I have an EVGA 3080 FTW3 non LHR, and always planned on adding a second one and connecting it to my first card. If I understand right the 3080 ti won't connect to the 3080, but can I connect a 3080 LHR to my non-LHR card, or are they incompatable?

You can't do SLI with the 3080, you need two 3090s to do that.

EVGA tried to move all non LHR card people in the queue to LHR prior to the queue changes. What they didn't say definitively was there with not going to be any more NON LHR cards. They used the word "might" to strand people that moved back to the NON LHR cards and then moved the goal posts again back locking people Queues when they changed the Queue system. Yes I am pissed as I wanted a 3090 kingpin hybrid and that is further down my Queue and I can't change anything. While I did manage to pick up a 3080 TI I didn't get the card I was after.

As said above there is no 3080 that can SLI period so your question is irrelevant.

Nvidia decides what they send out.  EVGA could not definitively say that Nvidia would never send them a non-LHR chip and in fact still could not say that, because they don't control that.
They did VERY STRONGLY tell everyone that choosing non-LHR was a risk.  I don't know how anyone could have read that and come away with the impression that sticking to the KRs was going to work out.
They also told people a week ahead about the queue changes and definitively stated what would happen if you didn't reduce your queue entries.

That's interesting, I searched on this before and somehow never ran into them removing SLI from the 3000 series. I wasn't interested in the 3090 because it was a 20% improvement for a big jump in price. The 3080 ti is almost as good if I understand right.

But I just ran into an article that mentioning moving it into the software rather than through the hardware. That makes sense to me... to a point. I use DAZ studio, so I don't know if they have that set up or not.

I'm very happy with my move from a 1080, but I still run out of memory if I have too much in a scene.

Sadly you are in the camp that the 3090 would be ideal for since you need the extra memory for specific software. :(

It seems like even for the 3090 they said they are not adding new SLI profiles so it really depends on SLI support that already exists in a title and an update to a new version of software could possibly break that support.

For Daz and other 3D rendering you should have bought a 3090 instead of a pair of 3080s.  Also with 3D Rendering, you can't always pool the memory of cards with SLI/NVLink.  So adding another 3080 may not help much if you do higher resolution renders.  Daz will drop back to CPU rendering if it runs out of VRAM.

I just have the one 3080, not two. A 3090 really wasn't in my budget at the time.

And I have had DAZ run out of VRAM, but I have the CPU fallback turned off, so it just renders black if that happens. But there are work arounds for lack of VRAM. Though it wold be nice not having to resort to those tricks as much.

Camera View Optimizer worked well for me when I was running Daz on an 8 GB 2080 Super.  It reduced render time and VRAM usage.

There are a few games that support 3090 Multi GPU.

One of the other issues is that DX12 natively supports multi GPU without an NVLink/SLI bridge, but nobody enables it.

As others have said the only way you are going to SLI is with a 3090, a 3080 or 3080 TI on down no longer have SLI. If you do 3dwork should had gone with the 3090 or a RTX Titan.
