Can I get clarification on Precision X1 auto fan control?

Previously in Precision XOC:
One could enable auto fan control, and with the curve set (default) the fans would spin appropriately while Precision XOC was loaded and running. Once Precision XOC was closed, the fans would revert to the card's default setting - 0 rpm at idle.

Now, with Precision X1:
I enable the automatic fan control - with default curve. Fans spin up appropriately and run per the curve.
Now - I close Precision X1: The fans are still spinning as they were with it open - at least at idle desktop. However testing in a game, it would not appear the curve is applied - which I reckon it shouldn't be with PX1 closed.

I then open Precision X1 again, and yes all three fans are spinning as they were originally after selecting the auto fan control.

So my question - why is this? By design? It kind of gives a false impression that a fan curve is still running even though the program is closed. As I mentioned previously, in PXOC, when closing the program the fans would revert back to card's default setting - off at idle.
Just very curious about this and would like to understand why it is this way?

Thanks for any feedback,

Did you perhaps have the fans on manual some of the times you have seen this? If you set them to a manual % (and hit apply) and close PXOC they will keep running at that % until reboot or PXOC starts up and you select something else, either a different manual % or auto. It is pretty easy to test this if you set the fans to 100% as you can hear them. I occasionally use this to set the fans to 100% and stay there without the cpu usage of PXOC. Good luck. :)

No, I had them on the default fan curve, not just a straight manual setting.
Previously ( PXOC) the curve was only enabled while the program was running. If closed the fans went back to 0.
Now , with PX1 with the fan curve enabled and closing program,  the fans stay running at the idle setting as if program was still open. But curve does not apply when running a game pf course with PX1 closed.

I was mainly curious why that was and how it would treat the fan speed running a game with it closed like that.

Ok just installed  and did a quick check on 3.3.4.

Went in and set power and temp target to max, and put a check in "automatic fan control".
    Left the curve at default.

So far so good. I notice all three fans are now running app the same rpm at idle - previously my fan 1 was about 300 rpm slower than the other two. Now they are app same at idle - good.
Added my settings above to profile 0 slot and clicked load then save.
    So far so good.
Hit default, and card went back to default 0 fan speed on all three fans and power and temp target back to default.
Loaded profile 0 again, and back where it should be again.

Will see tomorrow when I can get some gaming time in with it.
    Looking promising so far.

Edit: Still having trouble with getting profile saved proper.
The check by enable automatic fan control keeps getting unchecked, it worked couple of times then I loaded profile again and had 0 fan speeds.

Part of getting the profile saved properly may be stemming from my confusion at times on when to hit apply, and when to hit save.

Nope - just checked again. I loaded the profile successfully twice after hitting default each time, and my automatic fan control was applied properly. Just tried a third time after a very short break, and no fans spinning when loading the profile and again auto fan control is unchecked.

And just now why typing this, PX1 somehow closed ( not sure I did it), so I opened it again and voila - my auto fan control setting is running again LOL.

Who the heck knows, I will test more tomorrow when I can get some gaming time in.
This may be all on my end, not sure.

Edit: Best I can tell, the profile loads the power and temp target set in it just fine.
It is having the "automatic fan control" enabled that is iffy in the profile, sometimes loading the profile has it still checked and it runs, sometimes it doesn't and fans not spinning. ( testing setting the card to default, then closing PX1, then opening and loading the profile).

I will stop wait and see what others report that use the auto fan enabled feature, either with default fan curve or custom one.
To see if it just me or what.
For whatever reason I can't seem to make the auto fan control feature stick consistently in a profile.

0.3.4 Beta is what I am testing.
Automatic Fan Controller setting is not staying persistent all the time for a Profile.

When one saves a profile with "auto fan controller" enabled, with either the default curve or a custom curve, that same "auto fan curve enable" setting in the profile, should be persistent and when one loads the profile it should be there and running.
That is not always the case even in 0.3.4 based on my limited testing this afternoon. Sometimes it does, often times it does not.

I would love some others check me on this in 0.3.4. Enable auto fan control and save a profile.
Then click default to revert to default PX1 setting, fans wind down to zero.
Then click on the saved profile, and click load. Do this a few times. See if it always loads your auto fan control setting you saved as it should.

I've had similar weirdness with the fan profile in previous betas, I think what fixed it for me was to start explicitly hitting save when the fan profile is showing. It seemed like if I set the fan profile, then clicked somewhere else in X1, it wouldn't save, but if I set everything else, did the fan profile last then hit save it worked.

    +1

Using the save button after Each change, to update the current active profile

I'm running 0.2.9.0 - saving was a lot of work (played with the setting till it finally worked)

Yeah just updated to 0.3.4 and fan profile saving is working for me at least using the above procedure.

As I mentioned, please check it afterwards a few times, go back to default. Then try to load the same profile. Or close Precision after going back to default, then open and then load profile.
Is your automatic fan control setting still there each time?

I just checked mine again, it is not always there. It is hit or miss if my automatic fan control enabled setting sticks and stays with the profile.

Ok I think I see what you are talking about. If I go to default and then close X1 and re-open I do lose the fan settings but only on the current profile. I think it is auto-saving that part when you close X1 thus you get default.

    Bingo!
An automatic fan setting with a curve whether the built in default curve or custom curve, should stay persistent with the profile it is saved to.
Power and Temp Target does, auto fan setting enabled with curve does not. At least not each time. It is hit or miss each time closing and opening PX1 whether it does nor not.

I have Profile Number 0 saved - Power and Temp Target full right, automatic fan control enabled and checked with a set curve.
Now any time I select Profile 0, and hit the Load button, it should load up exactly that. Not just the power and temp target and no fan curve enabled.
And if you have by chance modified the curve, to say be more aggressive, clicking on those little dots and moving the lines around - well you lose that eventually when it goes back to no fan curve enabled. Then it is time to start all over.
