Anyone have any knowledge of using composite to USB adapter cables with recent HDTVs?
I would like to know is it possible to hook my Zenith VRA424 4-head hi-fi VCR to my 2014 model year Samsung UN32J5500AF HDTV using a composite yellow red white RCAs to USB adapter cable and get a workable picture and sound that I'm use to?
Edit: I would use the one set of RCA component/composite combo input but using it for a PS2 with component.

I understand that some will scoff at this but I am not one that gives up on old tech and would like to still use it.

I'm 99% certain the USB port on that TV is not capable of video. It's intended for sticking a USB stick with media on it to play. Most TV's don't do video over USB. Composite to USB is usually intended to go to computers or CCTV systems. You'll probably need something like a converter box for composite to HDMI: https://www.amazon.com/s/...&tag=duckduckgo-20

I agree it’s unlikley to work. If the USB was to play video it would probably be looking for a data file like MPEG or AVI that is processed by the TV instead of video.

Maybe this would work ?  Not a brand recommendation - Just an example   HDMI to RCA Cable

No televisions that I know of allow a direct video feed via a USB port. Best bet would be HDMI to Composite, as the others have stated. If the VCR has any other type of output like S-Video or Component, I would recommend going with an adapter from those to HDMI instead. Also, if the TV has a Component input, many of those will accept the composite video cable on the green port. You may have to change the TV input settings to use composite/av instead of component.

Are you playing from the VCR to the TV ?  or recording ?

Coaxial cable may be the simplest way to at least test for the potential digital to analog issue

    Yes strictly for playing tapes.

I thank you all and you all have cemented my fear that it wouldn't be an option and unforchantly have all three HDMIs are in use and wouldn't want to use HDMI switch either.

I guess I will need to move the VCR to the CRT TV retro gaming setup if want to use it still but that's got a lot going on too.

Edit: Or maybe try the coaxial input but I don't know if it will accept an analog signal?

Those generally don't work well. Composite cannot passively go through HDMI, it requires active conversion. By purchasing a cable like this you're forcing the device to handle conversion which usually ends with poor quality. The most reliable option is a small converter box.

This is the unfortunate consequence of manufacturers pushing for the thinnest devices possible. My 1080 HDTV from 2010 has 4 HDMI, 2 component, a composite and several audio connectors. It's really pathetic how little inputs we have nowadays.

More like manufacturers are pushing consumers to get rid of their old stuff and purchases new things.

No kidding! I can't believe in 2018 that we have the TOP OF THE LINE 4K TVs with only 3 or 4 HDMI inputs! What are manufacturers thinking? We only have more and more devices to connect, yet they're giving us less and less connections. It's ridiculous. Six HDMI inputs should be a bare minimum.

I am warming up to the idea of using this Diamond VC500 USB 2.0 One Touch VHS to DVD Video Capture Device with Easy to use Software, Convert , Edit and Save to Digital Files or something like it but could use this adapter to just feed my PC with the VCR signal to just watch on the HDTV? I'm not to crazy about spending time to move the tapes into digital (maybe at some point) format because it's apart of the "hey I'm still using my VCR .. cool" to use it.

Edit: My old Samsung LN26A450C1D had 3x HDMI 2x Component 1x Composite or 1x S-Video not at the same time 1x VGA inputs plus 1x RCA Line Audio output. I was using all but the S-Video and VGA stopped while back. But the power supply couldn't take living anymore.

Some years back I bought just a capture device like in your link above.  Used it to transfer all my VHS tapes to my computer.  Then used my Nero software to convert and burn to DVD.  This way I can watch on the PC or TV.  Worked out good enough for my needs and was under $10.00.
