I wonder if some of the apps in the startup manager in Windows 10 can be deleted rather than unchecked? I know some of the apps will not startup when booting into Windows. If you do not use the app but for only a couple of tasks now and than. I wonder if some of them in the list can be deleted? While it is true, some apps need to be checked like NZXT CAM, Windows security notification. What if any could be deleted and just manually ran when you actually need to use the app in Windows? Beside having having it always running in the background using up hardware resources. I'm trying to find ways to optimize and tweak Windows 10

I would just uncheck them.  When they are checked or unchecked all it should do is affect what the xxx.MSC controls do with the files.  Each xxx.msc can be started during start up or just when they are manually needed so forth.  I would not  remove them as the uncheck works just fine.

They can be deleted, but only through the windows registry.

Problem with trying to optimize Windows from my perspective is a never ending task.  Whenever new patches get pushed out, settings reset and change, new options get added, old options get deleted, more files appear (obvious one), and more applications and services are found running in the background.

One example, why does Calculator need to be running as a suspended application in the background on every boot?  Is it that hard to load the calculator each time - it's not like its that resource intensive of an application to run.

MonkeyBannana  I have looked everywhere on my Windows 10 Pro 64 bit and do not find Calculator in services or running in background.  I do see it when I manually start it and when I kill it, it is no longer present in memory or CPU tasks

Something you could check is:  Go to the Windows settings page > Privacy > Background Apps > Verify you're not allowing different apps to run in the background.

I haven't used CCleaner in quite awhile, but when I did you could delete items in the Start Menu from the program.  You would find the "Start Up" (forgot what's it's called) page where you see the list of all Apps/Programs in the Windows start menu.  Here you could enable, disable, or delete the entries.  They have a free & a pro version.

I mean, I'm not sure what you mean with deleting them?
Once they're unchecked they shouldn't start when you turn your PC on, therefore they shouldn't impact performance.
If you don't want them at all you can just remove the program.
And what do you mean with "some apps need to be checked"? Like it doesn't allow you to uncheck them? I can disable those apps using the built-in startup tab in the task manager.

OMG you have a ton of bloatware starting up.  Looks like you're just choosing 'yes to all' on every software installation......never do that!

You can delete all that stuff in the startup via the registry, but disabling it in the startup mgr is a LOT easier and achieves the same result

Also, you can go to computer management-Services and disable stuff there as well

In regedit search for 'runonce', when it finds it, the folder right above it should be 'run'. Check in there to remove stuff as well.

Edit: The reason I search for 'runonce' vs. 'run' is: If I searched for 'run' then it would take forever to go thru the search lol

You can also use Sysinternals Autoruns. You can disable anything but proceed steb by step. Some apps can depend on other apps. Some apps are also needed by the operating system itself.

Best practise is don't install what you don't need.

No, you cannot remove them from the list of startups. You can simply disable and enable, but you can't outright delete them from the list.

Just use Ccleaner, check the bootup apps and disable as required.

Unchecking is effective enough but CCleaner will do the job

My suggestions as many is to simply disable them through either task manager or CCleaner.
You CAN remove them usually through the registry editor, but this is often a dangerous task for inexperienced users and may cause a lot more harm than expected. If you do wish to go down this route I would suggest looking up tutorials on YouTube on how to remove each individual program you wish.
P.S. Even after uninstalling an app it may still show up start-up tab as its original name or simply "program".
