal with LLR2 but it is with GFN. Even with resource share set to 0
I think that was it, and it did not happen with every box.

So, how did you get around the expired SSL file issue ?

BOINC client 7.16.20 solves the certificate problem for Windows .... update to a new version (7.16.20) of the BOINC client. The previous version stopped working recently because of an expired SSL file that prevented it from communicating with several BOINC projects, with the BOINC server, and with Science United.

The new version of BOINC (7.16.20) has a new ca-bundle.crt file the same one that we downloaded and put in the BOINC Program Folder.

Yes I guess it does, but I still run 7.14 so I had to do this:
To fix this problem, download a new version of the file and put it in the C:/Program Files/BOINC  directory.

There was a thread at PG about the new 7.16 client and downloading files too soon or something.
It had to do with 7.16 BOINC changes something and it overrides your settings as it sees fit.
It was not its own thread at PG and was in one of the challenge threads I spent a couple hours trying to find it and gave up for now.
But I am almost sure it was tasks DL before the old one was done and would sit there waiting.
I rolled all mine back to 7.14 because of it.
But anyone can run 7.16 if the want to.

So we should be ok with Version 7.16.20?

If you want to. Just watch how soon a new task DL while running GFN17 mega. (Short tasks)
Since it is not LLR2 and you still have to get it returned 1st to be finder.
If it DLs a tasks before it sends back the finished one you may need to roll back.
Setting it to 0% share and only 1 task at PG pref page should work.
But ver 7.16 BOINC can over ride those settings and send the next task before its finished.
Then it sits waiting to start.

I'll look again later for that thread.

Well Bill I started a thread over at PG client 7.14 vs 7.16 I want to get to the bottom of this.
I want to make sure any info posted is correct. I can not find it at PG and their search is not producing results.
I know I would not roll back for nothing wasting my time.

Its not the end of the world, just if the 7.16 client is acting up in any way, can't find a fix, roll back and see if that fixes it.

Will see what they have to say over there.
Heck I may of seen it somewhere else, sucks getting old and contracting CRS.

Yes, CRS can be a bad dog for sure with age.
Yep your are getting Old "BOIBC"
I was out of the loop for so long I have to relearn all the tricks and the how to setup things within each Project.
I forgot about QuChemPedIA@home taking control of your network to run as well as you have to babysit this Project.
I hope to be back in the flow of things by years end.
